The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
Laser Mark replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Fitted my tank straps which have been powder coated, and fitted the exhaust. Which was a bit of a nightmare as I forgot to fit the bracket so had to take it back off! Thought I'd have a go and fire it up. Managed it in the end but the battery is fubar. Can anyone tell me how much I should expect to pay for a new one? Cheers -
My Dads mate had a Lexus IS200 sport, managed to blag a go behined the wheel. It was great fun as at the time I was driving a Pug 106 1.1 XN Then a couple of years later I had a go in his Scuby WRX STi something or other. Scared the crap out of him, never laughed so hard as he was grabbing the seat, dash and door handle for support. Now he's got an Audi RS4 avant, not had a go in that yet. But waiting! Also had a go in a mates XR3i about 13 years ago. The car had some extras but I can't remember what. And my uncles Jag S type 3 and his new VW Touareg, 3.0 TDi, both where nice smooth rides. Supprisingly little body roll in the Touareg.

With it being the last day of work, it was time to bring everything home that I've been working on. So I thought I'd take a few pics. Firstly, the exhaust, looking at it while it was on the car I thougth it could do with a bit of a clean. :cuckoo: Think I may have got carried away, here it is 4 hours after being on a polishing mop! Don't think it's going to stay that clean for long! :( passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfphoto25.JPG[/attachment:2dzn84sm] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfphoto26.JPG[/attachment:2dzn84sm] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfphoto27.JPG[/attachment:2dzn84sm] The complete rear beam and tank straps. photo28.JPG[/attachment:2dzn84sm]

Thought I'd have a look on the website to see what their delivery time was, looks like the prices have been hitched up again. Purchaced mine on Monday at £84 each, checked tonight and thay are £124.40 each! Glad I brought then when I did!

Update 29/11/10 Only managed to get the bushes in today and get the brackets back on. Dave stripped the front calipers down on Friday so they are ready to go in the shot blaster tomorrow. The tool I made to remove the bushes doesn't work too well putting the new ones in. Really thought that I'd have to take it to the garage to have them pressed in. I just couldn't think of a way to do it, then one of the lads had an idea! :notworthy: Corrado92.pdfphoto20.JPG[/attachment:2ruflfkz] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfphoto21.JPG[/attachment:2ruflfkz] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfphoto22.JPG[/attachment:2ruflfkz] And after reassembly, ready to take home and keep in the spare room until it gets warmer! 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfphoto23.JPG[/attachment:2ruflfkz] photo24.JPG[/attachment:2ruflfkz]

RIght, spoke with my boss and I'm unable to do any work on other poeples cars. Really sorry about that.

After reading this thread over the weekend I'll be buying a set of winter tyre's tomorrow. They will be going on my golf as I swapped out the 19" for the standard 16" on Saturday and the tread is getting a little close to minimum for my liking in these conditions. I think I'll be getting the same as purple Tom as they are no too expensive, and he seems to be very impressed.
-
Yeah sure I'll sort something out over the next couple of days and let you know. I want to have a chat with Dave16v as he's been helping out with masking off, and obviously I don't want to charge too much. Will you be stripping the calipers and carriers down yourself and removing the bearings? Or would you want that doing as part of the quote?

Did a bit of work on Thursday with some rollers at work, trying to find the best temperature balance, and work out per-bake temps to. Ended up with some good results but not sure its any good for coating stuff on the car and the reasons are that with Nylon and powder coating, the paint chemically bonds with the matal producing a very tough durable finish. The PVC on the other hand doesn't bond chemically, its more of a mechanical bond as the paint wraps round the part and sticks to itself. It looks good, (now I've figured out what to do) and its quite flexable, resisting the oddd hammer blow, but not convinced that it would be suitable as a coating. So I'm going to stick with powder. ( Trying to get the gaffer to buy some Nylon, but its waaaaaaaaaayyy to expensive!)

Thanks very much :) I can't take all the credit, I've had a lot of help from Dave16v in stripping down the calipers and gathering info on new seal kits, also my mate Andy who has been patient enough to help me strip the beam out the car along with the capliers. I suppose I also have to acknowledge the help I've had from my boss with regards to the powder coating and the best ways to achive the best finish. lol

Thanks, I'm able to offer a service on the shot blasting and powder coating. But please be aware that it'll have to be done around my regular job so turn around will not be as fast as dedicated firms. On a plus side, you can guarantee that the upmost care will be taken, and you will only recieve the parts back when I'm 100% happy with them myself. I'm also only able to offer 2 colours to powder, that being the black and the silver. If your interested drop me a pm and we can work something out Cheers Mark

Dropped the back box off the exhaust and the tank straps. Exhaust is to be polished at work and the straps are being shot blasted and powder coated. -
My C is currently at my folks on the drive and is always covered with a Halfords cover. Probably the best £65 I spent, so far, from what I've seen, the cover is withstanding the weather well. Unable to comment at the moment as regards to the snow/frost as its not been that bad around here yet and I haven't been up to look. But overall, I'm very pleased with it.

