    insurance costs

hmmmm....I just checked it, and it's working fine for me :|

    insurance costs

Try http://www.quinn-direct.com/ I've been getting quotes for my second car (so I cant use my NCB), and they quoted me just over £400 FC for either my C or my rocco! (Thats without telling them about the mods on the C though)
  3. If/when they phone me, I'll be asking for as many as possible in that case! :D What date did you guys go for? I'm wondering if I haven't been called yet, because I opted for a later date?
  4. I signed up and ordered two tics for the 18th....they just said they would post them out to me! No phonecall yet though :|
  5. You must all have smaller hands than me so   :-P
  6. The speedo cable and wiring can be a nightmare to get out! There isn't much room to get your hand around behind them at all! Removing the lower part of the dash is prob a good idea. But as far as I remember, that's gonna be a tight squeeze to get you hand up behind there too!

    Big brake conversion

Leons...have 325mm disks compared to the Ibizas 305mm afaik! Baz2004, I still have the standard master cylinder on mine. Had to adjust the bias between the front and rear brakes though. Not sure if it's quite right still.....I almost did a "stoppie" when I was forced to slam on the brakes the other day!!

    Biofuel

But don't any cars running on E85 have to have been built especially to take it, with strengthened valves, as Ethanol burns at a much higher temp than standard petrol?

    Big brake conversion

They are a bit expensive for secondhand brakes :? I got a complete new set with custom bolts etc delivered from Germany for less that the price that bidding is currently at on those!! I'll try to dig out the name of the place I got mine from......but keep an eye out on German Ebay, you would prob get a better deal there!

    no thread in wipers

hmmm....mine would actually stay in position without the bolt being tightened at all! The shape of the inside of the bolt hole on the wiper arm kind of just wedged itself onto the orig splines :?

    no thread in wipers

yeah, mine are tha same, and I've had no trouble with them slipping! They are fine if you just push them firmly onto the original splines and then tighten the bolt up!
  12. Is it the running light thats not working, or the brake light? I had a similar prob, except with the number plate lights. I did the same thing as you, started at the source of the prob and took the light unit apart. I ended up chasing the wiring through the car to try and find any cuts in the loom. and ended up finding a fried wire at the back of the headlight switch. I assume the taillights connect through the HL switch too, but I'm not sure of the colour coding of the wire! Anyway, If I was doing it again, I'd check the light unit, then the switch before I checked the loom to the tailgate; as there is more chance of something going wrong in either of those places than on the length of wire inbetween them!
  13. It runs along the floor, just on the inside of the drivers side sill. You just have to pull up the plastic "kick plate" and pull the carpet up to see it. Its a fairly substantial load of wires!! I cant remember exactly were it splits from the main loom, but I followed the wire for the number plate lights back up to the headlight switch. So I guess a few of them run up to there, so that could be somewhere else you could follow the wires from
  14. Same here, it was a nightmare!
  15. If there was anyone in that car when it happened.....they were damn lucky the car wedged itself there like that
  16. Have to hand it to the Germans, they know how to build good cars, and fantastic factories by the looks of it  I'd be happy to LIVE somewhere like that.....never mind work there!!!
  17. I had the same prob with a scammer on Ebay a month or so ago!! I strung the guy along with daft questions about "turbo jet engines"! for motorcycles....the "amazing nightlife" in Bognor Moor...and with the promise of a big Western Union payment for him....we even forged a WU reciept and sent him off to his local Western Union office!! These guys don't ahev a clue about the item for sale, so you can get a good laugh out of them asking daft questions to see what sort of response you get!
  18. yeah, basically! Slightly different design though! I thought VW came out with a figure of 67% reduction in lift on the Corrado when they used the spolier during orig testing at 60mph? (seems a bit high to me though) yeah I used to think that too...but if you look at the car from the side though, it performs the same way as a (crude) planes wing would! BASICALLY, the path the airflow takes over the top of the car is longer than the path beneath the car. So the airflow accelerates around the top side (over bonnet, window, roof etc)...According to Bernoulli's Law, this accelerated airflow has a lower pressure than the lower speed air passing beneath the car. So the higher pressure beneath the car basically pushes the car up and away from the road!!! If ye want to see this in action....think of the crappy standard Corrado wipers shuddering and not making proper contact with the windscreen at high speed, they are being lifted away from the windscreen by the low pressure/high speed flow over the top of the car, whereas they will work better at low speeds where the spring in them is strong enough to hold them firmly against the window
  19. Clues in the name really.....the profile shape of most cars inherently generates lift! Most spoliers are there to "Spoil" or reduce this lift! Its only when ye get into pretty high performance stuff (F1 etc) that you could really say that a rear spoiler generates a negative lift coefficient at the rear of the car. The underbody of the car is also the area that generates the highest levels of drag (due to exhausts engine bits etc being there), the front splitter also deflects airflow away from this high drag region. The front splitter would generate some downforce to some extent, but it would be pretty inefficient. Downforce generated by the underbody relies heavily on a F1/Ferrari style rear diffuser......with the Corrado lacks
  20. dunno whether they were standard on any VW's, but you do see them on ebay the whole time.. clicky or else just get some tinting spray and do them yourself...they are pretty easy to do because they are so small!
  21. You can get a sack of pellets to put in the fuel tank too! I got one of the in-line yokes because I heard some pretty good feedback from some others who had used them! It was fitted when I was doing a load of service work on the car, so obvioulsy it drove better after that, so I cant really compare what effect the octane booster had  Steve_16v (from Dublin) fitted one of the in-tank ones and said he could deffo feel the difference in his car though! :?:
  22. I'm looking for the same thing except somewhere in the south! I have heard some good reviews of Schaffino Leather!...Anybody used them? Or heard anything about them?

    Relocated My Horn

There was actually a pic of a "chocolate" brown C on here a while back though, wasn't there? :?

    Relocated My Horn

I think it's kinda interesting looking! It's unique, I wouldn't mind seeing what the full car looks like! :thumbleft:

    Wierd sound

Depends on where the noise is coming from really! If its happening when you turn the ignition key to position 2 but don't start the engine, it could be the fuel pump priming. In that case the noise would be coming from the rear of the car.
