Why can these things never be easy hey?! Well I have now emailed the sales address as well so will wait and see. Cant hurt to ask some questions if I ever hear back. Kev, regarding the 2.8 cast manifolds, I read somehwere they are slightly smaller than the mk5 R32 ones, is this true, they do appear to at least be a different shape, haven't measured them as yet, would I need to open them out slightly or is it negligible?
-
That is reassuring to hear, I guess it is possible they have tweeked the design as time has gone on. Still no word back so may hassle the guys at the phirm again. I'm in exactly the same position Sean, need a bolt on solution due to being unable to trailer mine.
-
Ok, with a bit of digging on VR6 owners forum, United Motorsport seem to be present on there and on their Sig It appears that their sole distributor or dealer is a company called 'the phirm', these I've heard about before. Called them and they said that the owner apparently works on US time due to the bulk of his work being in the states, which they explained is why they can be a nightmare to get hold of at time(read all the time). So he is going try and contact him and get back to me. I take on board what Kev has said though, so am possibly expecting to do a bit of work to get it perfect. still have an original corrado DP so can use flange off that if it isn't up to scratch. I'm right in thinking the UM one requires the 2.8 24v cast manifolds yeah? Fingers crossed I hear back from them, but if anyone knows of another option by all means let me know. Cheers, Max,

Bloody hell. This downpipe was in my mind at least one of the easy bits, proving to be a bloody headache now as I can't think of any more off the shelf alternatives. Thanks for the heads up kev, appears neither this or the dub power one was as fit and forget as first hoped. I guess I can get it running interior in then once done get it trailored to somewhere like infinity to get a custom one, but they wanted nearly £600. Pain in the arse!
-
Right, not quite as straight forward as I first thought. Goldie:- phone heritage and althey said they didn't do them. Did you just get golf ones, are they the same. Same with power steering shop, said he'd never done a set for a corrado so am I right in thinking they are identical to the Golf set up, all pipe lengths etc?? Cheers. Max,

Leaking Radiator on Vr6 Engine / Replacement Advise Please
Bs6VR6 replied to Ray1965's topic in Engine Bay
Just to add my experience, ordered one of the hella radiators from the first link, and it arrived about 3 days later, looks the buisness, have trial fitted it and looks to fit perfectly. Oh and with regard the bolts holding the subframe in, I wouldn't trust the two smaller bolts, just in case. -
Just a quick one, does anyone know of any way of contacting these guys. Called untold times and only ever get an answer machine or hold system. Emailed them with no response, doesn't instil confidence at giving them your money! Basically need to get the 24v conversion down pipe ordered. Does anyone know of an alternative if they no longer trade, bar making a custom one? Cheers, Max,

Chris, sorry if that message came across sarky mate, wasn't intended as such. No that's sound, work it all out and let me know. It's just occurred to me what a mongrel my car is going to be, lol
-
Goldie:- Star, pm me over a price boss and figure out how much postage will be, let me know and I'll ping the money over. Baz:- yes mate, got you message last night and have sent a reply, probably be beginning of next week if that's alright with you squire? Chris:- No PM mate, not sure if its got lost in the abyss or not, actually whilst I'm badgering you for parts whats the itinerary saying on front lights and fogs, thinking mine are looking a tad tatty? Cheers all,
-
Think I know who will be getting a call tomorrow......

Thanks for the response guys, just to clarify, Goldie, are these new from VW, and is this for everything, metal pipes, rubbers the works? Stu, if the above is only for the metal pipes,(although I cant see how as they are press fit??) then to be honest Id be more than happy to get a set like yourself, is this everything, from rack to fluid bottle, through the pipe in the bumper and back to pump yeah? You happy with the quality, £130 sounds like a bargain and the removal of a large headache. Result. Hopefully. Thanks in advance, Max,
-
Right sorry for the delay chaps, Goldie, if you have them then Ill snap them up, as long as there in good condition or better, its the ones that run around the door and press onto the chassis themselves,I've got all the actual door rubbers etc. Let me know what you want and as long as your happy with bank transfer jobs a good-un. Chris, sound mate, to the rescue again, is it the complete assembly plus the actual sunroof you have yeah, pm me a price boss and we can work out postage etc. Baz, will do if thats alright mate, ill message you start of the week and sort out when were both free, ill bring some redies as there are a few odds ands sods I need, just silly bits and I'm sure you said you had a little nest of stuff, lol. Thanks again chaps. Max,

