    G60 Timing (Sorry!!)

idle is crap, cant get it any lower than about 13-1500 most of the time, which is annoying. Worse when its cold but it doesn't get much better when warmed up. Dont suppose you know what resistance the blue and black coolant sensor should read when warmed up?? I've measured them both when trying to diagnose the culpret of the bad idling. I then noticed the sensor leads were plugged into each other sensor. When I switch them back to there own sensors the car does the black smoke, sputtering when driving at 60!! . The idlle problem also remains which ever. I know the sensor are exactly the same just different in colour so surely they should read the same resistance. They are different by a long way, but I'm not sure which ones shot. Suppose for the cost of them, I may aswell change them both. The end :( Timo.

    G60 Timing (Sorry!!)

yeah i've looked at that. My main question is, what do you do after you have twisted it? Rev the engine to see if it knocking/pinking etc. If so, how much do you rev it by..... and so on. Its more the minor details like that, that I am not sure about. Dont want to go in there feet first and screw everything up without knowing every thing I want to..... plus I'm a wee bit scared!! It so much more complicated than my vr6. Well, I think it is anyway. cheers Timo.

    Pulley size?

cheers guys. As I thought. I dont think the previous owner knew that it was tuned up. He just kept telling how fast it was and that g60's were as fast as vr6.... blah blah blah..... No offence obviously :). Anyway this thing is quicker than my vr. I was quite surprised by its pace, hence why I was sure it had had some work done to it. Cheers Timo.

    Pulley size?

If you measure the standard pullley diameter, how big is it? Measured mine on my new g60 last night and its 68-69mm!!! I'm sure thats not standard, is it? Na wonder is goes like sh&t of a shovel!!!! Next question, with it having a smaller pulley is it likey to have been chipped to handle it? cheers Timo.
  5. I know there are quite a few threads on this already but they haven't quite answered what I want to know....like how to do it step by step. The guy that owned the car before me says he had advanced the timing a bit and that that was the reason it idled so high sometimes. I have found reading some of the threads, which have given me a rough idea but if someone could give me a step by step method (that dont use fancy tools and a novice to g60 can use) I would be very greatful. Sorry for covering this again but its beginning to annoy the tits outta me and I've only had the car two days. Cheers Timo.
  6. Mmmmm..... Bugger :( Timo.
  7. Having a really good look under the bonnet and noticed a few things this afternoon.... Some good  , some not so good :( First thing I noticed was some large pipes at the bottom of the radiator and thought to myself, I wonder what there for, as they looked quite clean and rather new. Anyway followed the pipe work up the in front of the radiator and guess what I found....... A nice, rather flash oil cooler. That was a nice suprise. Second thing I noticed was an oil leak :( , coming from where the oil cooler pipes feed from the filter. Looked like some of the jubilee clips were not too tight so tightened them up and hopefully that'll be the end of that problem. Thirdly and most definitely the worst is on inspecting the charger inlet and outlet pipes I have come across the fatal grey mushy oil that suggests the charger is heading out the door. Thing is, it only done 29k. It was replaced when the car had done 50k. I have the receipt. So, surely it aint gonna give up this soon. And forthly, the drivers side outer CV boot and got a large split in it. Look like it has gone very recently. How easy is it too change this? Cheers Timo. (Happy and Sad.....)
  8. Acc. pedal on ma g60 is very firm almost to the point of sticking. The cable looks fine from the engine bay. Anyone have any causes or solutions. WIll have a better look tomorrow as there is a few panels blocking ma view inside the car. Cheers Timo.
  9. Picked up the new addition to the collection tonight. I have never driven a g60 before but the journey home was full of surprises and and now have a grin for ear to ear. What an absolute beast. Sooo fast and it pulls like a train in any gear. Anyway onto my question Checked the boost using the MFA, idle numbers were within range, then went out and red lined it in 3rd (Didn't bother redlining it in 4th) and noted the highest value. It was 1970. According to the buyers guide that comes out roughly at 14 psi. According to the guy I bought it from the car is standard. But surely it had something done to it. I.e. a smaller pulley... Its boosting 3 psi over a standard. What do you reckon? cheers Timo.

