  1. I'd say it could be done for 2k if one did the conversion themself! You'd have to pick the engine up for peanuts but I've seen them go for £200-250 on ebay so anything is possible. £3k if someone else does it for you. Bit of labour charge there ;-) I'm going to be putting a 20vt into a mates mk1 shortly so I'll let you know how we get on.. got an intial budget of £1500 so going to be interesting!!
  2. The thing is it will not look like that when it his the road so - whatever - !
  3. thats mental.. What gearbox are you using? Bet thats very quick!
  4. There's a neater solution: http://www.qpeng.com/conversion_guide_7.html - see step 26 ;-) arhh bugger off John..lol.. Its 'work in progress' !!!
  5. Quite true.. but you kinda get the idea.. huh! ;-) Biggerbigbutthead Yes!!!
  6. No problem, glad to help. I know how frustrating these things can be, it happened to me and I almost went mad trying to solve the issue. Have you changed to the new batt, I know it sounds odd but unless those coils are getting around 12 volts each they can play silly buggers!! Don't buy another MAP sensor until you have re-installed your current MAP mate.. as and when it might be better to see if you can test out another sensor before buying one. They are not cheap - £50-100.. If you have to purchase one then I think your best place to buy one is from Ben Leach - QPeng engineering. Nice guy, very helpful and good prices. Its not an Audi part though mate, its aftermarket so you won't get it at the Stealer! B
  7. John he is using a 3 bar MAP sensor just like mine and marks. Its in the top right hand side of that pic he posted. I'm pretty sure thats faulty. A nasty backfire could have taken it out, they are very sensetive.
  8. large one obviously! ;-) Phat doesn't do things in halfs!
  9. ok, once its plugged into the laptop let us know what its reading. good luck. Ben
  10. Just looked at the pic again.. the MAP is in the top right hand corner.. its the item just out of the pic.. had a blue vacum pipe going to it.. I have a spare one at home.. doubt you are but if you are going to E38 I can bring it.. to test it? Ben
  11. no thats not the MAP, thats the OEM boost/wastegate controller. My MAP is a small box. It will have a vacum pipe going to it and a plug with about 3 wires coming out og it. My Haltech may be different to the DTA.. The injectors make loads of noise, sounds like tappets have gone, thats all fine. Don't worry about turbo.. The more I think about it its the MAP.. however have you made sure the batt is all good as if the coils aren't getting there required volts they may not fire properly! I know it sounds strange but mine did exactly as you described until I change the batt for a much larger item! Its not the Fuel reg either.. you need to plug the laptop in and see if the MAP is reading atmostphere, then turn it over and the value should drop on ignition as vacum is created then read a minus value once running (vacum). Let me know.
  12. TVR .. 8) You know it makes sense ;-)
  13. That should be a "strobe light".. sorry.. typing too quickly! Its not an expensive item if you need to test the coilpacks. Just pull out 1 coilpack and insert the strob light between the coilpack and the spark plug. Make sure its connected to the metal areas on both and just turn over the engine (disconnect the fuel pump or something).. you'll see the strobe light flash for every time the coilpack sends power to the sparkplug. If you get no flash, there is no spark and thus the coilpack could be fooked! Or you could try your mates. Harder to see which coil pack is knackered though.. B
  14. sounds like one of the sensors is faulty.. as coxy said, plug in a laptop and see if all the sensors are playing ball.. Just sounds like overfuelling so could be the MAP sensor. Not going to do you any harm, shouldn't wash the bores. I had a similar issue on mine and I replace the MAP sensor and it was fine. Another thought, could be a corrupt map on the DTA, unlikely, but might be worth re-installing the map. Again need a laptop. Coxy had a DTA on his mk2 so he's your best person to speak to. With regards to the bad starting issue, I've found a semi fixable solution. Just need to open the throttle body a touch, i.e. I've just used some cable ties to make sure it idles around 1000 rpm and I haven't had a problem with the cold start since. I will be fitting a mk1 stablisation valve shortly which does effectively the same thing. Let us know how you get on! **** just read your last post.. do a stobe light test on the coil packs to check they are ok.. If not I've heard GSF do replacment items for about 20 quid each! S4 engines use the same coilpacks as some 20vt's - no difference ***** Ben
  15. right ok.. i know what to do here ;-) I have the same leak on my c.. I'm running a 16v fuel pump and the bloody thing has started to leak.. exactly where you have described. Basically its the plastic swirl pot seal that is leaking. looks like the fuel is coming from the pump but its the seal on the swirl pot. I've tried to bodge it but the fuel still leaks, not very much but enough to be of a concern.. The solution - GSF can sell you the plastic box or swirl pot for about £30.. Don't think its hard to fit but be werry of the menal pipes as you'll need to replace the washers on them once you pull them apart, which you will have to do to get the box on. I think the seal is part of the box but I may be wrong. I haven't done mine yet but I was thinking of buying another pump and making a nice job of it, having the metal pipes sand blasted and powder coated etc etc.. Let me know how you get on. Don't forget there are x2 types of 16v pumps, so be sure to tell GSF exactly what your one is.. prob get the correct one from the chassis number.. Ben
  16. looking forward to seeing it at ED38 chap!!
  17. 1500 miles seems about right.. worth taking it easy for sure! Bet it won't take you long to clock those miles up!
  18. cool. How many miles do you have to run it in for then?
