  1. Reid: It´s been ages! Just checked the recall campaign text from VW (US), where it specifically states: Sorry mate, seems your G60 is excluded then  Davidwort: Damn, you´ve been contacted by my alter-ego, driving a new Scirocco, built in Portugal with US seatbelts. Always knew they´re crap  Dash out, because with aircon, it´s impossible to remove the heater box whilst the dash is in. Most if not all UK-spec Rados should be do-able with the dash in, albeit this is not necessarily the optimal approach. Tempest
  2. It´s maybe time to also report back on a very positive experience with VW. Back in 2006 or so I contacted a friend over in the US, who works as a mechanic for a VW dealership, to run the VIN of my US-G60 through their V-Crest system, VW (US) open recall system. Sure enough my Rado came back with 3 open recalls. This chap then very kindly sent me the official VW documents that are sent to each dealership on how to service the recalls, bit like repair manuals, including lists of part numbers of parts needed to do each recall. I subsequently approached VW (UK) kindly asking them to service the open recalls. This is the slight negative experience: Dealing with VW (UK) in Milton Keynes. They could not find my vehicle, despite me having sent them both VINs (US cars also have a VIN where the normal filler Z-characters have been replaced with meaningful further coding letters) of my Rado. After lots of letter writing VW (UK) ultimately told me I should approach the US. That was it as far as they were concerned. Somehow I´d given up hope, and somehow had forgotten about the whole thing till last November, when I retrieved the last letter I had received from VW (UK) again, and decided to follow their advice and contact VW (US). I promptly received a reply from VW (US) stating that as a matter of course the 3 open recalls should be serviceable by any VW dealership in the world, free of charge, and that I should approach my local dealership in this matter as soon as convenient, which I did. Now most dealerships are franchises, so need paying by VW in one way or other for any work they do. So my local dealer, Listers Volkswagen Coventry tried to contact VW (UK). You can see where this initially went: After 3 months Listers gave up, having escalated to my case worker´s superior, who could also not get any positive decision from VW (UK). Listers gave up. I subsequently contacted Wolfsburg (sent a letter in German, of course). That did the trick. They wanted to know who my local dealer was, Listers Coventry, in turn contacted VW (UK), and within 2 days I had the head of customer services Luxury Cars VW (UK) on the telephone to me! This chap was apologetic, and told me to contact Listers, who would be informed about everything. Indeed they had been, when I re-approached them to get my Rado booked in for the open recalls. Dropped off the Rado on Monday, after good customer contact with both VW (UK) and Listers (to arrange the drop-off of my C), and received a call from Listers telling me my Rado was ready for collection this Tuesday just gone. Went in to Listers, inspected the C, tested everything still working, signed paperwork, and happily drove off with all open recalls serviced. Had a chat with the master technician at Listers today, who´s done the work on my C, possibly not to a small extent thanks to the excellent chaps on the parts counter, who know me quite well, and with whom I must have spent I forgot how many thousands of pounds throughout the years. Techie and I had a chat about the work done, he likes the Corrado, still an old-school techie. Then went in to the service desk folk, thanked them, and one lass on the counter who works for Listers told me she nearly had bought a G60 Rado recently, but missed her chance and has got a new Scirocco now (not quite the same thing, were her words). Driving off my C from Lister´s car park the day before a nearby sales person commented on what a nice car I had. All in all a very enjoyable experience, which also goes to show that some dealerships still have passionate staff, who like their older Dubs. Moral of the story is that sometimes you shouldn´t shy away form writing a few letters here and there, and don´t get put off by initial fob-off attempts. Tempest
  3. Thanks from me to all those who attended today´s maybe epic day for the Corrado Club. You made the day, your attendance made the work the committee put in for the club extremely worthwhile indeed. Seeing so many Corrados on the famous banking is an eye treat to not forget for a long time. Here are the pics I took today: Mulling over ideas for next year already :) Tempest
  4. This could get long with all the colours available for Rados  So, of course, you're all wrong. Alpine white! :) Tempest
  5. Yes, happy to sign up new members on the day, but it may delay proceedings in terms of "processing" everyone waiting at the entry, or once they have parked up. Ideally only Rados to park on the banking, and it's those that we really need to make sure the relevant owners are paid-up members, because it'll cost the CCGB exactly your annual membership fee to be allowed by Brooklands Museum to park on the banking. Bringing mates not a problem, but if they arrive in Corrados they will have to pay the fee, because we won't be able to start differentiating between those Corrados that do want to park on the banking and those that don't. 6. Bear in mind the HUGE roadworks on the M1 (carriageway widening) running from MK to Luton, entire stretch littered with specs cameras set at 50mph. Tempest