    Fan Control Module

The aux coolant pump should work with the ignition turned on when and when not, engine is running. Quote:- "In addition, an Auxiliary Electric Coolant Pump also circulates engine coolant anytime the ignition is switched on. The Auxiliary Electric Coolant Pump also runs when the engine is switched off and the coolant temperature goes over 107° C (220° F). It runs in conjunction with the Radiator Cooling After-run System. Circulating the coolant during this time helps cool the engine block and prevent the possibility of air pockets forming in the cylinder head. " It used to work like it should, until the pump died. I didn't get round to changing it for about a month and when I finally put the new one on it no longer worked like it did before. The reason I realised the pump had gone was because I could no longer hear is buzzing away when the ignition was on. Timo.
  11. Basically its a major grey area!!?! It wasn't going to be done on a regular basis. I just wanted the car to get a wee bit of usage occasionally so it didn't sit for months without moving at all. Cheers anyway, my question has strike up a good debate on the subject anyway  Timo.

    Fan Control Module

Do these have a tend to sometimes go? i.e. begin to malfuction. Just my aux electric coolant pump doesn't work when the igntion is on. (I have replaced it!) and i've had the wiring diagram out of the bentley checking all the wires for breaks and power and they are all fine. It does however work when the engine is off and too hot and the overrun kicks in! which is weird. I pretty sure now that something has gone in it. Its the only thing it can be! What do you reckon? Timo.
  13. Basically you lot dont know the answer. Not really bothered, just wondered if my Dad would legally allowed to drive my VR6 once I change my insurance. It will just have to have a real good rest. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz 8) Timo.
  14. Mmmm, not worth the risk. They (insurance companies) must have this loop covered surely! Cheers Timo. (Now hunting for second insurance) Not good!!! Plan B..... Vr6 is going for some well earnt rest in one nice dry warm garage where no young wipper-snappers will find her!!
  15. Right, here goes. You know how if you are over 25 years old and have fully comp. insurance you can drive someone else's car third party which is covered by your own insurance. My question is, does the other car have to be insured by someone in order for it to work?? Just that I am about to receive corrado no.2 and if I switch my insurance to it I wont be able to drive my vr6 anymore. I'm not 25 and it will legally belong to me. Basically I want to know whether my Dad will be able to drive around in my vr6 even though it doesn't have insurance of its own? I'm thinking the answer to this is no! Otherwise there's a nice wee loop hole in the insurance law. Timo.
  16. No offence but how after all the work you've done you only gonna get 215bhp?? Suppose now looking at you sig, its only the cams that are making a big difference? I take it you have it chipped?? Sorry if I'm talking sh$te? just interested more than anything else!! Timo.

    boost pressure

where do most people get their boost gauges from? Are there any recommended manufacturers? Price? Just found a supercharger specific gauge on demon-tweeks. I take it there is no real difference between this and other turbo gauges apart from the fact its say 'supercharger' instead of turbo? And, finally how easy are these to fit and where does the pressure sensor go? cheers, sorry for all the questions. Timo.
  18. Emm, need to check it out the morn. Really rather frustrating. I'll try testing them all for voltage. Might have a look at the electrial diagram in ma bentley manual to see if that'll help. cheers Timo.
  19. Thanks for that, didn't realise my postcode was showing  . If I see anyone dodging about my house... remember I have a a nice gun cabinet full of shot guns and I'm soon to become a copper!!! Just messing!! No, the vr is certainly not for sale. Its going to live in my sisters garage for a few months to keep the miles of it!! vr6storm, "cheap project", whoops  . Does need a little attention body wise but nothing major. Can't wait to get it, it has a private plate on it at the minute so I need to wait a wee bit so the guy can transfer that off and get a replacement number sorted. That'll take about a week at least so I've heard. Its gonna be a long wait :( Simon.
  20. Well chuffed, It not in perfect condition body wise, but with a little t.l.c it soon will be. But, its spot on mechanically which is the most important. Going back tonght to put down a deposit!! I just need to find the money from somewhere. Its a joint venture between my dad and myself so I only need to find half the money we paid for it!! It a real looker, really wanted a yellow one. Looked at two g60's yesturday, the other one was more money that the yellow and was nowhere near as nice. So chuffed and really excited!! Will be calling the old local bank on monday to arrange a wee loan  Timo.
  21. Just got a baby brother for my vr6!!! check it out:- Link here That's some web address!!! sorry! Should have it by next weekend, yeeeehhaaaa 8) Timo. Sorted link for you. VR6
