hello mate, a lot of young people that i know with all sorts of cars have got Tesco insurance believe it or not! i have been quoted far less for both my cars than anyone else so they are worth a try. they are trying to attract younger drivers in the bid to keep their custom as we all get older so they offer good rates at the mo. they are ok for mods as well cos i have a mk7 Escort  (i know, its all i have been able to afford as a student) with alloys, K&N, GTI body kit etc.... and they cover it all under 1 category of 250 to 1000 pounds worth of modifications!! that means you can spend up to a grand generally at no extra cost as long as its not masses of performance gains!! my G60 as a LHD with estimated average of 8,000 miles a year would come in at 670 TPFT.....saying that i am 23 with 5 years NCB and NO points on my license so that can be expected really!! give em a go cos i know they are good with other friends who are 18 no NCB etc.

In 'Old Skool' terms he means a Front Splitter. its generally the older generations that still call them that these days tho!

TONIGHT 10/11/03 saw a G reg corrado, possibly grey 16V? fly past in the other direction on the Gorseinon bypass road in Swansea between Sommerfields, the Cockle Shell pub and the Valeo factory at 18:55. then saw a metallic dark Blue VR6 reg: L...LGW in the fforesffach tesco carpark pass me at 19:05 and then again parked in the Fitness Studio carpark at 20:00... spotted as i was going round the roundabout! Anyone???

great idea this! there are a lot of things to look for to get a good c and im sure there will be a lot of appreciative people out there! i don't get the bonnet cross sections bit tho so perhaps that needs to be made clearer or have an explanation with it? replacement headlight glass is 22.50+VAT from Euro Parts for both early and late models.

looks like cheesy has a set on his rado. take a look at the memberlist, he might be able to help you out!

Supercharged, cheers for that, i was thinking the same about the chassis but i didn't know about the driver counter balance thing!!! they think of everything don't they! the build is great on it, no rattles and its really solid evan after the life its had and its got a/c and leccy everything except seats. its even got the original Corrado floor mats so the carpet is pristine underneath! already onto the registration thing: basically all i need is the old registration documents, an MOT certificate, tax & insurance. cos the car is over 10 years old it doesn't need an SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) by the DVLA. it may need to be inspected by them but thats not too much of a prob seing as its here in Swansea! can't register it as a new car in GB all you do is register it under the category of Person Import (PI). as said eariler hopefully getting the MOT done this week if i get time!
-
no, i havn't got a problem with the LHD thing so thats the plan. getting it MOT'd this week hopefully for it to be registered. don't know what other work will need doing to is as well. just graduated and will hav the money to sort the car out b4 long tho. will have to keep the progress posted! thanks

anyone got any idea how to undo the pulley bolt on the G60 lump? just something to do cos i am bored and its completely knackered cos the baring had cracked through the outer casing when the belt belt shred! i just want a look at how catastrophic the damage is!!
-
that was my plan, keep it as a leftie! yeah its pink alright! trouble is a couple of the panels are flash red instead of Tornado red cos the car was keyed really badly and the idiot insurance company in the middle east sprayed them the wrong colour but by that time i didnt know till it arrived in california cos i left the country before the car! so really it does need a re-spray. someone keyed both the doors again as well  other thing, its going to cost at least a grand for a scrapyard charger and rebuild. am i just better off getting a new one or an alternative? which is better: G60, Eaton or Screw compressor? i have seen a nice screw compressor by BBM thats 1500 quid brand new! sounds the dogs bo**ocks too!

i am new here so hello everyone! i think i have done this the wrong way round cos i joined and have made my contribution but forgot to introduce myself! anyway here is my story all about my rado. its a bit of a long one but i wrote this to PVW and it got published in thier August 02 mag. i would appreciate your opinion on my situation! PVW, It’s a bit of a long story but, I own a Red 91’ Corrado G60 ( Looks the same as the one in the June 02 issue of PVW, Corrado Thrash ) . I bought it in 1998 when living in Dubai in the Middle East. The car dealer that I bought it from purchased it in Japan and then shipped it to Dubai with a slipping clutch so I managed to buy it for peanuts. Since then I have moved back to the UK and my parents have moved to California USA and taken the car with them. Because of the strict import laws over there they said it could only be in the country for 12 months so after that, it again went on a voyage across the sea and now sits in my garage here in the UK. It has no service history because of the way it’s travelled but since it’s been back I have managed to track down that it was originally intended for the German market. Its LHD and has only done 101,000 Km, the bodywork is perfect in terms of corrosion but has a lot of sun damage to the paint due to the intense heat it has had. It has been sitting in my garage unregistered with no MOT and the charger blew in America with the bearing going through the top of the outer casing and a hole appearing in the bottom as well (have removed it from engine bay to take a look). I had all the other belts changed while it was in America and had no idea about the drive belt, which had consequentially shred to pieces. After removing the charger and doing some DIY pipe work we found that the car will run fine without the charger (but obviously slower). My dilemma now is what to do with it? In brief it needs a re spray, the suspension needs work and the charger ist kaput! I was thinking about converting it to RHD but don’t know how much it would set me back? (that’s without sorting the charger). I have been told by VW that it basically needs the majority of the front end changing, is this true? The other thing that I could do is keep it LHD sort the mechanical probs out ie charger and shocks, and then get it registered and drive it as it is while saving for a paint job. Where could I get a reconditioned charger from and how much would that cost? How much would a paint job usually cost on average for a car of its size (same colour so internals wouldn’t need doing)? How much does it cost to register the car in the UK and would it be possible because of the new import laws (its been in the country for about 10 months). I love the car to bits and really don’t want to get rid of it but at the moment the only thing that I can think of is to sell it for parts. Please help me by giving your honest opinion on the best route to take and any contacts that you think would be useful if you think its possible to rescue it. Sorry for so many questions but apart from VAG, whom I can’t get much sense out of, you seem to be the Mecca of all things VW! Alex, Swansea they replied: 'tow it to a scrappy and hope you get 50 quid for it!' so my reply to that would be F**k Off! what does everyone else think??

