  1. Watched Micheal McIntyre’s Christmas Special on BBC. Missed it as it was broadcast, but have now watched it twice on iplayer. The ‘Fairy Tale of New York’ and Rhod Gilbert’s Christmas present had me in tears. Give it a try – still on iplayer I think.
  2. Given how many people drive at greater than 70mph, if the law became zero tolerance - i don't know using average speed cams or something - then probably there would be no difference or a reduction in the average speed. TBH I'm more in favour of mandatory variable speed limits, like on the M25 near Heathrow. I don't know what that is like now, but when it was introduced the traffic flowed much more freely - or was that because it was 6 lanes wide each way as well...
  3. So what's your plan? keep both? Build all the good bits into one? How old is it? I think I've seen it before on some site. The bonnet sticker looks familiar Must be an excuse to meet up somewhere in all that Happy New Year guys BTW
  4. I'm using 'Lupos' and had to file off the shoulders to get the blades to touch the screen. I think that you can take too much off. I sometime got juddering when they were new but they seem to have bedded in now. Also after applying Rain-X they can judder for a few wipes. Rainx will cut down on blade wear since they don't get used as much
  5. At last - got it working. Thanks for everyone's help D
  6. Thanks I'll try that. I use Chrome normally, I'll try downloading it via Explorer to see if that helps. It did download, but the computer didn't recognise the file type. Cheers
  7. Hi Dannyboy I've done that. Windows makes 2 bleeps when you plug in and unplug the cable. When I tried the link, it didn't seem to work, so I used the http: address and worked out what I was looking for. I've used the WHQL_Certified driver on the page at the link below. http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm It's and .exe file, that seemed to put something into DOS - a DOS window opened during install - there was no install wizard. I've tried it again with the cable and still not getting a link. Easypops has reminded me about the latency and that is set at 5 now. Do you have further instruction? Cheers
  8. Hi Guys Back to trying to get this to work. I've flattened/reformatted the laptop and re-installed the operating system, and have started again with the Vag-Com installation. Vag-Com is installed and I have managed to get the hardware wizard to recognise the cable...but (you knew that was coming), still can't get Vag-Com to find the interface. On Vag-Com Com3 I get 'Error 32 while accessing port, Interface:Not Found!' and on the Com4 and USB settings I get 'Port status OK, Interface: Not Found!' I've not tried getting the connection while in the car, but may try that later this morning if this storm dies down. Question - can't remember where to go to set the latency to 5, and can't find the places to set the COM Port to COM3 in the Device Manager. Can someone remind me where these are? I think that the OS reinstall may have altered what I can get access to. Cheers
  9. Hi I'm in Glasgow and drive mine to work 2 or 3 times a week - north to southside and back, and usually don't see any except a Storm parked in a drive near me
  10. The height of the side of the tyre is easy to work out. Width x Profile so a 215/40 has a sidewall height of 215x0.40 = 86mm. a 205/45 has a sidewall height of 205x0.45 = 92.25mm. The profile describes the height of the side wall as a percentage of the width. Ride comfort and handling will depend on a number of things, but assuming everything else stays the same and you only change the tyre size - keeping the tyre make and model the same - theoretically the tyre with the biggest sidewall height x width value should be more comfortable as their is more air in that tyre. But that's just the theory...Even tyres that are supposedly the same make and model and size can be different. I reckon, one of the reasons Schumacher was so good when at Ferrari was that the tyres where developed with Ferrari to suit him and the car - that playing field is now level - however car makers do exactly the same. They work with a chosen supplier and specially develop the compound, strength, flexibility .....etc and the tyre might look the same as another of the same brand, but performs differently. That is why when you go onto Blackcircles you find them selling a specific make and model of tyre, but there will be Mercedes, Audi, BMW etc versions. all tuned specifically. The one's we buy are the seconds in effect - didn't make the oem grade. Must be some tyre manufacturer guys or ride and handing guys from a car maker on here...they'd be able to give you chapter and verse. ---------- Post added at 10:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:56 PM ---------- I don't think so, unless I'm misunderstanding you. If you have an extra inch of diameter, then you will have to reduce the suspension travel by half an inch, because the top of the tyre is already half an inch nearer the underside of the body. In reality you will probably have clearance, but this is reduced. Then again, I may have misunderstood what you are saying. ---------- Post added at 10:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:09 PM ---------- What are rolled arches? See a lot of folk mentioning them Cheers
  11. Washed the C and RainX'd the front and rear screens. Plan to wax the body - Angelwax - and RainX anti fog the inside of the windows tomorrow morning. Have one coat of the stuff on and working really well. Had wondered if the windows didn't mist up because I keep it in a car port, but last week kept it on the street as our steep drive was frozen and still clear screens. Probably do my wife's Touran too. It's a diesel so takes a while to warm up and demist.
  12. If rubbing the arches is the problem, either you have the wrong offset on the wheels or the body is too low. Have you thought of modifying the arches? Are you using spacers? Can you post some pics for us to see?
  13. Just spotted this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-M-Volkswagen-Corrado-2-9-Hatchback-VR6-BLACK-/330661615308?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4cfcf7d6cc#ht_1582wt_1396
  14. Like the idea. Will have a look in my allocated C time - LOL. Hopefully get loads of pics and how to stuff and specs from folk. You should contact quicky1980, he's done a guide to how he built his. I'd love the same for 4WD4 too.
  15. Got the Senna DVD, Top Gear Christmas Annual, Haynes Porsche 911 exploded view T-shirt and Senna and 1945-1990 classics price guide book-a-mag/mag-a-book... Best of all I'm promised a bit of time off for some washing and polishing of the C with Angelwax. (So long as I clean the Touran while I'm at it)
  16. What is the roof rack set up you have? In the Pic it looks like you have roof rails as well as clamping to the door frame Cheers
  17. Impressed...and impressed with 4 bikes on the roof.
  18. Mine's daily drive, have done a few trips as a family - my wife and our 2 kids 6 and 10 - that's no problem. A holiday or probably trying to do a week's shopping would probably push the boot to the limit.
  19. Found this on PH this morning worth a read http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=24900
  20. Thanks for that. Myth busted. I realise that Wikipedia is not the most reliable, but with anything you read you need to not believe it (Boomtown Rats - Don't Believe What you Read), test it, check it, peer review it etc. I think these wiki's have been peer reviewed now. At Uni we WERE allowed to use Wikipedia in moderation, but you needed to show good reason to have used it as a source, which generally meant backing it up with something else. I was doing a Masters and part of that is developing an ability to separate wheat from chaff.
  21. Was there last year and saw 3 or 4 Cs just in camping Bleu and Blanche alone.
  22. mmm...fix the leaking windscreen...forgot that
  23. I'd always thought that the C was front end Golf mk2 and rear end Passat mk3. Had a look in Wikipedia under Volkswagen Corrado and found this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Corrado which says Contrary to popular belief, the Corrado platform is not a hybrid built from A2 and B3 platform cars. The B3 rear axle (as was understood to be fitted to the Corrado) is a heavier duty item than the A2 / Corrado axle. This can be confirmed by the VW parts numbering system. But if you look up VW Corrado you get this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vw_corrado which says The Corrado used Volkswagen's B3 platform in the rear of the car, while using the A2 platform technology up front, which it shared with the then-current Golf Mk2 So which is it?
