1. OK so I've taken a couple of minutes to start some kind of log but as usual there just isn't enough hours in the day... So the story begins with me running around in a '88 W124 Mercedes 250TD (Touring Diesel, NOT Turbo) that has served me very well over the last few years but now needs a little welding to one wheel arch and a complete re-spray. No problem me thinks but after getting some quotes of £1500! to paint my trusty bus I've since decided to buy a second hand compressor and paint it myself :bonk: Now I hate rushing about late on Sunday nights trying to get the car put back together for Monday morning so somehow I persuaded my lovely wife that what I needed was a second car, maybe something fun like an old gti but it had to be cheap. I've always liked the corrado and its the vw I've never had after having just about every Mk of golf and a couple of polos and a scirroco, and after a quick look on gumtree there seemed to be more than a few to choose from and for not a lot of money. (yes you get what you pay for) So to cut it short most of the cars I looked at were either beyond repair or had just been painted (not always a good thing) and all of them had been lowered with all the tell tale signs of crunching over speed bumps and kerbs. However I came across the car I have now, it's got all the rust in the usual places, everything works, 157K miles on the clock and some after market side skirts that aren't to my taste and as it was the most honest car I came across a cheeky offer was made and the car was mine... This was back in June and so far this is what has been done, learning all the way... 1: engine mounts (desperately needed done) 2: wishbone rubbers and ARB links 3: Ball joints and track rod ends 4: water pump 5: 2nd week the door handle failed (thanks to Daves16v for the kit :thumbleft:) 6: new front tyres (went with toyo... fantastic tyre) However the list of what needs done is much much longer and over time I'll try and take as many pictures as I can, this is supposed to be the second car after all ..... 2. Thanks for the info, I'll give euro a call. Cheers
3. Anyhow, where are the pictures!!! We don't even know what colour it is??? :D
4. Sounds like you just need a good service. Who the hell just replaces a couple of leads??? sheesh...:bonk:
5. Hello, I too have just come accross some problems with my 16v. If you can get it VAG-COM scanned it should tell you whats wrong. It's not easy trying to get the car to talk to the laptop but if you need any help I can try and point you in the right direction. Its all new to me also but so far i've found i have 3 faulty sensors that point to the bad idle and poor fuel economy. Just a thought but is it hard to start once warmed up?
6. What the ..... I'm getting 19-20 and mine is only a little 16v???? Just found out i have 3 faulty sensors so I guess that's the problem, oxygen sensor, knock sensor and air mass sensor are all shot. Anyone know where to get these?
7. Count me in... if the old girl passes the MOT? Still running like a bag of spanners just now but i'll try and make it along.
8. Got some bits off that scrap car but the heater controls had been smashed by some monkey trying to get the clocks out, sorry. To make you feel better i recently done my wifes lupo timing belt and managed to get it one tooth out... oops...
9. Some nice pictures there, glad i could help but sorry we were late. Look forward to the next meet... hopefully next time i'll not need pushed :D
10. Ouch... not too bad then. You're just ahead of me on 169k so good luck with that. It's all good fun but, and all we can hope for is "that" one day when everything is working and nothing needs done... one day... one day...
11. Instead of show and shine we could do the opposite, extra points for the most rusty and highest millage. I'd win all day probably... When you say crash Alex are we talking wee crash or total re-build here?
12. This still going ahead? Umbrellas at the ready...
13. I'm heading off to get a wing from a scrap corrado i know of, if its still got the unit i'll let you know but i think all the good bits have long since gone.
14. Welcome, very tidy pair of wheels you have there. I also bought a 160000 mile car and so far its been as expected, late nights in the garage and learning all the way. Still its all good fun and if you need any help then this is the place to be.
15. I too have been looking but getting a stainless one is a no go i think unless your car is left hand drive. Ashley do a mild steel but i don't know who would stock or supply one?
16. No problem, sounds like a good turnout so far. Got both connections for the cable here and i don't mind helping out. Look forward to seeing what a good corrado looks like and sharing some knowledge.
17. My car is the same however if i pull the speed knob off a bit (oh err) i get all 4 speeds?
18. All easy jobs there, coolant flush involves removing the bottom pipe from the radiator but I'd check the condition of your water pump if you're going to all the effort of changing coolant. Power steering is much the same, remove the pipe at the pump and turn the wheel back and forth. DO NOT run the engine with no fluid in the pump. The brake fluid is only easy if you invest in the right kit. Look online for the eezibleed kit and you'll be sorted. It can also be found in halfords but you'll pay top price. Hope you get it sorted... F.Y.I. I used citroen lhm fluid (mineral) for my power steering, if your level is low good chance your pump may be goosed. Is your steering over assisted? ie very light.
19. I loved it when the vw show used to be there, its just not the same now its in biggar... ---------- Post added at 09:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 PM ---------- I'll be there, just up the road for me. I can bring a laptop and cable if you still need it so just let me know. Also i'd like to ask a good friend to come along in his mk2 scirocco if thats ok? It's the most original scirocco in the uk i think, still has its factory brake pipes and ball joints!
20. Welcome, from gretna you say? I'm from the Dumfries area myself. Always wanted a grey corrado so pictures please and if you could post a picture of the mk1 that would be great.
21. Hello, nice car there. Wish mine looked half as clean. If your looking for a vag cable i've got one here if you need it but at only £8 off ebay they're easy to get. I did end up buying an adaptor as mine had the 2x2 conection and not the big vag one. If your unsure what one you need just pull the trim around the gear stick up and have a look. Happy corradoing....
22. Cheers guys, sand blasting I could do but polishing would be a nightmare once blasted. I'll pick away at them if i get the time, the water pump is making a dodgy noise so the wheels can wait.
23. Hello, nice charger. So many Scottish owners on here i just canny believe it.
24. Hello, first thing to do is enjoy it. Then on the following day get under it and have a really good look at how the years have treated your car. Then if you've got any questions return to here where a lot of peeps are more than happy to help you with your new/old car. :D I've thought about the KR swap but what are the advantages? More power at lower or higher revs?
25. Right o, any help would be great... Anyhow, this is what I'm looking at... The paint is coming off with a little heat so I might be able to skip the painting but the lacquer needs removed so I can polish the shiny bits. :D
