1. And a very merry Christmas to you too, Redfox :) Mj
2. With lots of practise you should be ok on sheet metal, as has been said, thin rods and only low amps. Look into the molten metal (through the mask only, unless you want a hospital trip feeling like you want to claw your eyeballs out!) keep the rod moving and wiggle from side to side! The rod not you! ;) Practise lots before you go near the car, RSJs are good to practise on......turn up the amps and go for it!
3. Mk1 Scirocco even nicer?
4. There's a barn find on my drive then, I found it in Glasgow, unused for five years, all history, 96 VR6 with 75k on!
5. It's a long shot, but does anyone have Aqua blue front wings for sale, late shape and rust free? Mine have some rusting on the arch lip and a couple of carpark dings. So wondered if anyone had better ones they wanted to sell? Thanks, Mj
6. Not exactly sure, you may need to go to the dealer. We had a prob with our Lupo GTI, the brake light switch on the peddle broke and put the ECU into "get you home mode"!!! The local garage diagnosed it as this but were as puzzled as I was, as to why it should! So they said go to VW to get a second opinion. New switch fixed the prob. I suppose to be fair if the ECU thought there was a brake system fault.....???
7. I did mine not too long ago, was dead easy. Didn't touch the cat and had no probs at all. I could easy do one in an hour now. One plus point is the engine ran around 10 degrees cooler with the new pump.
8. Yes I was refunded by the seller but the ad states free postage not collection, after you buy they say free shipping is on orders of £500 or more. So why did they not ad shipping at checkout, and also the vat? Also ebay is an auction, if you have no reserve then the item sells at the highest bid. Or thats how it's supposed to be! I always sell even when the item only makes pennies, I always charge postage too. But then I like to be honourable. Edit. Just re checked the ad to make sure I'm not going stupid......It say's "Free standard delivery, Parcelforce 48 3to5 days"! Now that's not collection.......Is It?
9. That's the problem with Ebay, lots of idiots among the genuine people. I bought some wooden flooring last week, the seller refused to sell to me at the "buy it now" and free shipping that he advertised. Even though I already bought and paid through paypal. He demanded shipping and vat, almost doubled the price. I told him it was against the law to mislead in an advertised price. I reported him to Ebay.......they did nothing! His ad is still running and not changed. Ebay asked for feedback as to how they handled my complaint......I told them they were as much use as a tooth less dog.....all bark and no action!
10. The RTA in Oz allow you to have Euro style plates, you just pay a little extra for the pose factor. Im surprised the DVLA haven't thought of that one. https://www.myplates.com.au/design_a_plate/index.html?utm_source=myPlates_homepage&utm_medium=smallpromoL&utm_campaign=Turkey
11. At first glance I can see a couple of mistakes in the "Brief history of the Corrado". I think most would agree that the Corrado did not replace the Scirocco, they were built along side each other for around four years, also the Corrado was much more expensive. The Storm was not produced in Aqua blue, no mention of the green Storm either.
12. I used to race there quite a few years ago when I lived in north notts, a bit far to drive now but wouldn't rule it out.
13. Got it Jim, lets move on?
14. Well it did come across that way, and it wasn't only myself that thought it. No I don't have the link.
15. So every ones comments are welcomed except mine? Am I being too sensitive here? If people read my comments properly they will see that I have not been too critical. I stated that after joining it took rather a long time to receive communication, a process only speeded up by my "badgering" people, as I needed the number for insurance. Fact Three pms on the CCGB site asking for the number......two still show as unread! Fact CCGB site not working as regard who to contact, I reported this and it was fixed. Fact I stated that at £10 the club was good value, despite the problems. Fact I Gave all due credit to Eric (Tempest) Fact I also stated that members need to play their part by turning up for events etc. Fact As for needing my hand holding at events, never in a million years! I talk to anyone who wants to converse with me. And as for a "clique" or whatever anyone wants to describe it as, it happens and it happens in most clubs. Not just CCGB, I did say this! An example at Beaulieu was my wife and my self being invited into the cafe by members, all going for hot chocolate. We got our drinks, the others had taken all seating around one table, no worries, we sat at the adjoining table, never once did anyone turn around and involve us. Now I don't have that much of a problem with that, as I said in an earlier comment....just human nature, but don't tell me their is no "clique" or whatever you want to call it. Eric's analogy using a night club is very apt, but my experience of years of working in them is....people pay to get in, end up acting like a tw*t and get dragged out. Conversation and interaction never come into the equation! No Eric, I don't expect to be "feted like a lord" Jim, your closing line was you wanted to see the site and spend time with your "friends". Are new members friends you haven't got to know yet? And I don't mean myself, as has been written here others felt left out. I merely stated that I could see their point......difficult if you are inside. One thing that did anoy me though was your comment after the show, you asked if anyone fancied convoying down, I saw where you were from and told you the route that we were taking. Yep it was A and B roads. Although my roots are in drag racing, I enjoy turning the steering wheel now and again. A long motorway slog is just for commuters. Your comment about the journey down, that you put on here after the show was rude, ignorant and as a moderator unprofessional. I chose, at the time not to answer it, persuaded by my wife who also found it rude. After this I stayed away from this forum for a long while, as things have turned out, that was a jolly good idea. I thought all comments were welcome, I thought I was being constructive? It would seem not.
16. We had a similar experience at Beaulieu, chatted to a few people at first but people soon got into groups in the cafe, quite obvious there was no room for newbies! We had a laugh with the 2 german guys that were with Eric, they had very little English and I remembered more German than I thought possible, 10 or 12 words at least! They were having great fun trying to pass a cigarette paper between the belt tensioner and chassis rail on my mk1 rocco! As for British being reserved no more than any other nation, Aussies are much the same, some friendly, some not. Just human nature I suppose, herd animals. So you are not on your own Stone. I recently joined the Camaro owners Club, as I have a new (old?) toy coming from the states. So many friends requests on the forum, I can't keep up! I always like to quote Groucho marx: "I wouldnt care to be a member of any club that would have me!"
17. Possibly that is the case, but if they put a max weight on a jack, some nut might try and lift RSJ's and bits of buildings and stuff that weigh that ammount? Not that I know anyone that would ofcorse.............:bonk::thumbleft::dance::shrug:
18. As someone fairly new on the club/forum scene, I don't actually think there is too much "wrong". The running of CCGB is a little lax, to say the least as to new memberships, mags etc, but an active, willing club needs active, willing members too! The Corrado needs a club, and this forum. After all it is an "iconic" motor car? Also the £10 membership fee is nothing, I just would have liked my membership number quicker, via email? Can't be that difficult?
19. It will lift more than the weight stated, I'm sure manufacturers err on the side of caution. Correct me if I'm wrong but you wouldn't lift the whole cars weight in one go?
20. http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/ctj1250a-11-4-tonne-aluminium-trolley-jack
21. We could get Harry Hill to have a "fight" between the different jacks! :)
22. I had the same problem with the Halfords jack.......trying to jack up and the jack just going down! The last time it let me down (Every pun intended) was a real bad situation, a ramp had slipped on the transporter with the car on it! No probs so far with the Clarke racing jack. Oh and being ex RAC recovery technician, I kinda know what I'm doing.........mostly lol
23. Never seen an issue to read that though Jim. Pehaps if someone writes something of interest on here they could be asked if they would like to write an article? I did see Kip do this once.
24. My halfords jack was crap....gave it away on freecycle! Machine mart have a fab trolley jack for lowered cars at around £80, light and strong. Also vat free for the next week or so!
