  1. I managed to remove the gator from around the Fuel Filler cap and started cleaning some of the dirt from around it only to find this spade clip on the end of a short length of wire. Can anyone tell me whats its for? It doesn't look like it's been used in a while as its very badly corroded. Thanks in advance. Mark
  2. After watching Top Gear last night I walked outside of work today only to find a silver porsche panamera turbo parked in the yard. Had to take a little pic if the front wheel, disc and caliper Tyres are 255 x 35 or 40 can't remember. On 20 inch rims. :norty: It truly is massive, and looks quite tasty inside. A comment on the UR quat. An old friend of mine brought one some years ago, and after blowing the original engine into a million pieces he (with some hinderance from me) fitting a race spec engine, all nicely ported, lightened fly etc etc. I was lucky enough to get to have a go in it and was impressed with the handling. To the point where I was looking at buying one before I got hooked firmly by the C. :notworthy: I've also had the opotunity to drive an E Type, and thats something you never forget. 4 speed manual box and an instructor (in his 60's) yelling like a teenager for me to keep my foot in. It was one of the best driving experiances I've ever had.
  3. Seen tonight @5.05 pm, green C, not sure what model. M715 LMH (I think) In Colwick turning off Private Road No. 1 and onto Colwick Loop road in Nottingham.
  4. Took the car up to Dave16v this morning along with my aerial cable. The back half was easy enough, getting the head unit out proved to be a bit tricky but not half as tricky as finding the route the aerial cable took and trying to remove it. In the end Dave cut the cable as close to the bulk head as possible and pulling the remaining wire out. Anyway, I now have a working radio  so thats one job off the list :D
  5. Pressing or setting the springs will make them shorter, keep the number of coils but it takes the spring past it's elastic limit and permanently alters the load and rate parameters. This weakens each individual spring, also you couldn't be guaranteed that each spring would take the same set, the springs could be too different.
  6. Just come across this thread and thought that I'd put my views forward. My first job was a 7 year apprentice at a firm making Springs, although I've moved away from this business I still remember more than I've forgotten. :D I was asked on many occations if I could make lowering springs or modify friends existing setup. I never did it as each car has different weights and therefore different loads and rates throughout the springs length. Although cutting the springs may sound an easy fix, I personally wouldn't recommend it as you'd be changing the dimestions and characteristics or the spring. Creating extra stress's and possibly taking the spring out of its working range. I'd recommend lowing springs which are designed and coiled to the specific requirements of the car. Hope this helps.
  7. Is there any left! :) I can't really take the piss, I seem to be spending hand over fist!
  8. Nice job, looks amazing. Wasn't it a bit hot to do all that in the sun?
  9. Powdercoating is quite durable and has some resistance to chip damage. If you want to increase the paint thickness without having clump build up on the surface, pre-back the part to be painted to 100 degrees or so for 20 mins. This will ensure the metal work is at a uniform temperature and allow you to gain a thicker coat of paint, another benifit of pre-baking is it allows the metal to gas off. This will stop the paint bubbling up once painted. The metal work will need to be baked again at 180 degrees for a futher 15-20 mins and then allowed to cool. I have done this process a few times, unfortunately not to any car parts, but I've done radiators, fireplaces, gates etc.... I've been trying to get my boss to buy a nice sliver powder so I can do my alloys on my Golf :D
  10. You have no idea. Really glad I managed to get it all sorted. Now I can enjoy the car without worrying about little problems. Went to the dealershio on the way home, and got chatting with the main parts guy. Asked about the CCGB 10% discount, they said that they'd honour it, even without me being a member which I thought was good. It seems that there are a few V-dub enthusiasts there, so it looks as if I've got another source of technical advice. :)
  11. Picked it up from the garage after passing it's MOT on the third attempt.
  12. Black, bark blue or green (Couldn't tell as the sun was in my eyes) Corrado on Cross Street in Nottingham about half 4, quarter to 5. Had my first nod/wave from a fellow Corrado owner.
  13. Just had a phone call from the garage and my baby has passed! CO2 was down to 0.06%, much lower than last weeks 8.sommat%! I'm a happy bunny now, can't wait to finish work and go for a drive :D
  14. I think that when they removed the lambda sensor they may have gotten either WD40 or oil or whatever on the probe and inside the end of the cat. I guess it just needs to burn off as it was quite smokey and stank a bit, and did do for quite some time. On the drive home it did down, and stopped smoking. So hopefully next week it should be fine. Fingers crossed! The exhurst needs some fine adjustment as its now developed a most anoying rattle and the flange isn't quite seated properly. But that'll get sorted next week. I took a photo of the rear shocks and it's a good job I changed them both, one was much shorter than the other as so much oil had leaked out and the other has very bad corrosion around the top. Hopefully once this little lot is all sorted it should be fine for some time.
  15. Ahhhh Bugger!!!! Failed again. New cat fitted and the CO2 gone UP :censored: from 0.54 to 8.46 % initially, but after a while in idle it dropped to 3.6 ish. But stil not good enough. Also, the head light adjuster has completly disintergrated. Quick phone call to my local dealer, and I mean local as its 200 yards down the road, and I have one on order for Tuesday delivery at a cost of £11.50 ish Cars back in next week to try and get it through... Hopefully it won't cost too much more!
  16. The car was set up and new injectors fitted at D&G only a few months ago. It looks as if there is no actual cat on the system so having one fitted. The CO2 emmisions where crazy high and just got higher. Thanks for the offer for the battery brackets but I'll make some nice shiney ones at work next week. It'll go with all the other polished stainless under the bonnet. :)
  17. Well it Failed :( 1, Nearside rear shock has had it. Looks like its the original one so its not done bad. Going to get both the rear shocks replaced just to be on the safe side. 2, Headlamp aim, but thats no biggie. 3, Emmision.... was giving out 0.54% CO2 when it should have been between 0 and 0.3 %. So already ordered for next week are 2 shocks and a cat. Also got an advisory. I wondered what the banging was when I went round corners, it appears that the battery has been leaping around in the engin bay :nono: I think I'll be making some nice new shiny stainless brackets on Monday at work to hold it down. :)
  18. If your refering to diesel, so is mine...lol :D You can't fault 56 mpg while hammering it down a motorway at 70 (ish) On a totally seperate note.....My C is booked in for an MOT at 3.30. It'll be the first one I've put it in for. Fingers crossed!
  19. Nice, looks like you've got a black Mk4 Golf in the background, sat on 19's by the look of it. Very nice indeed. Red is really growing on me now. I was initally looking for a black one, but it seems that there are many dark coloured cars out there. Should really call this the 'Red Corrado thread' :)
  20. Thanks mate, yeah got myself a good un. The front lights are not smoked. I think that the photo has made them look a bit darker than they actually are.
  21. lol....They where probably wondering what the bold bloke was waving at  Just think, on Friday you'll see 3, mine yours and the one across the road.
  22. Managed to find a few pic's at work. Taken a while ago, when I had it sat of Bilstien coilovers.
  23. Looks nice mate, personaly I like the contrast of silver alloys against the black of the tyre. I spent ages umming and arring over what alloys to put on my golf. In the end I plumped for a nice set of 19's in silver. They look massive as they contrast really well against the the car which is black. I'll post some pics up later of it.
  24. Plan is to enjoy it for the next year or so. Currently having too much fun driving it to take it off the road just yet. I do have some plans and ideas but still doing my research into it. And saving up!
