Most likely problem is the ballast resistor burnt out. Ages since I had that but pretty sure its fitted close to the fan itself. VAG reckoned it was a 'typical' fault.
-
Chuck, I've seen a few different handles fitted flush but first time without. That looks really neat - like it lots. Must have improved the aerodynamics loads but doesn't the caravan slow you down? LOL
-
Try looking round the breakers - I was lucky and picked up a mint condition black one for my 16v (tho' had to ring round a bit & wait till one came up) and loads cheaper than vag. Admittedly a few years ago now but you never know till you try.

Yes Jim I spent a good bit of time talking to both about this & feel same as you. Tks for reply. Want to do suspension first tho

Unfortunately no, didn't get to hear the CC induction kit so still on my list of must dos. Yep, the thing is definitely standard :D The question I have to answer tho' is what type of rechip to go for. How do I decide whether to change the original one or to go for the separate unit piggy-back job? Have to admit that I'm a bit wary of the add-on because of cutting into the wiring; if the performance of the different types is comparable I'm inclined more towards an actual chip change. There are bound to be pros and cons so what do you guys who've done it reckon? I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure

What a great day. Good to cu again Jim (people will start to talk) and meet up with Andy and Dan, and apologies to whoever else that I can't remember is on here. Who else went on the dyno and what did you get? I meant to ask around to compare results but spent far too much time chatting in the garage and didn't. I was quite chuffed to have got 202.4 (160.2 wheels) BHP and 196.2 lb ft out of my standard VR6 so now wondering what induction & the chip might do to it. What you other guys out there getting?
-
Your middle names would'nt happen to be John Paul by any chance? Seriously tho' I'm surprised they didn't try the old "but you've been driving it sir so it's fair wear and tear" - meaning you pay Lucky sod
-
Yep. Thats about the only other common factor I can think of other than what you've checked. Can't think off the top of my head how they are connected/routed round the car, but chances are they may not have joined 'em up again if they cut them to get the doors off. Let's know what if u find it. I'd be well miffed if they'd done that to mine.
-
Yeah, ditto all of that; steer well clear they're pants.
-
Looking forward to the pix Chuck. How much that cost u then?
-
The tents are out at pres so not sure what type they are & the stores chap who looks after them is away till 14th. I'll sort it then & let you know; don't worry, I will get some but they do not come with field kitchen & chef.

Hi maddub, I only live a few miles from there tho' never been to the place but could be tempted. So what goes on; entry fees; etc etc? Or do you know their web site address - I just looked but couldn't find it. -
banana man - Ant, are you still contemplating doing a group booking, or are we doing our own thing?
-
OK guys so who knows what's supposed to happen with dim dip? I've got the ballast resistor, but whatever I do with ign or switches my dip bulbs are either ON or OFF. Doesn't seem to be any 'dim' illum. Unless that is the problem with the lights all along and they are permanently on DIM :D :D

yep I'm there in the 6. don't be shy grugh, you'll see by the state of my paint (and shabby wheels)!!!

It's usually the motor that gives up the ghost. New ones from VAG cost a fortune (over £300) because they try to sell the complete assembly ha ha no chance. I sourced a motor from a breaker for £25 then stripped the whole lot off the car, cleaned & greased it, changed the motor & its been perfect ever since.

Ant, sorry mate just couldn't resist the opening... yeah I know what you mean about the prices. Actually I've been thinking the front mount on the VR might need doing, but haven't gotten round to inspecting it yet, a job for saturday. I haven't priced anything yet, are euro best would you say?
-
Yeah, nice looking burgundy. Get rid of the filler cap & keep the mirrors an you're looking good. Stone chipping seems to come as standard with the c - my Alfa never seemed to suffer like this (it was the paint that held 'em together :D :D )
-
banana man wrot perhaps the oe ones cost that much because because they last longer than 2 weeks :D :D :D :D

the 16v had a Sony am/fm/cass, can't recall the model number now since it got theived. The VR had a removeable Alpine am/fm/cd but it expired. Both now Kenwood full masks: an am/fm/cass with a 6cd changer; other is an am/fm/cd

I have had this as an intermittent fault on my 16v for about 2 yrs or more, but when I turn the key the inst lights stay on and there is no solenoid sound or anything else. Initially changed the starter which seemed to cure it, but it came back some months later. Only seems to happen when the thing is really hot, leave it long enough & its OK again. Cleaning the earth lead also seemed to fix it but again only for a short while. Finally got fed up and have just bought a new ignition switch in case its that but haven't fitted it yet.
