  1. Not sure if these are any good or anyone would be interested, just spotted it on Gumtree http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/raceland-vw-golf-corrado-vr6-stainless-steel-manifold-downpipe/97102096

  3. What about this to test the water? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-Volkswagen-Corrado-Coupe-1781cc-Petrol-/390390534031?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item5ae516cf8f#ht_1182wt_1185 It's got 2 months motoring in it and you could be saving something from Corrado Heaven If all else fails, it'll be a good source of parts for your next one.
  4. 5. Before finally deciding on the Corrado I was looking at A4 Avants, Passat Estates and Alfa 156 Sportwagons. The A4 s and Passats were high output TDIs, but the AR156 had to be a 2.5V6. Great fun to drive, great sounding engine - no ICE required - and with £5 to spend you could even have a daily to drive when the AR156 was in the garage - ha ha. Manual of course. I didn't fancy the GTAs because of the body kit.
  6. Loads of these on autotrader selling as well. Usually can tell by price being too good - by £000s. And will only contact by email. Often claim to be going back to Afghanistan so need a quick sale - sick. If it looks to good to be true...it is too good to be true
  7. Try Purple Tom's Diesel thread for how to make the gear lever throw shorter - I presume that's what you mean by a short shifter.
  8. Yesterday a friend's S-Max dribbled its oil on the road until she got home after a short journey, where it dumped the rest on the block paved drive. After an inspection in the dark, couldn't figure out the problem, but since it would need a tow to the garage called the AA. They came this morning and concluded oil filter had loosened. Car was serviced last September, so cause not clear, but worth checking on your car, as cheaper than the consequences. Any ideas on how to get oil out of a driveway?
  9. Maybe not a great help, but worth trying. But before I start - like Scotties - I'm old(er) at 48. I've just insured the Touran and the C for £457 fully comp with Privilege. They are giving 10% of on additional cars insured. Was quoted £623 by Admiral for a virtually identical policy. They took £80 of that just because I asked and was a repeat customer, but I jumped ship as privilege still cheaper. Can see me jumping again next year. Worth looking at multicar policies if you are thinking of getting a daily to run alongside. Also try moneysavingexpert.com - it's got a thing where you select your job, then it works out which jobs have similar descriptions and what the diffeence in premium is for these. I've just changed my title, worth about 5%. Hope this helps
  10. I've a problem that the fabric is coming away from the backing behind the sunvisors and the interior light unit. Has anyone tried this type of adhesive with the standard trim? Does it show through or leave a stain or anything? Cheers
  11. Just for info. I usually use Chrome. If I get the problem, and then access with Explorer I get in immediately. If I go back to Chrome, then it will still not be working. Obviously that was before Andi made the last change, but may help figure what is up. D
  12. Think I've sussed it. Took the connector of the sensor again. This time in daylight and not while trying to get somewhere. Undid the tape round the wires as they go into the connector and realised that none of the other connectors had this tape. Continued expecting some sort of repair would be revealed. Sure enough. 3 bullet connectors jammed into the back of the 'Bosch' connectors, not clamped to the terminals, no silicon grommets present to seal the wires - hence the electricians tape. This must be why giving the connector a wiggle was sorting things temporarily. Need to get seals and terminals and remake the connection. Who is a good supplier for these terminals and seals?
  13. Late dark coloured (probably blue) C at the top of Drymen Road near the Ski club and Bearsden Academy going north at about 9am this morning. Just notices at the last minute so didn't get the reg on anything. Might have been Elliot. I was in the C. g ---------- Post added at 06:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:02 PM ---------- Late dark coloured (probably blue) C at the top of Drymen Road near the Ski club and Bearsden Academy going north at about 9am this morning. 14. Did the remove and refit - this is the Corrado equivalent of the IT guy telling yo to switch it off and switch it on again. Worked fine immediately. Next next day it didn't work at all. Disconnected the wiring and reconnected. Started working again OK. Beginning to think the problem may lie in the wiring. Drove it the other day and the speedo was dead. Stopped. Disconnected wiring - gave it a wiggle - plugged it in again. Working fine. I think thee may be a short somewhere in the sensor wiring.
  15. Bump-starting a recovery truck...again
  16. That's impressive...in the wrong sort of way
  17. Thanks for all that. Glad I asked and I get the feeling that the above is the reason this has't been touched in the past. Especially thanks for the tips on the marshmallow bolts and the gearbox cover. D
  18. Am I right in thinking that you have to take the thermostat housing off the engine in order to change the thermostat? I think that one of the bolts holding the thermostat cover in place is obscured so that you cannot remove it in situ. And can you get the thermostat housing off without taking the front member and radiator out? Cheers D
  19. Caught me a couple of half hours yesterday and today and... Yesterday removed the speed sensor off the gearbox and refitted it. Have had erratic speedo readings. Sensor wasn't loose, but could have been tighter. seems to be coming loose, then speedo goes mad. Then today the speedo was dead. Removed and refitted connector and all was well again. Today, put VAG-COM on since the engine had warmed up and I wanted to see whether temp gauge matches VAG-COM temp. Discovered that the gauge reads up to 5C low, but on normal running the engine is about 68 to 69C. Fans come on at 93, gauge showing 90C. Think engine should run be running at a bit over 80, so possible the thermostat is too low temp setting or stuck open. What is changing the thermostat like on a VR6? doesn't look very accessible ---------- Post added at 11:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 PM ---------- Oh and notice the right rear ABS sensor not working...ho hum
  20. AAARRRRGGGHHH Speedo has started to play up again OK it did this a couple of months ago, and I took the sensor off the gearbox again and refitted it. At the time I thought that it seemed to unscrew quite easily - almost loose. As I said I refitted it and everything was OK. Then... Just a few days ago as I was slowing down for a roundabout, going down through the gears, blipping throttle to match the vehicle speed, I spotted out of the corner of my eye that the speedo was reading high. It was fine on exit of the roundabout. I've noticed this a couple of time since the then tonight that when idling the speedo started to show about 10-15mph and would rise with engine speed. A couple of times on the journey it showed high, then by the end of the journey it was quite erratic, although most of the time operating normally. I noticed that a couple of times when I was approaching a junction and disengaged the clutch the speed would rise. Any clues? It's wet today which could be something Car is a '96 VR6 I plan to take the sensor off again and refit it to see if that solves it. Cheers
  21. as anyone run VAG-COM on a Mac? is there a special version of the software? Cheers
