  1. Hi folks... The VR6 (expectedely) failed the MOT this morning for two reasons: Front pads too low Steering Rack Gaitor is split. I have a friend who is a reasonably competent mechanic but i only like to give him "general" type work like pads / discs replacement etc. Is the steering rack gaitor a big job to replace and are there any other parts worth replacing in that area while the job is being done? And do i have to source the parts from VW main stealers for this job? Thanks in advance. Del.
  2. nice one Gareth. Welcome back (were you ever away properly?) Get some pictures up of a car that you know is one of my all time favorite Corrados.
  3. they look neat. nice touch. i take it they weren't a straight swap?
  4. sounds good. got pics of the TT seats fitted?
  5. And don't forget that a Storm is faster cos its a Storm.
  6. nail/head. not all owners, but those that dont know the exact difference really have a big chip on their shoulder about how much more superior they think they are cos it's a Storm.
  7. Good question and a valid thread if you ask me. I asked the same question when mine was coming upto around 100'000 miles and had some good replies back then. Anyway....... You also need to check/inspect the condition all of the various rubber air pipes / water pipes under the bonnet as many of them (particularly around joints / bends etc) can be vulnerable to perishing / cracking. I have had some of these issues on my own car in the past. I still don't know about timing chains. Not sure whether someone told me they wear out / stretch or if they are fine left alone. AKAIK mine are the originals, and i still don't know whether they need changing.
  8. just to clarify, i am not looking for buying advice for me personally about the car in question. I might not have made it clear that i already own a VR6 and am not looking for another Corrado. The thread was more about Storm values and whether the car in question is priced at the right bench mark taking into account current market values / recently sold cars etc (which as i said, i'm not all that clued up on) Also, the owner has said to me "if you know any of your Corrado mates who may be intersted in it, i'll drop you my details". To which my own inital reaction was "5k seems a bit steep, but im no expert - but i know a few people that are" There are people on here (many of whom have already posted) who's opinion's i value highly, hence the thread.
  9. me too. I can't see any reason why they would. It's always been an under-rated car and it seems it's also an under valued car too.
  10. i need to do this to finish my dashbaord off. its half modded and half screwed back not tight enough cos i thought i'd get around to finishing it!
  11. He said that to me too. I bet he says it to all the Corrados. In all fairness to him, i have not had any huge problems that alot of people on here report. Just watch now that i've said that and tempted fate: door handles will break, sunroof will jam, heater matrix will pack up, timing chains will snap, spoiler will stop working,
  12. I just typed a long reply and i.e. went cold on me! So 2nd time lucky... For me, it is the fact that no other car i can afford to buy right now feels like / handles like / sounds like /looks like the way my VR6 does. Yes there are lots of litle niggles here and there but overall, the way it "fits like a glove" every single time i get behind the wheel, plus the fact i have owned it for 6 years and really know both my limit with it and its' own limits. As many of you know, i prefer the "older stuff" when it come to cars and whilst i could not afford a lot of the newer faster cars around, they also don't have the same appeal to me as the Corrado. It really has come to a stage where every time i want to press the loud pedal, nothing beats that buzz it gives from the acceleration / sound and it's handling. On the motorway it still holds its own against most idiots in newer cars that dont get out of the way. On the twisty stuff, its just so much fun too. So, for now i'll continue to drip feed the Porsche 993 fund, and the VR6 stays.
  13. Thats the sort of replies i was hoping to get, and to be fair its about what i thought too. The thing is, alot of the people on here have your ear more 'to the ground' with than me, which is why you would have a better idea than me about values and what is realistic etc. I wonder if he will advertise it with "rare karmann interior" I guess its a case of him trying his luck, and either the right person (more money than sense maybe?) with the right money will come along and snap it up OR after a few months of trying with no success, he will get a reality check and lower his expectations & asking price to well under 4k, and perhaps a real enthusiast with the correct amount of money will buy it and continue to look after it as it has been all these years. I paid well under 5k for my VR6 in August of 2003, nearly 6 years ago - it had only covered 48'000 miles and it was owned by a very rich farmer who pampered the car with VAG parts / service only. I seem to remember that at the time it seemed quite well priced and similar Storms were going for £7-8k at least.
