  1. Oh well, dunno what that chap in the picture is up to, p*ss artist, but it did taste nice  Tempest

    boost leak

Or do the old boost display on the MFA diagnostic mode 2 trick. That is if your vacuum sensor still works, as I suspect it doesn't on mine, but then again, Stealth has yesterday confirmed that I have no boost leaks, the Lader is producing 0.68 bar nicely with standard pulley and IC. Tempest
  3. Cough, cough  The Rado was built in a LHD country for LHD conditions, that's one of the reasons why in the end I also decided for a LHD Rado. OK, I do know that GB was the 2nd biggest market for the Rado, but still  Hav fun getting that trophy for best Rado :-) Tempest
  4. Sorry to hear about your mate, Jim, as we met up yesterday at Stealth. I walked out of the workshop area into the counter area, while Vince parked up my Rado at the front, whilst your mate was waiting. He thought I was Vince , then realised who I was :-) I nearly told him I'd do the fitment of pads and disks for him, glad I didn't if he didn't have the right disks anyway  Changed front disks and pads on my Rado over the summer, went for Zimmerman disks and Pagid FR, both from GSF, can't remember how much the whole lot came out to, but was OK. Tempest
  5. Not really, and neither did Vince at Stealth yesterday (after having found the reason for my power loss during the RR day). Changed: BTS (several times) FPR (several times) ECU + chips (several) fuel pump + sender CO-Pot (plus tried different settings) checked ECU loom several times knock sensor fuel hoses in engine bay fuel filter was already changed by previous owner clip on fuel filter hose (small leak spotted during last summer) checked: fuel pressure switch fuel pressure fuel delivery rate (prompted me to change the pump) injectors for leaks through spark plug hole (wet piston crowns or not) fuel pump relais ignition switch dizzy cap and rotor, spark plug leads and plugs, Hall sensor (several times, have been replaced 2x by previous owner, too, as he wanted to track down a stutter problem at 2500 and 3000 rpm, which simply turned out to be incorrect ignition timing, as I myself found out , no more stutter ever since) None of the above solved the problem or checked out as faulty (other than the fuel delivery rate, which was consistently 100 ml less than the minimum value of 500 ml over a 30 s period at 4 bar counter pressure). Yesterday morning when setting off to Stealth, the Rado started up without hesitation. Last night, after I'd taken the Rado in to work coming back from Stealth, it did stutter again for 2 seconds or so after firing up. Never does this on starts with the engine warm. The only thing that Vince did suggest to check was the fuel pressure over an extended period of time (rather than just 10 minutes or so), like overnight. If after several hours there is no more pressure, then it could still very well be a leaking injector. PS: G60Dub: Canterbury? I'm down there quite regularly these days due to work. Could meet up one day, when I'm next down there, and bring along some testing kit, if required :-) Always good to have a Rado-meet at the end of a long day at work so far away from home :-)
  6. Last time I went to my local Lidl, I simply went for all of them  Jim: If you're up for a trip to Steve in Brum this Saturday (need to collect some bits and pieces, as I owe Steve some dosh as well, and wanted to do a bit of Rado-tinkering), then we could always on the way (before or after) raid the Lidl again :-) Last time I went they definitely still didn't have Gewürzketchup, but as Lidl continuously try out new products from Germany in their UK branches, one day you may find the long-awaited Gewürzketchup :-) Tempest (on withdrawal already from a mad 2 days in Germany)
  7. Of course, we all were, that's why we went by public transport :-) At the end of the evening we could only go back by taxi. Dirk's wife had booked 2 cabs, we were 9 people, and obne of the cabs already had 2 passengers in there, who'd literally stolen our cab. So Dirk's wife very diplomatically (harsh tone of voice) told them to feck off, which worked  The problem was that 9 people did not quite fit into 2 normal saloons (taxi company's mistake), so one of us, not me, decided to hide in the boot of the saloons (I told you this whole thing was mad ), but couldn't shut up. The taxi driver ultimately kicked us out, which is when I told him off in a friendly manner, to which him being a typical cab driver, I suppose called me an Arschloch (dictionary time). Now, you never ever call a customer an Arschloch, which is when I completely freaked out. I don't know whether any footage exists of that  In the end we did find a slightly less conscentious cab driver who was willing to take us home for an extra fee of 25 Euros  Ah well, it all added to the excitement  Tempest
