Are they good at anything in particular?

The bead will probably still need breaking from the rim, and without stating the obvious, you will need to re-seal the joint when re-assembling.

Is there sealing gaskets between AC hose and the compressor?

Usually just an O ring. I would invest in a sniff test by an air con specialist if you are trying to find leaks. -
The hardest thing with RX 2's is removing the bolts without them either shearing or rounding off the splines on the heads. Make sure that the have the correct spline heads and some spares as they take a lot of stress and become worn during removal. Although they are split rims they are unlike RM's where you have to split the rim itself. RX's simply come apart in two, with the face plate coming detached from the single part rim. You can leave the tyres on and just get a tyre fitter to pop the beads on the tyres if you are going to polish or re-paint the rims yourself. I had my RX2's professionally re-furbed and diamond cut, but dismantled and re-assembeled the wheels myself. There was a cracking guide on the UK Polos Forum :)

It's worth checking the wheel bearings as one of mine decided to give up at the exact time that I changed my front tyres. It put me off the scent a bit :)

Was that an hour to do all of the under bonnet? This is a job which is currently top of my list.
-
Agreed but your condition can't be that common surely?

Perhaps a Dukes of Hazard style jump over the oncoming cars?

I thought that I would start this thread having seen the following this week. The weather was thick fog, the traffic was at crawling pace as it usually is at that time of the morning. So I couldn't understand why approx 20% of drivers had their fog lights on and they were also wearing sun glasses? Or am I missing something?

The later Passat handles differ slightly in appearance as they are slighly more rounded that the earlier ones. I am not sure if the internals are the same though.

Thanks. Any links to the seller please?

Anything really depending on condition. Have you a car in mind? -
Welcome. Are the wheels genuine BBS RM's?

I have the same problem as My PAS has a slight leak which I cannot trace at the moment. Do you know how many pipes are in the system and whether they are still available. Sorry to partially hijack your thread.

HIC, only downside is that I am limited to 2k miles. Their quote started at £180 but they came down to beat my renewal with Classic line.
-
If you opt for a Classic Car policy they usually include very comprehensive breakdown insurance cover. My current policy includes homestart, basic roadside repairs, breakdown and vehicle repatriation all for less than £140. I have yet to use it and hopefully never will :)

Twilight? VR on early Golf VR6 wheels parked in Hambledon yesterday.

You have put the colour as Stain Silver :)

The brake upgrade is a great option. Don't waste your money on EBC pads and discs like I did :(
-
Perhaps they a generic VAG VR6 part which you could get from a Breakers?
-
I have just invested in some double ear clamps from a local hydraulic hose specialist which look very OE and shiney too.
-
I can vouch for the Meg's stuff. It worked a treat on my old Fabia's white seats.

A general purpose carpet cleaner specifically for machines will do the trick. It's only a few £'s.

Cheers Sean. I think that the leak is from the higher part of the system. I'll take a better look when I get five minutes to spare. After a good clean my ISV is now working perfectly. I'll return yours next week.
-
Sean, in all my excitement yesterday I should have checked where the PAS pipe were routed on yours without the engine in. Any chance of a couple of pics to assist me in the search for my leak? Cheers.