  14. Evening boys & girls. Seeing Corrado values getting lower and lower, can anyone say if a Storm is still worth 5k? The reason i am wondering is because i met someone today who owns a Green storm - a car i know quite well (in green) and plans to sell it and wants £5k for it. He has owned the car since it was about 18-24 months old. He is the 2nd owner and it has now covered about 100'000 miles (apparently mostly motorway) I have known the car from seeing it around for many many years and it is an example that has been looked after regardless of cost, and the owner is lets say - an "older" guy and defo well off enough to keep the car in tip top condition and the car has every single bill / mot / receipt etc. Apparently, the only deviation from stock is that it sits on 16" OZ Polaris wheels which have been on the car from day 1. Now i know that a car is only what someone is willing to pay for it, and if i didnt have a VR6 of my own, i'd be tempted (although not at that price) cos it's such a well kept unmolested car with a great history file and 2nd owner etc, so is it realistic for him to expect to sell the car for £5k? Seeing as i took the decision not to sell my VR6 about a year ago, I havent really been keeping a keen eye in the for sale sections but have noticed good examples going for less and less money.
  15. no idea. i bought mine such a long time ago and at the time everyone was upgrading / already had done it. I dont use the forum regularly enough to know who's around and is still doing them. i wouldnt have risked doing it myself either.
  16. dont know about quick fix, but defo get yourself a better loom. and dont get a cheapo one, use someone from here is he is still around. H100VW i think was his name. Gav? or something like that.
  17. thanks for the advice Boost monkey. daft as it sounds, how do i check the stalk? what i mean is, if i get the steering off etc, what am i actually searching for?
  18.   Paul, you're not supposed to tell people on public forums things like that. Hope all is well with you mate.
  19. Hi people I have an upgraded wiring loom in my VR6 as supplied by GAV H100VW ? (cant remember his user name it's been in there that long) many moons ago. Ive had years of trouble free lighting with it, but just recently the full beam does not come on. This is the scenario: If there are no lights on at all and you pull the stalk to flash the lights, nothing happens. If the light switch is on position 1 the normal "lower" brightness - the lights come on as usual and as they should, but again if you flash the lights, there is no change and the full bright beams (nearest to the radiator grille) dont come on. if the main "brighter" lights are on i.e. position 2 of the switch, then the brighter lights come on as usual however this time, if you pull on the stalk, they go down to the lower brightness and no full beams come on. It surely cant be the bulbs cos its unlikely both would go and also even if was the bulbs, surely they wouldnt revert to the position 1 equivalent of brightness when you try to use them? Feels as though its a wiring issue where somthing has come off / moved etc. I've looked at all the spade connectors and they all seem to be in the same places they have been ever since the loom was fitted by me yonks ago. Anyone got any ideas? And while im here, quick fog light question... if one is not working (and im confident it IS just a bulb) it's not a unit replacement is it? I take it just the bulb can be changed on these? Thanks.
  20. Hello folks. Haven't been on for a few months. Anyway, when the spoiler goes up and down i get a nasty squeaking sound. Is there a definitive long term solution for this? I dont really want to just spray WD40 down the gaps cos it doesnt seem like that would be a very proper solution. Surely something inside needs greasing / oiling? Just wondered if anyone else's spoiler has this issue and what you did to sort it? Cheers. Del.
  21. Hi Rob, Just wanted to say thanks for the splendid job you did on my car on Saturday. Am looking forward to seeing the pictures to see how the car has photographed and whether they give a good idea of how crap it looked before and how great it looks now. You can add me to the list of people who would happily recommend you to anyone that is not sure.
  22. Thats what i too would have suggested. Got a nice smell to it too.
  23. Yes, but you need to par boil it first. (where's the tongue in cheek smiley?)
  24. This is MOST true. If you put it on wrong it will just mess everything up including smeared up / misty / foggy unclear windows etc. Make sure your screen in totally clean and dry before you apply it.
  25. wouldnt be without it. Have been using it from day one and its awesome. At night, the rain is almost invisible and you harldy ever need to use your wipers. Give it a try, you wont regret it.