Well, not really just today, but the past week or so. Removed wheels, disc's, calipers one weekend and taken to work. Following weekend dropped the rear beam and stripped it down. Shotblasted and powdercoated rear beam along with the disc cover thingies. Stripped and shotblasted rear calipers today ready for gassing off tomorrow. -
Update - 24/11/10 Been on the shotblaster today, after stripping down the rear calipers. From this; passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfphoto16.JPG[/attachment:2fw30p5z] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfphoto17.JPG[/attachment:2fw30p5z] To this; 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfphoto18.JPG[/attachment:2fw30p5z] photo19.JPG[/attachment:2fw30p5z] I'm going to replace all the seals as they where pretty knackered. Will be making a start on the fronts on Friday after they've been stripped down.

Laser mark - mark :D 1) I have a tattoo from top to bottom on my back despite having a fear of needles. 2) I'm Increadably hairy and spend hours keeping it under control. 3) wrestled with a neighbour who was armed with a kitchen knife and fuled by 2 bottles of vodka.

Update - 23/11/10 Managed to get another coat on the rear beam after work tonight. Shold make it last a bit longer. Here come the pics!.............. Thanks Judith. I'll make sure I wrap up warm on Saturday. Lol
-
Yes Judith, I masked off the face's for the hubs, and inserted silicon bungs into the threaded holes to prevent the paint from getting in. I need to sand away some of the paint ready for when I spray it again as I need to obtain a good earth so I get another even coat of powder. The PVC rubber/ plastic will be interesting. It coats much thicker than powder or nylon. The thickness is measured in mm not micros, just need to find out what the temp and impact figures are and find away to get a better even finish on the part. Hoping to get my calipers blasted this week and painted by the weekend. Got a few other bits I want to take off the car and clean/ fix before it gets too cold.
-
I know..... BUt it'll make it last another 20 odd years. Plus the rear bushes needed replacing, so while it was off may as well tart it up a bit...lol
-
Just a small update. After shotblasting the beam and brackets, I powdercoats them. Unfortunatly I couldn't find the right powder on Friday so had a go at PVC coating. It didn't turn out too well, and it needs a bit of work regarding the prebake and post powder temperatures, and the finish leaves something to be desired. (it leaves a ripple finish) But I'm told that a re bake flattens the finish. So I'm going to look into it over the next coulpe of weeks. The PVC is about half a millimeter Much thicker than Nylon or powder coating) thick so it'd be very durable, its also flexible with it being rubber. photo10.JPG[/attachment:hssorrte] As I wasn't happy with the finish on the brackets, so I shotblasted them again. Bee into work today and the gaffer brought in some 30% gloss finish powder! Here are some pics. stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfphoto5.JPG[/attachment:hssorrte] Corrado92.pdfphoto6.JPG[/attachment:hssorrte] Firstly a pic of the beam in the booth, its been sprayed Epoxy Brunox hence the purle colour, this is part primer and part rust converter. (smells Great!) So, here are the bits out the oven after being baked. passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfphoto7.JPG[/attachment:hssorrte] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfphoto8.JPG[/attachment:hssorrte] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfphoto9.JPG[/attachment:hssorrte] Photo's are't great, in the background are the rear dics pressings. Those have been shotblasted and given a good coat of the Brunox, ready for a second application on Monday and then powder coating silver on Monday night! Also, the beam is going to have a second coat of black on Monday, just for good measure! Brake calipers to follow shortly

Looking good mate. :notworthy:

Probably going to be Friday night as he's going to have to order everything. Ordered OEM bushes Nut and Bolt for the bush Bolt for the damper to axel pipe clips Brake hose (that bit that was on the axel) A quick add up, and cost is about 90 quid. The bloke said bring 80, it'll be less with your discount! Just got to remember to be wearing my Rolls Royce T shirt! lol
-
They look good mate. You can mask off mine when you strip them down :D
-
Oh right, the car in the 16th picture isn't mine mate. Can't help you there, sorry.
