New to the UK, looking for a service shop for my 16 valver in Birmingham
Jim replied to Darrsh's topic in Suppliers Forum
Either DG or Stealth would be fine :) Good to hear of another local (I'm only over near Coventry - 30 minutes from Birmingham) - keep your eyes open for meets and get togethers in the area! -
UKMKIV's.. I presume they branched out onto other marks of Golf! When I had a MKIV, they were a good bunch :)

Who the hell lets a 20 year old out in a Gumpert Apollo, unsupervised?!

That's the brass injector inserts I think you're thinking of David..?

Welcome aboard! Very impressive work! :) There's a few Corrado TDI's on here now.. at least 3 others. Worth having a search around.. you guys are in a pretty unique / minority group :)

I'm pretty sure my 1993 2.0 16v has a flat carpet and space saver.. I don't spend much time looking in the boot though to be honest! Will try and remember to have a nose tomorrow morning.

The roads look sensational!

I replaced the upper and lower inlet on my 16v a few years back, and those things are very brittle indeed especially if they're original. As I understand it, it should be pull out / push in new ones. Should still be available from VW! I never replaced mine as I forgot to order spares, and they didn't want to come out with gentle persuasion..

Absolutely awesome. Superb work mate. Really enjoying reading this :)

I think I remember the car.. but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the guy who owned it. Ah yes.... Endor71 was, I think, his username..? ---------- Post added at 08:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:42 PM ---------- And he sold it to a guy with the username iow_corrado_g60 :) http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?21569-BACK-TO-THE-VW-FOLD..............VR-HIGHLINE&highlight=Endor71

Might be this chap from a few years back? Wondering if the reg plate was sold off along the way... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?13910-Flusted-s-16VG60-quot-Unpimp-das-auto-quot

Reasonably productive weekend on the cars! * Changed the tensioner pulley bearing on the VR6 * Gave the VR a wash, hoovered out * Washed 8 tonnes of bird poop off the 16V and hoovered it out * Modified the dash undertray so that the clutch pedal no longer fouls on it (after doing the fixed height column mod, it's changed alignment a little) * Finally got the fuse box cover to clip on with original clips - not screws! Two clean Corrado's, both running OK! Always a good feeling :)

You've put the loom eBay number twice mate :)

Just to warn you, some dealers will probably give you a hard time and say that they have to order in a whole roll of it (in 5/10/20m or something) and as they won't sell any more in a hurry, they won't want to order it for you. I've been given that fob-off in the past!

God knows what a dealer supplied MiniDisc player cost in 1994/1995! Rather exorbitant then I would imagine?
-
Much interest in the Corrado out where you are? Really interesting stuff :)

Early cars basically had a lock & key! No electronic security at all. You could get a dealer fit alarm system from (I think the early to mid 90's) and then the last VR6's got a key coded immobiliser system. But that's pretty easy to defeat if you know your way around VAG-COM.

Weird chirrup / squeak from belt side of block on VR6.. think it's PAS pump.
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Drivetrain
I did wonder if it was the belt. If I feel inclined over the weekend I'll go get my jack and axle stands from the lock-up over in Coventry and have a go at this. Seeing as I've done the hardest part (removing the tensioner), simply taking off / replacing the belt can't be much harder! -
Halfords do a more than acceptable cover that's a good fit for the Corrado.. they're about £50. You want the "Medium" size one :)

I'll have to take the car out again and have another listen.. the chirrup comes and goes a bit and it's not possible to hear it whilst in / driving the car. I'll bump up the thread next time I take it out for a drive and see if I can hear how the noise changes as the engine revs increase. -

Temperature, heaters all seem fine mate... -
I think it's designed for LHD cars... won't fit properly on RHD :(

Hi all.. I came back from a 140 mile drive last weekend and noticed when I hopped out of the car with the engine running there was this occasional squeak / chirrup kind of noise. Being an optimistic sort of guy I presumed it was the aux belt tensioner failing (car has done 175k and no idea when it was last changed) so I've just got all the bits today and successfully changed the bearing out of the pulley with the excellent guides available on here. However - imagine my disappointment to set off out for a spin and find it's still doing it even after swapping the bearing! That was a good waste of an hours effort and £50 on tools and parts!! :| On closer inspection the noise seems to be coming from lower down the block - probably in the region of the PAS pump. The noise seems to happen once every couple of seconds.. and it sounds like a little mousey squeak I guess. Power Steering feels fine / normal so no signs that it's on the way out or anything.. I recorded a camera phone video but it couldn't even pick it up and was just drowned out by general engine noise. Any thoughts?

Ah - just found on the Vortex guide 18lbft for the 3 bolts onto the block and 30lbft for the bolt onto the pulley... ---------- Post added at 01:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:48 PM ---------- Strangely the old bearing seemed ok. No real resistance when spinning it by hand, and no obvious noises from it. New bearing on the pulley seems to feel about the same in terms of the resistance / how freely it spins. Maybe it wasn't that making the noise after all. Will brave taking the car for a spin now and see what happens!

All done and seems ok :) Only question.. how tight should I have done the bolt that holds the pulley to the tensioner? It was fricking tight to undo so I did it back up fricking tight.. but an actual torque value would have been nice I think!
