Yes, that's all well and good for taking them off I agree, but we are talking here about fitting them - aren't we? On a serious note (if there is such a thing  ) I disagree about them being too stiff - my aging back ain't what it once was & I think they're fine.

Yes, Supercharged is spot on. The inner seals start to leak and you get that sinking feeling. Slave is easier and cheaper to do first (and from my experience more likely)

Hi daz, Changed mine same time as the konis. The end links are real easy, but suggest you get 2 new bolts and nuts that hold the links to the wishbones b4 you start as the ends of the bolts are prone to rusting and destroy themselves when you remove them. The bushes are fiddly; you have to loosen the rear bolts on the subframe and drop it down so that you can get them out. They have a little metal cap that hooks under a lip on the top of the arb and a bolt holding it down in position at the rear - you willl understand what I mean when you get under there. Fitting the new ones is easier if you lubricate them first (helerine fluid or good old washing up liquid). Get it on a ramp if you can, this is no fun at all if you're on the floor. The only thing that bothered me was whether loosening the subframe bolts upsets the alignment. Didn't worry too much as I was having it re-done anyway because of the new konis. I have been meaning to ask someone but not gotten around to it. So, does anyone know?

Jacob G60, trying to edit my profile and I keep getting Dutch language :? Can't remember the colour codes so will try another day Can you expand the dates of birth? - I'm a 1949 vintage which isn't listed  -
Yep, exactly right. Actually I always have the mfa oil temp on till up to temp, then either stay with that or amuse myself with the mpg :)

Kev, are u saying they used an air gun on the top mount? I don't see how they could since you have to hold the centre post nut and turn the securing nut around it :? i.e. small socket big ring. Sounds more likely to be a seal failure & (dare I say) down to Koni? I've got TAs all round and have to say am very pleased with them (though they did supply the wrong springs initially).

Well I've never tried this myself, but had a conversation about it at AMD. From what I gathered it can be a bit of a swine to get off (pivot bolts I think are the worst bit), and I guess you would need to get the full geo done when its back on there. Is it worth having it optically checked first to see what's what?

Can't believe that I have 2Cs and they are both off the road at the same time. Put the 16v in for mot & a cam belt (yeah I know but I couldn't be bothered to do it myself). Went to fetch it before setting off to Weymouth only to discover that 'one of the pulleys came apart in our 'ands gov'. None in stock & the computer down so we'll give you a call back later next week. :( Mind you they were impressed by how shiny it is :D Undeterred, scrounged a lift back home, kicked the tires and lit the fires on the VR and roared off. Nearly there then thought why my temp light flashing, I wasn't going THAT fast. Watch temps like proverbial hawk and all seems to be ok for quite a while but then start that worrying climb. Have shufti under bonnet - what is all that steam issuing from under the engine top cover  please not my head gasket. Header tank level is nowhere in sight and no garages in vicinity. Gently on, worrying, till I find one. Rather careful getting the cap off then getting lots of h2o in to cool it down some before looking for the problem. Heater hose from the back of the head has a hole & spraying onto the head - relief, except that all my coolant is now spread over half of Dorset. Emergency insulating tape to the rescue. Had to keep making pit stops but got there and back - eventually. Checked it out on Sunday and all looks to have survived, oil & water uncontaminated, running fine, but parked up till I can get the bits to fix her. There seems to be a hose virus out there at the moment.

Hi Marc, The rear calliper carrier bolts are a swine to get off, not long ago did my rear discs. Be prepared to spend time on them and lots of wd40. The only tips I can offer are: make sure you clean up the inside of the bold head as much as you can to the allen key goes in as deep as possible; fabricate some means of extending the allen key (make sure a good fit or it will slip) to give you as much leverage as possible; get a mate to repeatedly hammer the edge of the carrier (carefully - the vibrations will help to break the bolt free) while you are exerting pressure on the allen key; when it does let go it will be very sudden - I had a bruised elbow for weeks afterwards coz it hit the ramp VERY hard. Take care with this as it is easy to hurt yourself. You could always take it to the garage and ask them to break the lock for you then go home and do the job yourself. Get 4 new bolts from VAG - they are very cheap and it's not worth reusing the old ones. Or plan B is to grind/file flats on the heads and use a spanner - also time consuming as hardly any room to work. Have fun & let us know how you get on

And, the ends are held down with plastic trim clips. The front one is fixed to the strip and clips to the roof, the rear one is a separate item that clips onto both the strip and the roof. Sometimes damaged when removed so u might want to check 'em over b4 fitting them.

Hi guys, just got back (to work) today. What a great w/e and really good meeting up with u all. Jim, nice pics, glad u didn't go 'exorcist' and put my head on backwards.
