I've got epoxy mastic for mine. Only done the rear axle so far and it's not seen the road so can't comment on how well it'll last, but the reviews I'd read were good and they do a lot of off road vehicles with it. https://www.rust.co.uk/ It's the EM121 stuff

Aqua blue 16v - N*** FNK in Harris motors, Nomansland, Devon. Never thought I'd see one in these parts and so close to me! :thumbleft:
-
I had a set of Proxes on an old Mk3 Golf, and didn't think they were that bad. Only thing with them is that it's a very soft compound, and they were down to the wear limit after 8k miles!
-
Very true, though VW just fob you off and tell you that their records only go back to 2000 when they were digitised..... 95 - 96 year model, scared cat looking ride height, and yellow dipstick suggests its likely to be a Storm though. I had to get a Zertifikat from the Wolfberg Museum to confirm mine (or confirm not as was my case).
-
Don't forget the centre bore either. Though you can get adaptor rings if they're bigger, standard is 57.1. you'd have to get them bored out if smaller.
-
Not touched it in about a year. :( House should be finished by the end of summer though so plan for now is to start back on it over winter. I don't have a huge amount of parts to get, so it's just time to do it all. Here's to hoping anyway!
-
Good stuff Rob. Glad you (fingers crossed) have sorted it, you've been plagued by intermittent idle and cutting out issues for a good few years now haven't you!? I'll definitely have to check out Resto Shack. It's actually quite close, and the quickest way to get there is through the country roads so would be a nice little trip down - if I ever get the car back on the road!
-
Yeah I sold them over winter. I don't think they're particularly rare, kind of middle ground I think. The 16" in 5 stud are quite rare I reckon. More in 4 stud from the Polo 6n2, but though I've never really searched thats the first set of 16s in 5 stud that I've seen. The 17s do come up every so often on ebay though. They're RX 228 if you search for them.

Wow, now theres a chufty, Thanks mate! :thumbleft:
-
Nope, they were absolutely perfect. As mentioned, I was as low as about 40mm at one point, didn't have rolled arches and even went to shows with the kids in the back as well as a boot full, and never once had them rub. Same at the front even with full lock on. :thumbleft:
-
Awww, the RXs are amazing! I had 17” with the same offset as that (35) and 7.5” wide. I had zero rubbing even when approx 40mm lowered. Perfect offset for 7.5” width, but can’t be sure on 7. Loads of pics in the later pages of my gallery linked in my sig below

Ah but the VSR was designed to be on the VR6 as standard and as such, you don't need to remove it to replace the spark plugs like you do the Schrick! Granted, its not particularly difficult to do but thats a poor design feature in my opinion.
-
Every VSR I'd seen until the last couple of years has been around the £1200 mark.
-
Look at classic policies. Not sure you'd get below what you already have but you'll get far more options. As long as you declare all mods, are over 25 and keep limited mileage below 6k, benchmark is around £200 with guaranteed value. Don't bother with comparison sites, it's just seen as an old, high performance/modified car.
-
Schricks went for between £6-900 around 5 years ago. That was WVM VSR money at the time!

Recently bought a newish car to replace my old Polo

Did you consider the Skoda Fabia? I think Skoda build quality & interior refinement are either on par or exceed VW. Exterior styling is pretty good, and depreciation is though not quite as good as VW, but seems to be better than Seat. -
I haven't done a search Rob, but from memory there are two types (early & late iirc). One of them is a direct fit, the other needs a little cutting to make fit as it interferes with the wiper motor.

A 1991 Vauxhall Gashtra Duo. It was beige and the duo was because it was the height of safety having two airbags.... Had it for 9 months before it failed the MOT on brake lines, so I chopped it in for an 03 Saab 9-3 SS, 2.0t Vector sport. Ok it had GM/Vauxhall underpinnings, but I loved that car and was such a step up in terms of comfort and spec. I even bought another a few years later but in diesel guise. Missus killed that one by putting petrol in it twice in the space of two weeks though! :bonk:

Debate - what makes a Storm a better car than a normal VR?
seanl82 replied to fendervg's topic in General Car Chat
They are pretty rare in all honesty. I've probably only seen 3 for sale in the last 5 years or so. A few more shricks but thats not the same. I've never seen a Campaign for sale, or even seen one in the flesh. A true unicorn car that. -

Campaigns are more rare than a VWM VSR though. -

You mean like LC5M - moonlight blue that was available. -

These are the opinions of those that know the car though. The reason they're sought after is because those that aren't so "in the know", see them as a limited edition. The fact there are only 250 in each colour (or more in classic green (including mine!)) means they are "rare", thus worth more. True, they're not to everyone's colour taste, and green splits opinion but I love it. More than any other green actually. But I think there are better colours out there, and I think aqua blue is far better than mystic personally. Remember you could spec a storm with everything available to the others aside from wheels and recaros. The only things left really were the VDO gauges and aircon! Aircon was added by dealerships, none of the other wheel choices were much kop. What else is there really, a reiger body kit. You can keep it! Lol. -
17" wheels are perfectly fine, and give the best look. I've run 17s on a daily, and didn't think the ride was too harsh at all. I've gone back to OE now, but thats just through personal choice to get the car back near standard. With LMs, it depend what width and offset they make them in. The perfect size for a Corrado is 17x7.5, ET 35 which will give you absolutely no rubbing issues at all as long as you aren't mega low. Bear in mind that the 5x100 stud pattern coupled with the width and offset may be hard to find unless you buy them new. The tyres you'll need are 205x40 which will give a very slight stretch (almost no stretch on certain tyres depending on sidewall construction), which will keep you within the recommended rolling radius of the standard tyres (2.5% iirc), so the speedo won't be out of tolerance enough for it to be an issue. You can see my BBS RX228s from about half way through my gallery in the link in my sig, so you can get an idea about what they look like fitted. Heres a good example; http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?79984-Seanl82-s-ringer-Storm&p=1109450&viewfull=1#post1109450

Where are you meeting everyone Rob, I didn't see your name on the list on the CCGB? Gutted I'm not in a position to attend, and the route taken kind of loops all the way around me! If anyone going fancies a detour on the way home, take the A396 from Tiverton to Minehead. Its the first time I'd driven the road last weekend, and I was absolutely blown away. Incredible scenery, and phenomenal undulating and twisty roads that were an absolute joy to drive. I can't wait until my car is back on the road so I can drive it through there again! :thumbleft:
