1. But the most important job before any of that, is to buy more tea bags :suprised:
2. Popped to the stealers to order up some parts for myself and Purple Tom, the spares guy asked if I'd got it on the road yet. I said yes, and would bring it out the car park and put it on the main road so he could see it. (the guy walks past my house on his way to the bus stop, also handy for him to post parts!) So sat outside and he walks up, says how nice it is etc. :smug: I pop the bonnet and show him the work I've done on the past year. He says "its not a 6 cylinder is it?" "No, 4, its a 2l 16v." Says I. "Pity, I've got a coilpack for a 6 cylinder in my odds and sods box" "I know people with VR's" "Oh right, you can have it when you collect the clips" Well, my jaw hit the ground! :thumb right: VW giving stuff away, my thoughts where that its an old or used one. So, on the way home I called in to collect my bits, and my new, free, unused and still boxed coil pack! Result!
3. I did know when I did my rebuild. But I've forgotten. I'll contact my mechanic tomorrow, he knows as he told me which way round they go.
4. Thanks, not thought about the fuel filter to be honest. It seems to be running a little better now some of the crap fuel has been draw through, but still low on the idle. So yesterday was spent getting it back on the road, here is a picture of the new hard lines Before I started on the Corrado I first had to clean the golf, which ended up looking like this, much better now. Then it was onto the Corrado, as it was nice, and being as I've spent a considerable amount of time under the car laterly I decided to see how the underside would clean up. Having never tryed this before, I just went at it with a brush, some soapy water and a lot of elbow grease. For the first go, I dont think it turned out too bad. From this. To this Next weekend, if the weather is good, I'll have another go. And see if I can get it any better. Also been out for a drive in it, took it for a blast up the motorway, and I must say, I smiled all the way!
5. Been a while since I updated this, but alot has been going on. I've installed the rear beam and the calipers and carriers, I've also been and had new hard lines made up to go with the braided hoses which eventually arrived (only took 4 weeks) The bracket which holds the brake pipe just before the rear caliper was broken on both sides and the only thing holding it in place was the rust and grime on the beam, so I set about making some nice shiny stainless ones. (Thanks Dave for the help) While I was at it I changed the bolts which hold the tank straps on, for Stainless ones. Not been able to take many photos as i've been covered in brake fluid and the such like. Currently having some running problems, sometimes it idles, but most of the time it splutter and then stalls. That is also on the agenda for tomorrow, I've borrowed a throttle body so going to swap them over and see if that improves the situation. The car is going to be washed tomorrow so I'm hoping to get a few more, better pictures.
6. I'll take the ISV then, PM me you address, and number and I'll try and collect on saturday if thats convenient for you.
7. Hi Chap, Had a read through this thread and haven't seen it mentioned. Do you have the throttle body for sale, if so how much for it and the isv? I'll be able to collect if that helps. Cheers Mark
8. As mentioned, continued good progress mate. I think your idea of having it running by Sunday will be reality at this rate, could even be Saturday? Lol Lots of nice shiny painted bits going on soon?!?!
9. Your welcome chap. I didn't really do much, apart from handing you tools or holding the light  But I gotta learn somehow! Thinking I should have invested in a van with the amount of bits I've been lugging around lately!....lol It's coming along nicely, only 4 more days before its running!
10. Looks and sounds as if you've got everything sorted now mate. Top work so far, can't wait to see how you get on later in the week. Will hopefully be dropping your bits of Thursday night if that ok with you. If you need them sooner let me know. Mark
11. Nice progress Tom. I'm just wondering how far you'll have got by 12 tomorrow, as your not hanging about!
12. Nice work Tom. Really liking the idea of a diesel Corrado. Can't wait to see it completed
13. I was up at stupid o'colock this morning to watch the qualy. As you say nice to see the Mclarens showing some pace. I've been reading the winter test reports and Mclaren have made some excellent progress in the last 4 weeks, dumping the octopus exhaust in favour of a more simple design and changing the rear floor. I think its been a bold decision for them to radically alter the aerodynamics of the car, instead of tweeking last years like most of the other teams. I think that the Red Bulls are going to be hard to beat in qualy, but after reading about how well the Mclarens look after their tyres it could all prove different in the race. Hoping for a Mclaren 1, 2. But that ay be asking for too much as I think Red Bull will take the win. It should be an interesting season.....I guess in 8 hours we'll find out. Also nice to see Alonso failing to produce the pace that the car showed during winter testing!
14. The C has been under cover the last 5 months and hasn't been touched, it'll be getting a wash in the next couple of weeks as I'll have finished putting it all together and putting grubby hand prints all over it. Durning the summer it gets washed roughly every other week. My Golf on the other hand, was last washed 2 years ago.:pale:  People at work keep telling me to get it washed. And it does look a state. My excuss is that the dirt is now forming a protective layer over the paint.
15. Fitted rear dics's and calipers, plus front right dics and caliper. Have noticed a few bits are missing so going to have to go to the dealers and order them.
16. I spoke to them on Friday. They are going to put a rush on it. Its now been 14 days since I ordered, the woman said orders take 7-14 days. So hopefully they should arrive early this week.
17. For those who have ordered braided lines from Goodridge, how long did they take to arrive? I ordered mine 11 days ago, all I've recieved is order confirmation from K300. Nothing else... Surely they should have arrived by now? Or am I being impatient as I want to get my motor back on the road? Cheers Mark
18. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread as I have the same problem currently with my 2L 16v. Although most of the time the idle drops to 500 rpm or so more ofter than not, and only occationaly does it jump to 2k+ I've sonic cleaned the throttle body, and checked the resistance on the ISV (priced a new one up and its like £450!!! so won't be going that route!!) So will be checking the pipework over the weekend.
19. Purchaced 2 new ABS Sensors. Thanks to Purple Tom for the heads up on where to get them. Less than £33 each, not bad considering the VW dealer wanted £157 EACH! Also fitted cleaned stub axels, fitted rear disc's and drivers side calipers and carriers. Although not done everything up nice and tight as I need to get everything checked. First time I've done it so want everything double checking, and I can't remember how it came apart
20. Buggered both rear ABS sensors trying to get them out the stub axels! Well there's another job to do! I DID have some spare cash, it seems to have been swallowed up rather quickly :brickwall:
21. I know of a 16v that is going up for sale/ up for sale. I've spoke to the lad in question and told him to join the forum. I'll get in touch with him again and let him know you may be interested. Mark
22. Dave mate, Can you put one to one side, I'll have one for the passenger side door when I get the car back on the road. PS. your fitting it one dinner :thumbleft:
23. lol... Liking this thread. My owner unwrapped me for the first time in 4 months on Friday. He started playing with my back end! It would appear that he's finaly getting round to fitting all the bits he took of me in October! Because I've been stood for so long my battery level is a little low, he hooked me up with leads to his 'other' car and tried to get me going. I mean, the indignity of not being able to have the oppotunity for starting myself, under my own power. Why didn't he go and buy me a new battery? or even a charger? So, here I am, left again while he's of out galavanting in that dirty diesel, and to rub salt in the wounds he didn't cover me up when he left and now I'm all wet and its bloody freezing!
