Ok managed to get the bonnet open and found there is nothing plugged into the fans. Had a look around and couldn't find the wire the plugs in anywhere :-( So can someone point out where it comes from? I assumed it came off the same loom as the switch that goes into the radiator but couldn't find anything on or near that loom.

VR6 - Black smoke under hard acceleration and massiv oil usage ??
krishen replied to emu's topic in Engine Bay
After i had the the head rebuilt on my VR it was using about 2-2.5k in 400 miles. Took it back to the garage and just before they were going to remove the head they found that a breather pipe was completely gunked up. Cleaned it out, and presto engine worked a treat, oil consumption dropped and no more smoking. Worth a check before in case it is something as easy as this. -
Its a VR6. Before i can start testing i need to get the bonnet open.

Bought the car Feb 2010 and so far costs are as follows (what i can remember at the moment): £2800 - Purchase of car £1200 - Rebuilt head, chains some other bits. £1100 - Rebuilt standard suspension, front bushes, gearbox mount. £300 - 288mm brakes £600 - New PAS pipes, rear axle bushes, heater matrix, heater controls £330 - New clutch fitted. £100 - BMC induction kit. £100 - Random 'spare parts' Total £6,530. Thats in 18 months. Only thing i would change is NOT buying the first VR i went to see (heard the noise and couldn't help myself).

I was driving home today and as i got in traffic noticed the coolant temp jumping up. Normally sits at about 90. Pulled over and realised i could't hear the fans. I had just picked the car up from the garage (new clutch fitted) so hoping that its just a case of the switch/sensor not being plugged in. But as i went to open the bonnet realised the cable has come away from the handle so unable to get the engine bay just yet. Question is i need the car tomorrow. Will it be ok (motorway all the way) if fans are not kicking in?
-
Desperately need to get to my engine bay as the the rad fans aren't coming on but the bonnet cable has come away from the handle you pull. Had a search and most bonnet cable issue are pointed to a post on the wiki page. Is is useful but being a noob that i am need a bit more help. I tried to pull the cable with a pair of pliers but it doesn't seem to want to budge. So my question is how much force do you need to apply when pulling the cable? I did give it some force but maybe im just not strong enough :-(

Another question Is it best to go for a standard VR clutch or go for an uprated/aftermarket one?
-
Only just got the car back from Graham at DG after a couple of weeks and looks like ill have to drop it back. Need the car to drive to get to London today so hopefully clutch will last to london and back (fingers crossed).

Oh dear. Why is it every time i'm about to go holiday this car plays up :-( So how much should i budget for a clutch change? And should i get anything else done at the same time? I had the upper chain, guide and tensioners done when i first bought the car (and the garage told me that the clutch looked ok so no need to change it - maybe a bit naive on my part). How long can the clutch hold out for before it completely goes? Will a couple of weeks/300 miles be ok?
-
Always hear people talking about slipping clutches but not sure what the symptoms are. Over the last few days i've had an issue where if i'm driving and accelerate, the revs go high but my speed stays the same. After a few seconds the revs drop back and the speed does increase. Is this a slipping clutch or something else?

There is an adaptor that you can buy. About £5 from Halfords.

Mmm. Will have to look out for a mk3 motor in the scrappies/ebay. Cheers.
-
So a mk3 motor works in a corrado?

If there was an issue with Morrisons petrol then surely more people would have complained/had issues? Like the tesco petrol fiasco a couple of years ago.
-
Try cleaning the isv first before replacing any other parts.
-
The fob not working may be down to the battery being almost dead. Try replacing it. Not sure if aftermarket alarms work the same as factory fobs but when you do change the battery in the fob need to do it quickly otherwise you will need to sync/program the fob to the car.

Ill take one please. Excellent work. -
I must admit the side lights looked good on my previous car but that was because i also had HIDs. The LED side lights with non HID main beam bulbs won't look that great in my opinion. I believe the main bulbs are H4 so they work as both main and full beam so no need for separate bulbs.

As above post some pics please. We want to see the khaki beast ;-)