  7. Yes, door/gate staff needed. Kip and me looking at doing the first shift, but copuld do with relief afterwards. Please bring membership cards! Just to remind people why all the fuss: The CCGB are paying the fee for parking each member´s Rado on the famous Brooklands Banking later in the day, so it is only fair that only paid-up members are admitted and no non-member slips through. Don´t want protests from either non-members nor members (who rightfully can complain if non-members get free parking on the banking). Tempest
  8. Interesting read, indeed, good to see the 928 results :) Tempest
  9. Update: Please use Entrance 2, Campbell Gate: Tempest
  10. Just an update on the matter: FUEL STABILITY ADDITIVE TEST RESULTS Posted by admin on 13-04-2012 The FBHVC (Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs) is pleased to announce the results of its fuel stability additive test programme. This research was designed to test the anti-corrosive properties of proprietary additives claiming to provide a high level of protection against potential corrosion of fuel systems, including tanks, pipework and fuel metering equipment on historic vehicles caused by the addition of ethanol into petrol. VSPe Power Plus, VSPe and EPS from Millers Oils; Ethomix from Frost A R T Ltd; Ethanolmate from Flexolite all received an ‘A’ rating in the research which enables all these products carry an endorsement from the FBHVC. The endorsement is in the form of the FBHVC logo and the words: ‘endorsed by the FBHVC as a fuel additive for protection against corrosion in metals’. All additive manufacturers and suppliers were approached in 2011 to provide test samples for this research which was designed to simulate storage in a vehicle’s fuel tank for a 12 month period. The FBHVC’s conference last October majored on the effects of ethanol in petrol with presentations from industry experts. It identified three issues to be considered: corrosion, compatibility and combustion. The Federation has been represented at a Fuel Stakeholders meetings with the DfT. For details of the products please contact: Millers’ Oils – email: [email protected]; website: http://www.millersoils.co.uk Frost A R T Ltd – email: [email protected]; website: http://www.frost.co.uk Flexolite – email: [email protected]; website: http://www.flexolite.co.uk Just a reminder that about a year ago in Germany Mercedes have asked Bosch to check whether their K-Jets are safe, to which Bosch's answer was no. The corrosive properties of E10 are harmful to K-Jets as proven by Bosch. It is true that there is no legislation in the UK forcing petrol stations to indicate the percentage ethanol in fuels unlike in Germany and France. Here in the UK, petrol stations have quietly been increasing the ethanol-percentage value by 1% each year. We're up to 5% as of 1/4/2012, in-line with normal 95-octane fuels on the continent. Tempest
  11. Just a bump reminder: Those that cannot make Stnford Hall new date but are coming to the CCGB National Day, bring your passes to hand in to me, and I will hopefully by then have a nice full again list for the new date, so i can redistribute those passes. if you can make the new date and have a pass, keep it :) But then do regsiter your name on the Events List on the CCGB website, so I can keep track of where the passes are and who´s coming. Tempest
  12. Best way forward regarding passes: Those that cannot make Stanford Hall on the new date (1 July), please PM or email me for my address, then return the pass to me. I have started a new entry on the CCGB events calendar. Please can everyone wanting to put their Rado on he CCGB cub stand sign up on the CCGB events calendar. The old calendar entry (6 May date) has now been removed. Those that have passes and wish to attend on the new date (1 July), keep your pass. Those that cannot, please return the pass to me. Tempest
  13. I went the easy way, some time ago bought a car seat office chair from Argos (well, one of those Argos ex-catalogue places anyway, where they sold the same seat for around £50, Argos sell this seat for £100+). Tempest
  14. Just received this email from the organisers: Tempest
  15. Nope, they have definitely not got this model, because I have been pestering them for more than 3 years now to cash in a voucher I received 3 years ago for my birthday. Keep on asking them whether certain Rado or now also 928 models are in stock, and wherever it says 7-14 days, that means not in stock. Latest email me asking about the yellow Rado dates back 3 weeks, no stock. Tempest
  16. Don't really care whether an engine is balanced or not, fact is that a 928 V8 can be taken up to 800 bhp by turbocharging it, as has been demonstrated on a few cars by who else, of course, but the Americans. :) Tempest
  17. Just checked the maker's website, Minichamps, where it's still listed as delivery date unknown. At least that''s an improvement on its previous status, which was "Sold out". Tempest
  18. Correct, and that was back in 1988 till 1992, when Porsche decided the idea was too unreliable, and ditched it again. Mine´s working again, just a neat cool feature methinks :) Tempest
  19. G60 Rado for fun, handling, sound. :) 928 for proper power delivery. Nothing beats whole-number multiples of 4 when talking cylinders  Tempest
  20. Nice to see some Mk1 Rocco action, and indeed Rado action. Yes, Bergrennen is German for hillclimb. Tempest (off to Germany in a few hours :))
  21. Yes please, Faye, will help. Much appreciated :) Tempest
  22. That´s the spirit folks. Eat rados, sleep Rados, dream Rados, there have even been incidents of people showing love to their Rados, but let´s not dig up those pics again  Tempest
  23. Will have to ask Jim, whether everything is still on his VR after the trip back down from Scotland  Tempest
