  1. Personally I wouldn't be in a hurry to get into a knife fight with someone.. if I got mugged I'd rather let them take my stuff than risk ending up dead. Besides, when would you use it? You can't carry it with you - having a knife in the house wouldn't have helped the guy who got mugged on the stairs...
  2. I think Rainsport2's are some of the best all round tyres you can get for the money. I've had Rainsports on two of my Corrado's over the years and they're just a great package and well priced. Wet weather performance on them is really impressive even in heavy rain. I'd happily recommend them to anyone.
  3. Very nice Henny :) Bet it sounds good under full chat! I'd say LPG is an essential now on an engine that size with fuel prices as they are!
  4. There's a 1995 Audi S2 Avant sitting on someone's driveway near me in similar condition which I've had my eye on for some time. Be interested to hear how you get on as it might just inspire me to go and knock.
  5. Crap in the wet. If wet weather performance concerns you then avoid them! And I can give a thumbs up for dealing with mr.lobitos - he sorted me out with some Uniroyal Rainsport2's a few weeks back at a great price and with prompt postage.
  6. I don't understand why this legislation is needed when we already have the annual safety test in the form of an MOT to ensure road worthyness. Any modification which was illegal or dangerous would be picked up immediately and the car would be refused an MOT certificate. I would support adoption of a scheme such as TUV here in the UK thought if I'm honest - would go some way to helping against £150 coilovers and other such schitt! This is the nanny state gone crazy and it's especially ridiculous for cars such as the Corrado where in many circumstances modifications are made because the original parts are no longer available. This would, essentially, force older cars off the road. And would decimate the historic car scene all together - cars simply wouldn't LAST the 30 years to pass into historic status. If there's a protest about this, I will most definitely be there.
  7. Yeah these are very good BBS a-like's without the associated ridiculous cost!
  8. Well that's a total fricking nightmare! Did you get any warning at all? Presumably the engine was running well when you put it in?! You've come this far - stick with it. Rebuild the engine!!
  9. I think this is the key point here. I don't think any one way is right - I'm glad we have the Kip & Judiths who are down to concourse level (how many Corrado's are there in that kind of condition? VW's own MUSEUM doesn't even have an example that good) and I'm glad we have those who use them occasionally, and those who use them as dailys - the Corrado SHOULD be driven. I remember at a CCGB annual meeting several years back when we talked about ideas for a National Day and one suggestion put forward was how about combining the National Day with a track day at something like Silverstone. One member was quite vocally opposed to this (I don't recall who!) as he felt the Corrado should be, essentially, cherished and that abusing it round a track was not the right way. I don't share that viewpoint - I want to drive and enjoy my car... but as I said, I'm so glad there are people keeping these cars to concourse standards because there aren't many left now and thank god someone cares enough to keep a few in such good condition.
  10. Hell it's your car and you enjoy it the way you want to. The only thing I got worried about with my car was using it every day for short trips - my engine is more leggy than yours (184k) and it's starting to sound tired and it forced me to stop using it as a daily purely because I thought I was running it into an expensive or early grave. I only worried about the stupidity and carelessness of other motorists when driving mine every day - otherwise I just drove it and enjoyed it. That said I do feel enough of an attachment to the Corrado in general that I couldn't be responsible for running one into the ground, or breaking one!
  11. You can still buy these from VW classic parts mate... just in case you didn't know!
  12. LOL! I think I'll get mine sold if they're worth that much. (They're available from Classic Parts for just under 9 euro's....)
  13. I didn't need NCB for this policy as I went onto a classic / limited mileage policy thankfully :) My NCB is already applied / used on my daily (yet another ridiculous, backwards, half implemented system by insurers!!)
  14. I've just gone with these guys... thanks for the tip as I'd never heard of them before! I had a renewal quote of £441 from Footman James. Spoke to them on the phone and they said the only way they could lower the premium for me would be to drop the mileage from 4500 to 1500 miles a year - and that would save me a whopping £60. Thanks. Spoke to Sky Insurance - £500!!! Classic Line got to just under £400 so I decided to go with them. I'm pretty sure my quotes on the VR this year are up at least 30% - robbing thieving *******s!!
  15. Renewal for my VR from Footman James is £441 which seems pretty high for a garaged car on a limited mileage / classic policy! :( Getting sick of being shafted by insurers :(
  16. If you can sign up with CostCo, they have tyre centres.. and CostCo membership is international :)
  17. Lets hire some 911's and drive up to Scotland for a weekend! Sounds like a plan!! :)
  18. Well you came to the right place! But you're right - not many American Corrado owners on here - it's 95% UK / British Corrado owners on here :) Everyone is welcome here though!
  19. That is a good point... possibly not a good idea to sell just yet!
  20. Not at all. I listen to all the conspiracies and I listen to both sides and I make my own opinion. I don't consider myself narrow minded.. I just don't have time for nut jobs.
  21. That's a very kind offer Jake - will do some thinking about what I want to do!
  22. Unfortunately it does need a fair bit of paint.. there is rust on every arch which needs attention, the bonnet is well stone chipped and has some weird paint defects, the slam panel is stone chipped and has peeling paint! To be fair some panels would be ok with a good machine polish (e.g. the roof).
  23. I think at this point I'd rather just leave ownership for a few years and then just come back and buy a good one (sound familiar Goldie? :) ) - indeed assuming I still wanted one. To be honest there are a zillion other cars I'd love to own. I love the Corrado but I'm really not THAT attached to them.
  24. Cheers :) I think if I could find a good, local, dry garage then this would be more of a moot point. As it is, the Corrado lives in a damp garage that I have to drive across Coventry to get to. I have no way to wash it or maintain it properly there (no water, no electricity) and can't maintain it properly at home either as it's a flat. It's a bit of a catch 22 really. I guess if I did find a house with a garage or a driveway it would change things and as you say, whatever my car is worth (probably in the region of £1,500) wouldn't really go THAT far into my deposit. I think the biggest issue is the respray. It does need it really, but I don't want to pay for it. And I'd hate to be responsible for letting it get to a point where it'd be too expensive to put it back to good condition - thus rendering it more likely to be a breaker. But really as I've said - the reason for staying in the club all this time has been the friends of made. And I've made those friends now.. I don't need the car to maintain the friendship.