Hey all, Just tried searching and not a lot came up to be honest so thought I'd ask here. I am in the process for putting the engine bay back together, and having either refurbed or replaced almost every item I cant bear to put my old PAS pipes on. Now when I removed them I kept the original metal pipes but cut the rubber hose off and had planned to take them to pertek to remake. Now I'm struggling to remember which went where and the lengths of hose needed, has anyone got an old set they don't need(obviously give me price for what you want+ postage), condition is irrelevant as it is purely to be used as a template as such. or a photo of there set with measurements for rubber lenghts(more than happy to bung you a few beer tokens for your time, as I have the original metal pipes) Has anyone done this before? How much did it cost you? Or does anyone know a cheaper/easier way to redo them. Thanks again, in advance, Max,
-
Bristol mate, and yourself? Can collect if not to far, but postage shouldn't be too dramatic should it?
-
Hey guys, few more bits I'm after, things have started to move toward interior now, which is good, if you have any bits or know where I might be able to get them, speak now....:thumbleft: Passenger door loom Many interior screws, someone must have a nice box of them somewhere. Door and tailgate rubbers, the ones that attach to the chassis itself. Working sunroof frame and sunroof And a long shot I know but.... Polo housing for mk4 gearshift mod, complete set if possible. brake fluid reservoir to fit mk2 golf(22mm non abs master cylinder) with one port out for clutch master cylinder. thermostat sandwich plate for mocal oil cooler(worth an ask) Thanks in advance, cash waiting, cheers. Max,
-
Yeah, just ordered a new hella one, should be arriving tomorrow. Does that mean those brackets would be suitable?
-
Thanks for getting back guys. I'll clarify a few things, yes primarily getting the mocal due to the standard set up fouling on the front mount. I am running the Audi 3.2 engine, although engine bay asthetics do play a part. Think I may of sorted a kit, if it doesn't come with a thermostat shall I just purchase one directly from mocal. Still unsure as I have the mk5/TT set up what bits I keep and what I can discard, anyone fitted a mocal during their 24v conversion and what did they use? Sorry if I'm being thick just want to ensure I've got the right stuff! Fan wise, if you(Chris) or anyone else knows of some brackets going I'll snap them up, would this then allow me to use the duel 11/9 spall set up yeah? That works perfectly for me? I had read from a Few sources that the one 11 was fine but I've had a turbulent past when it comes to corrados and overheating issues so for my own sanity more fans can only be encouraged😁! Thanks, Max

Is that the better option do you reckon? Ordered a new hella radiator today, how would I go about securing them, the generic fitting kit or do you use the brackets? Cheers chris

Hey, justt a quick one, need to get my Mocal oil cooler setup ordered and want to order a slimline fan set up at the same time, but cant find a definitive list of what parts I need? Mocal oil cooler:- I have an Audi 3.2 lump, with the standard oil/water exchange set up, what do i need to order from mocal? Would like to remove as much of standard set up as possible and just run the mocal and bypass water exchange, is this feasible? What do i maintain? I assume a 16 row 235mm size radiator will suffice and want to run it with a stat sandwich plate, but the internal tubes etc I'm not clear on, anyone already fitted one, what did you use? Slimline fans:- Either Spal or Revotec, was going to run just one single 12", I take it this is adequate? How do I go about fixing it, with there generic fitting kits or do I need a set of brackets as in the ones from the recent group buy? itching to get it all ordered so help please. Max,

I'll take the mocal and associated gubbins, would you take £90, money sat here, ready to go?

