For a corrado.. Porsche 3 splits without a shadow of a doubt! 8)

Hey all.. Sorry for the delay.. I can't access the forum at work, one down side, but I'm back home now :) I work as a media and marketing manager there. Basically I look after all the AV gear, compile content for the plasma's and look after the driving experience DVD's for the media side of the job.. thats prob 40% of my day. Then I do 60% marketing. Small team of 4 and we basically do everything to market the place. Just starting a massive project, which will be an event of some sort in June, can't really say any more than that for the time being. Amazing job, very lucky to land such a position and although I'm only 3 weeks in I can see myself being there for a while to come :) Even though I'm still a dub head at heart, I suppose they are still german cars so its all good :) I'm driving a C55 AMG tomorrow around the tracks. Looking forward to that so much. Wonder how it will feel performance wise to the corrado ? Anyway I'm going to try and get a discount for you guys for the driving experiences, will let you know.. need to schmoooze with a few people to make that happen. We are in the process of trying to get SLR rides around the track - would this interest people, for say 20 to 30 quid for a quick blast in one of the fastest production cars in the world? (please let me know as its my idea!?) Anyway will let you guys know how a C55 AMG feels going sideways!! :) Ben

Well I tell a lie, I'm not on it but the company I work for is.. MBW.. Mercedes-Benz World, I've been there for just over 2 weeks and on my first week I had to assist 5th gear for the filming of the new ML AMG around our tracks... check it out.. you'll prob see a bit of the amazing building that I'm very lucky to be working in.. I'm going to go against the grain a little here.. I like porkers but there not my first choice! Don't get me wrong they look cool but I'm one of these people who likes to be a bit different. I need a car that not many others have.. thus the corrado.. not many around and well mine isn't exactly standard. Porkers.. well there are so damn many around the south east, you grow tired of them. If I had one I dare say it wouldn't be long before I pulled it to bits and changed it.. hehe :)

yeah your right. he said if after he gets the car back on the road (going through a couple of changes) and he can't get the time down on the 1/4 he will be buying a dog box for his haldex setup... only way really to knock another 1/2 second off.. Nah, I've had a set of rallye, vr6 and tdi gears on the bench and the gears are no different - strength wise that is - they are the same thickness and layout for sure. Only difference is the ratios. But I don't know about 1.4 to 2.0L gearboxs.. ??? ben

because Karls mk2 is half a second slower on the 1/4 since he went from the quaife dog box to an 02M. can't change gear as quick. may sound like nothing, but half a second is a good few car lengths at 110mph. hey Paul.. yeah in all honesty I was just pointing out the strength vs money side of things. You are quite right, you cannot beat a dog box for speedy gear changes! No doubt in my mind if I had 4k spare I would go dog 02m, for sure.. but money is tight so 02m is the best I can afford.. But you are right.. Karl needs a dog box to speed up his 1/4 times ! :)

hi guys.. sorry can't get onto the forum at work, just started a new job working for Mercedes-Benz World... (check the site out.. might be able to do a discount on AMG driving experiences if you guys want to come and visit?) Anyway.. cheers 'saysomestuff' but its too new and not easy to fit, (mounts are in the wrong place from the ealier versions of the haldex diff) but thatnks! Also I think 200 is a little steep, reckon 100 quid for a rear diff as they are so common now. Kev.. its a big myth that tdi gears are stronger! They are identicle layout and strength as any other 02j, A, C gear set. Only difference are the ratios! If you can go 02M, I would! seriously, not worth peeing around with tdi gears unless you have a set of 02m items. Thats why I'm going haldex. I have 2 mates who have both launched their 450+bhp cars at 5-7k revs more than 150 times a piece and so far have NOT broken anything on the haldex setup... why pay out loads for Quaife or other after market cogs when factory 02m ones are good for at least 600bhp!! The answer is so simple! My tdi gears are just to get me by until i can afford to go haldex. Ben

cheers lads. update.. Tdi gears are all in the the rallye casing now. New outter bearings, re-floted gear stacks, tdi final drive and crown wheel on rallye diff with peloquin bolt kit :) .. bolted it all back up and dropped the engine back in this afternoon. I've raised the engine by 3mm as well to help the prop clear the PAS hard line pipes as its been rubbing. So hopefully next weekend I'll be able to finish putting everything back in and take it for a spin to trial the tdi ratios... Meanwhile haldex parts are now being collected so if you have a rear diff, prop, gearbox+ trans going cheap let me know.. pm me. cheers Ben

I'm loving that rado in the shoot out.. Its made me crack on with the haldex conversion on mine and start saving for a bigger turbo! ;-)

haha! very good! Actually you laugh but I had one of those campers 'almost' overtake me on the way back from worthersee 05 on the autobahn! Seriously the old oil burner was struggling @ 120mph and this mk2 camper was gaining on us!! lol

20vt noise... boring? Yes the engine doesn't have the nice VR induction noise but anyone heard my car screetch for traction going up the road? huh? lol ;-)

I would say that my corrado is a project car at the mo but will soon be my daily driver after crimbo / worthersee cruiser this coming May ;-) Just getting everything upto scratch before taking the leap.. (Tdi gearbox should be all in by next weekend :) ) Mk4 Tdi 115 for daily hack for the time being! Ben