as a proper car crazed know it all i think that you will find that its actually a Shelby Mustang GT500. its actually a limited edition that never existed in production during its era.. till last year. everyone loved it so much a company decided to turn a limited number of mustangs into these look alikes. the only reason i know all this is cos i read it in Top Marques when visiting my rents in California last xmas.

i have used Auto Glym Instant Tar Remover on a few sets of side strips of cars that i have had. works a treat
-
i dont think the clunking is on each revolution. it seemed to be only at low speed more than anything and when i turn the wheel. the last time i had the wheels off i noticed that the screws that hold the discs onto the hub have sheared off. would that make a difference?? i wouldn't have thought so cos they are held tight when the wheels are on.

not to be a kiiljoy or anything but leather dashes sound nice as do the parcel shelves but give it a couple of years and there will be more cracks in it than house with subsidance! thats from sun/heat damage. my dad did that to a Lotus he had a while back..... not worth the money. get a black vinyl one second hand cos they are a bargain from VW at 975+VAT!!!
-
does anyone know if fire extinguisers were standard or an option in european models too cos i have a bracket for one in the footwell of my leftie?
-
Sh*t that is a bad week! i hope you are right on the things come in 3's theory for your own sake! i'd garage the rado for the week just in case!
-
can't drive the car on the road it isnt UK registered yet so thats the first problem with testing theory and would a bad sensor cause that clunking noise in the footwell and the break pedal movement? just seeing if i can fix probs before taking it for the MOT ehile i have time on my hands!
-
yeah it is, so i have heard. mine was done by a chap while i had the car in Dubai.... but thats not much help to you! if you havn't got VAGFSH get the clutch from a motorfactors its about 100 ish quid for the whole lot and then find someone to do it for you. you have to drop the whole box to sort it. they broke the speedo sender unit on mine tho at some point so i ended up having to drive round for a couple of weeks without a speedo cos the part had to be shipped to the VW dealer in Dubai first! obviously the gargage paid for that! good job the police there dont care bout speeding!
-
Please help! my ABS light is coming on, at first it was occasionally and now it is permanently on. when i drive the car there is a funny 'cer-clunk cer-clunk' noise coming from the footwell and it feel as if the break pedal is moving slightly at the same time i hear noise! does anyone know what it is and how it can be fixed? cheers
-
thats the approach that i have taken. my old mk4 escort did it from the day that i had it with approx 105k on the clock. sold it with 133k, it was still doing it but never went in nearly 30k. if it aint broke don't fix it!
-
steveo, dont know if its any help but have got a mk7 Escort  and had an old mk4   and had the exact same prob with the two of them. with the escorts it the thrust bearing thats worn and judders on pulling off but not all the time, generally when its cold and damp.... which is most the time here in Wales! clutch makes a creaking noise sometimes as well. same story tho, no probs in summer or when driven regularly, its only when parked up for a bit! saying that fords are crap and not really comparable to the c. don't knw much bout rado clutches cos mines had a new one bout 40k Kms back as bought the car with a slipping one! Alex

sh*t i don't know where you are getting that quote from, must be a massive package?? i had my whole corrado shipped from California 2 years ago and it cost less than 800 quid! i have also had a PC shipped las year with Fed Ex 3 day delivery for 165 quid! suggest you do some shopping round if you want to get things from the states, its far cheaper than you think! Alex

Furki's right about that they are about 33 quid from Euro Parts
-
cheers guys, the handle is the right one then cos theres no lip around the lock. the new handle wouldnt take the old lock though when i pulled them both appart cs there was a missmatched groove or something, cant remember now. the lock barrel is in ok though it went back in with nothing changed to when i took it out. bit puzzling then!

hi jim, the wiring loom fits the plug half way down the door fine, but when i got it i didn't check whether it was an early or late one. saying that i did buy it from VW, unless they made the mistake...they were the only suppliers of VW parts in Dubai! car was bought there but its garaged at the mo, trying to get it registered and on the UK roads now that i can afford it. would the handle type explain why i couldnt change the barrel of the old handle to the new one so i dont have to use a different key? car doesnt have an alarm yet but thats certainly a 1st on the agenda of things to do! Alex
