Car wash? Only stuck the Rado in twice, each time was after driving through heavy snow and gritted roads whilst in Germany during Xmas, because I wanted an undercarwash. The car wash was crap, so at home I rewashed the C by hand. Other than that the C gets washed by me by hand only. The Roccos have never seen anything than me washing them yet, and that's to stay like that :-) Tempest

Who's travelled the furthest for a car in one stint???
Tempest replied to H8RRA's topic in General Car Chat
Not all of us have girlfriends (mad enough) to take along to drive the other car back again ;-), hence airplanes are an ideal means of transport in that case :-) Tempest -

Tempest replied to H8RRA's topic in General Car Chat
Farthest one is my Mk1 Rocco, came all the way from Munich, although I did have it transported across (after I'd been out by plane twice to view the car). Second farthest one was for my current Rado, flight up to Aberdeen from B'ham, took the Rado with me, and drove the 600 odd miles back again, great :-) Crazy? Nah, just dedicated  Tempest -
If sufficient interest exists, I can get the original VWoA Corrado bras, which have a little Corradologo on the right front section (when looking at the Rado at the front). Tempest

As mentioned before these 2 Rado models are based on 2 cars belonging to members of a German Corradoforum, who drove their Rados to Revell in Germany to have dimensions and loads of pictures taken :-) Tempest

First pictures of the Revell models are available !!! Don't forget, these are still prototypes, yes there are even prototypes of models  http://www.stuggitown-online.de/hp/ Tempest

My jabba charger had the oil seals pushed in too far, which is why it leaked oil, as Darren found out, when I had him overhaul mine back in November 2004. Tempest

How is this grille spoiler attached? Would be interesting to find out, if it's any different to the Rieger/Jom ones. Tempest

 I did tell off my C when I caught her talking to this FTO, but all I got was that there's finally a car on the back alley (other than my 3 Karmann coupes, of course), that's remotely interesting, or whether I wanted my C to talk to the Pug 206s and Focusses etc. instead ? Think I need to re-educate my C, "No talking to cars other than Karmanns!" Tempest
-
I leave my C parked outside (as I don't have a 3rd garage ) on my back alley just in front of the Mk1 Rocco's garage, right opposite of the Mk2 Rocco's garage, so they're all close together, and they can do their Type 53-talk while I'm out working  Anyway, when I came home yesterday evening, I went out to my C to do some more work, and lo and behold, a Mitsubishi FTO was parked right up my C's ar*e. Luckily enough not bumped into my C  It was still there this morning, when 2 blokes came and drove off. Didn't get a chance to talk, I was busy underneath the dash  Sounded nice the V6 engine, although the power steering sounded a bit shaky  Tempest

Or the genuine Karmann Corrado keychain, that I was given as a present by those that joined in on the Karmann trip last September (once again: Big thanks for that, folks!). Too good to use, so it's kept in my Type 53 memorabilia box, which is taken to shows etc. :-) Tempest

Forgot about petrol cars & their fuel consumption!
Tempest replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Nah, still missing leccy seatbelts, cruise control, airco  Still a tidy car, and for 1000 quid, a real bargain  Go for it, store it somewhere in the meantime till you can afford to run it etc. (I don't think they'll come much cheaper than this), slowly even do some work on it, all at your own pace, while you keep on driving the Golf on a daily basis. That's how I'd do it :-) Took me about 5 months from import till actual registration with my Mk1 Rocco :-) Tempest -

Steering wheel's on the wrong side . Corrado's were meant to be LHD, as they were designed and built in Germany for primarily the German market :-) Nice alloys on that valver, almost thought for a minute it was my C, as mine's got the same alloys (Momo Arrows) and the same colour (alpine white). 1000 quid? Gosh, tempted for a daily driver (as so far I've not been successful with buying bulk standard cars for daily use ). Jim, go for it, I would even look after it for you, as my hands are itching again to do some work (running out on my 3 :-) ). Tempest -

Did I read "valver"? What happened to VR6-plans? Could always just go up that incremental step and go for a G60, now there's fun :-) The German TDI is still available, Zoran chip awaiting, too :-) Tempest -

*tinglingsoundofRadokeyson Tempest'skeychain* Sod the fuel consumption: My business partner also complains and complains about the high fuel consumption of his Audi S4 (Turbo Quattro 230 bhp 20V engine, that's the start of it, can take this much higher, if his wife let's him ), but then when you do plant your foot down, yes, that roar, that thrust, lovely :-) Tempest -
Seen that one at Dirk's back in December, not bad. Although they're offered by a UK-person, they're popular as heck in Germany :-) Tempest
-
Surely Stuttgart ;-) Don't forget that a large proportion of their high costs is shipping :-( Tempest

Officially listed on Revell's website :-) http://www.revell.de/de/produkte/modellbau/modellbau/suchergebnis/?id=203&cmd=search&L=0&q=corrado&x=0&y=0 Tempest

Karmann looking at scrapping another 1000 jobs !!
Tempest replied to Tempest's topic in General Car Chat
More doom and gloom in Osnabrück's morning newspapers for Karmann. An interview with their current CEO revealed no better news, unfortunately. Karmann is more and more becominmg the victim of modern production factories, so-called "breathing factories", where people are just hired and fired according to production needs, as if they were just tools or machinery, like junk in other words. Disgraceful of what's become of modern capitalism :-( Tempest -
OK, it's all in German, hot off the press so to speak, but here's the bad news: http://www1.ndr.de/ndr_pages_std/0,2570,OID2250190,00.html In essence because of diminishing sales of the Crossfire, production is stagnating, and Karmann have overcapacity at the birthplace of our beloved coupes, Osnabrück. Another reason is generally the slow new car sales market leading to overcapacity at big shifters like VW, Opel etc., hence they no longer need to outsource to Karmann. The Rheine plant, where the A4 cabrio is made, seems to be OK for the moment. VW: BUILD THE NEW ROCCO AT KARMANN IN OSNABRÜCK, not in bl**dy Portugal !!!!! Tempest
-
Correct :-) You can run all VW engines built since the 60s on unleaded, but yes, the KR (1.8 16V) prefers 98 octane fuel just like its 8V-sibling, the DX (2nd generation GTI-engine). Tempest

G60 cam belt & tensioner / cam shaft seal replacement
Tempest replied to _leon_'s topic in Engine Bay
Admittedly I just went for all VAG stuff, when I did my belts and tensioners on all 3, and the intermediary shaft seal on my Storm Rocco. Tempest -
Careful with ETKA diagrams, I'd say, going on what's happened on a few German forums and their admins. Tempest

G60 cam belt & tensioner / cam shaft seal replacement
Tempest replied to _leon_'s topic in Engine Bay
Changing the cambelt and tensioner isn't too big a job (not quite as easy as on my Roccos, but do-able; did all belts and tensioners on all 3 cars last September, took my time, patience helped.). Not had experience with changing the selas though, only on a DX-engine block, where it was pretty easy. Tempest -
I think you'll find that given the launch of the new "Scirocco" will also ater to the Rado driver. Also bear in mind that the VW people actually did ask us in Berlin, whether they should call the new sports coupe a "Scirocco" or a "Corrado", so they're not quite sure themselves yet  Our answer? Well, if it won't do justice to the Mk1 or the Mk2 Rocco, then just call it a Corrado  The few Rado-owners present (i.e. me and 1 or 2 others, but we all have Roccos, of course) then hastily added, that if it wouldn't do justice to the Rado either, they should just call it a Golf  Tempest