Right, been a bloody age since I did any progress report on the car but as you lot have been so helpful and I'm feeling quite positive and motivated about the whole thing thought id put a few pics up. Apologies for the crap quality, camera phone. Basically, sound deadening is now finished, got a little carried away, and ended up doing more than I originally planned but hoping the end result will be a far quiter cabin(although having read Kevs comments I am now slightly worried it may of been a lot of hassle and expense for not a lot of gain, but alas, its done now) almost 100% on floor, bulkhead, done the roof sections and behind rear quaters, as yet deciding how to tackle doors. Rear beam all done, will post some pics up later but new powerflex bushes, all new copper brake lines front to back running through brake bias valve fixed to bulkhead in place of original ABS pump. new rear wheel bearings, top mounts, re-used my old coilovers, they were only a year old and loved how they felt, plus skint so needs must. Fuel tank back on, new powdercoated straps(thanks vag-hag). Tailgate back on, still got to re thread tailgate loom(I know I'm a prat for removing it, more speed, less haste and all that), most of teh interior looms are now in place just need testing, wrapping and then new carpet and seats can go back in. Front subframe cleaned(wire brush and many hours) Painted, new wishbones, new everything, ball joints, track rods and ends, wheel bearings, top mounts, bearings the whole lot, all VW original(robbing *******s, lol) Audi Lump mounted to box and fitted, driveshafts cleaned and painted and connected up, steering rack was painted, new boots fitted and back on, steering coloumn also now connected. All Abs deleted, new mk2 servo(well breakers) but new 22mm master cylinder fitted Sorry gotta head out, to be continued....
-
And this sir, is a perfect example of where we differ in our approaches, lol, not something I would of even considered. Maybe its a question of when you've been playing with cars for a while you start to need to do more to stretch yourself, the initial thrill of just swapping an engine or a brake set up begins to seem mundane. This is only the first real project I've ever undertaken, I'm sure once its all up and running my mind will start to wander onto the next mod, but for now just the thought of having that beautiful engine purring away makes me feel a little giddy:dance:
-
Welcome mate, there's no going back now, it'll be a roller-coaster ride I'm sure, but like many others I wouldn't have it any other way. Something about these cars that just gets under your skin....
-
Mk3Highline:- There is indeed, that's all supported by the K6. Maybe its from only ever owning carbed mk2 golfs before the Rado but I find a lot of the MFA stuff superfluous, again, huge respect to those who have done it oem, more so for the odd few who have essentially grafted mk4 wiring into an 80's designed VW, but for me I'm not really bothered about those, If she starts, runs, pulls like a train and pulls your eyes out under braking Ill be grinning from ear to ear.I mean most of it never really worked on the car before I took it off the road so I'm not missing much. I still consider electric windows decadent, lol! Kev:- Yeah, like I said above, respect the effort and technical ability you guys have, but I'm not nearly so diserning, I just love driving, if the engine runs well and the brakes work good and the chassis sorted, Ill be happier than a pig in ****. I mean Karting is one of the most enjoyable things you can do on four wheels, and it doesnt get any simpler than that, I just want a bigger 3.2 litre go kart, with heaters and a nice stereo:dance: Kip(and others):- I am afraid to say Ive bottled it, I am going to concentrate my time on the interior looms, and mechanicals, just don't think my wiring/electrical ability is there yet, and I've just had a long chat with that Richard guy and he has agreed to do the lot for what I consider a very reasonable price. I am going to send him the audi engine loom, the three looms feeding to F, G1, G2 plus all the original corrado engine loom and hes going to send me back a plug and play loom, all wrapped in nylon braid and labeled ready to fit. Hes worked closely with emerald for over 6 years and has just sent me a few photos of previous looms hes made and they look fantastic. He will be using the original loom as kev suggested ( the fly loom he talked about is merely the emerald plug with long tails used to extend the factory loom and as mine has been cut this solves that issue.) Feels like a big weights been lifted, I can now concentrate on the mechanicals. Sorry for the long post, and once again, you guys are awesome, really appreciate the time. Max,m

Kip your a star, I've got the day off today so am gunna get the corrado fuse to engine bay loom, the Audi engine harness lay them out on the front room and get going with it. Do you know where I can find wiring info for the Audi loom(ignore that, only on my first cup of tea so still warming up, can see youve answered this now I properly read your post:bonk:) and as stated above can you confirm the fact the engine loom has been chopped is not a real issue bar extending the wires? Thanks again everyone for your help, feeling far more positive about the wiring now. Max
