Really liking the CH's - they work really well on the Corrado!

Quick question on the crank case breather.. with my valver off the road, I went back to using the VR - imagine my joy when sitting in some traffic after a 60MPH drive to notice a little smoke coming out from under the bonnet on the drivers side. I pulled over and popped the bonnet. No sign of smoke or steam. I revved the engine a little and noticed as the revs dropped back down a little tiny bit of smoke appear from somewhere around where the crank case breather valve lives.. but it was hit and miss and wouldn't do it every time. Likely to be a split crank case breather? I've not noticed any more smoke either from under there since. Seemed to have an oily / exhausty kind of smell to it.

Stanford Hall 2011, Sunday 1/5/2011

Jake - you might need to consider supercharging your car before attempting to convoy with Wendy.. be warned, she does drive quickly and knows the local roads very well! :) -
I don't want the noise mate.. I'd like to get the exhaust silenced and de-chav the 16v a bit. I've really grown to like how quiet the VR is at motorway speeds and want some of that action on the valver. A straight pipe to a magnex back box would be LOUD! :) And yeah mate.. couldn't believe it! Though was pretty thankful it got me home before playing up. I did the drive home then the next morning fired it up and thought "jesus - this exhaust is blowing a bit" - drove to a friends a few miles away and by then it was already booming a bit. Drove the car home later that day and the noise was ridiculous... and by the time I was coming home the noise was deafening. I just reversed it off the drive to get the VR back out (which I'd polished and covered ready for Stanford - was hoping to use the valver for a few days!!) and heard the exhaust dragging on the floor. You've got to laugh.

Welcome to the forum. Get searching.. we've talked about lots of this kind of stuff before :) The 1.8 16v is an early model.. changeover to later was mid 1992... Mods wise. The 1.8 16v engine can get some good power extracted from it, but you do need to be prepared to spend a few quid on some traditional tuning techniques.. forget about remaps and the like! The best thing you can do is get it taken to a VW specialist for a good service and a tune up and they can advise on some of the things you might want to look into. Popular mods are a nice exhaust system, and good suspension :)

A company over here supplied the redrilled rotors..

Not exactly... but this might be of interest! http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?45434-312mm-Brakes-on-a-4-Stud&highlight=supercharged+312mm

Terrible wheels and horrendously unsafe. It's a winning combination. The guy asking for that must have a brain the size of an acorn.

There is a Powerflow dealer in Coventry that Eric has been going to for years. They fitted the VERY loud exhaust to his MK2 Scirocco, but I'm sure I could get something quieter.. i.e. nearly stock / standard. Just moved the car and the noise is hilarious. Found that the pipe from the cat to the suitcase has rusted apart and is basically hanging off / dragging under the car. Brilliant. Gonna have to jack it up and rip that off before I drive to an exhaust centre! Going to be an embarrassing & noisy few miles!
-
I am seriously debating going to Powerflow or similar.. mostly because of the long (lifetime?) warranty which means I can keep going back if it rusts or drops off. As long as I can get them to tune the noise RIGHT down to the lowest levels.. think I've had enough of loud exhausts now, especially as a 4 cylinder motor isn't exactly a pleasure on the ears! :) Ideally want a new VAG one but as you say David, heaven knows what the price is likely to be for the bits from the cat back.. Mounts should be OK. Front one is a few year old Vibratechnics and the other two were checked a few years back and despite being ancient, seemed to be in good shape.

My red car has always been a bit of a pain with the exhaust. Over the 5 years or so I've had it (scary) the exhaust has on a number of occasions come slightly loose, or developed a blow, or something similar. A year or two back I picked up a magnex backbox, and coincidentally the powerflow one on there decided to rust apart and fall off - so the Magnex one got fitted. After several trips to garages the backbox moved around, started to knock, started to blow and yesterday after the first long drive of the car in probably 2 years, I think it's completely detatched from the centre sections as the noise for the last mile or so home was deafening and embarrassing. I''ve spent probably in excess of £300 buying the backbox and at *least* 5 trips to DG and Stealth over the few years getting this piece of ****, bodged exhaust system patched up. The moral of the story should have been to just put a decent system on in the first place as it's ended up costing me more to keep patching it up :( It's also made me more determined to get shot of whatever aftermarket claptrap is underneath the car and just stick on an original VAG system!

Nice! I'll have to read up on what the modifications were to get that BHP figure!

The VR6 is, I think, pretty respectable on fuel. A well maintained, healthy VR6 should return mid 20's MPG in the city and mid 30's MPG on a run :)

Manhattan Motors in Coventry...?! I thought they were just there to do approved repairs for Peugeot!

Nice and unusual offer for forum members! Will bear you guys in mind if I ever make it up to the Lakes! :)

And this is why we have the MOT in the UK.. lol!

My mistake. I just cost myself some scene points! Both my Corrado's have their first aid kids.. I'm sitting on a goldmine! :)
-
Yes.. but normally they're more interested in the shiny stuff you can see, rather than stuff that's out of sight!

I'm going to wager that this isn't the immobiliser problem. Just doesn't sound right. In my (admittedly limited) experience the car will always start and run for a second or two before cutting out and is generally VERY consistent / persistent.. just trying to start the car a few times won't normally get you round it! Do you find that it smells of fuel? It does seem like it's either short of fuel, or got too much fuel.. thinking it might be something like a leaking injector? What happens if you leave the car for a week or so?
-
Dear god. £71 for a first aid kit filled with expired, and therefore useless equipment. The world has gone crazy.

Please familiarise yourself with the forum rules!

Did think it might be the motor ultimately. Thanks mate.

So... you managed to get the job lot for £60 and you're going to try and sell it back off on here for profit, when everyone knows you got it for a song? Good luck with that one Jake!

Anybody know what to do about this? My VR suffers from the same problem as the OP. Tilts fine and without any issues... But to go backwards and forwards you have to press the button about 100 times to make it fully open and close. The runners look nice and clean and are well greased thanks to the previous owner.. but what the hell could cause this? Neil suggested it is just the sunroof seal being new so quite tight.. but even trying to help the mechanism by pushing the sunroof panel in either direction when it's trying to close makes zero difference.