  8. Yes the one Dirk should have put into his Rado instead of the new one he bought off ebay, and which went pop. This Hungary lader (Zoran et al) is reliable, even has undergone the RS treatment, polished outer casing, 70 mm pulley to go with it hmmmm .... The guy Dirk sold his Rado to didn't want it, as he's doing a turbo-conversion, so out it came again (was in Dirk's Rado just for the RR day beginning of October, where it delivered very nice boost indeed). Yes, sorry, my mistake, quick typo whilst at work again, stress as usual. Can't see the problem. Also had a 70 mm pulley in there with 3 sets of smoked indicators for Mk2 Roccos (group buy time again). In the past I've already taken various bits backwards and forwards like that, but admittedly never a G-Lader in an oily rag  Tempest
  9. No, as I was clever enough to make my mate do a U-turn on his way home to come and pick up the Lader again . We'll have to see, how we're gonna get the Lader across to me now, probably at Roadstar, when both of us will have proper cars with us again, rather than airplanes and accompanying security staff  The problem with the Lader was that it was wrapped in an oily rag, which they felt was too flammable and hence wouldn't allow it on board. Well they just felt the whole thing was too flammable, as they did not distinguish between the rag and the Lader. When I told them what it was "It's a G-Lader!" I justy got blank stares  I then added, "A bit like a turbocharger!", slightly less blank stares   Tempest
  10. Some incriminating evidence then, not my piccies  http://forum.rowi.net/read.php?f=10&i=15028&t=14878#reply_15028 Er yes, we were having a good time  Those piccies are just the ones so far for public broadcasting  Tempest
  11. Nope, just the bhp and torque loss. The starting problem wasn't there this morning when I first started my Rado up from cold, and Vince having gone through everything I've done so far with me couldn't pinpoint it either. All he suggested is to hook up my fuel pressure manometer for a whole night, and see what the pressure does, rather than just over a 20 mminute period. If I don't have any pressure left, then it's still an injector leaking. If not, he's at a loss as well, and I guess I'll just have to hope it somehow has vanished like this morning  (in which case it was the fuel pump after all) Tempest
  12. Just re-read my post, and spotted the mistake: It's Lebkuchen, not Lebekuchen, must have been pissed again at that time. Oh well, the pictures speak for themselves of what's happened over the last 2 days, sham it's over. Yes, every Lidl in the UK does all sorts of German Xmas goodies, imported and sold at reasonable (not delicatessen) prices, including Lebkuchen. I have plenty at home, bought from my local Lidl in Bilton nr Rugby. But guys, don't you start emptying the Lidls out from all this stuff, as otherwise ther won't be anything left for me  Gewürzsoße or Currysoße, Gewürzketchup, are all common names for this stuff. Yeah, I agree, but don't forget the blasted security personnel/checks at airports: Here I was, my mate Dirk just had dropped me off at his local airport, checked in, took the case with the more expensive and breakable items with me as cabbin luggage, and bunged the rucksack with soft stuff into the hold (Ryanair only allow 1 item in the cabbin). Arrived at the security check, case went through the X-ray, "What's inside? Open it up and show us!" I did. "What's that?" "A G-Lader!" The rag it wrapped in, smelt of oil. "You can't take that on-board, it smells of oil. You can't even put that in the hold." "What do you want me to do now?" "I don't care!" Oh well, made Dirk come back again to take the Lader home. In hindsight, if we had wrapped it in something else, I probably would have been able to get it past the security bods. But after today's results at Stealth, where the sieve that I've fitted in the boost pipe leading to the intercooler (to prevent debris from a potentially blown-up Lader from getting into the intercooler and engine) was removed and my Rado was pumping out good values for bhp and torque again, and Vince more or less gave me the rubber stamped approval of the engine's excellent health, I don't need that Lader so urgendtly any more, current Lader boost is at 0.68 bar (=10 psi). All in all, excellent time, shame it went so quickly. :-( Tempest
  13. Actually that was the intention, but in actual fact I have 3 toy cars, after I realised the speciality of having bought a US-spec Rado  It already is since the end of September  Can you afford it though, now that you're used to the economy of diesels? Well after today's visit to Stealth (and only 3 hours of sleep ever since I'm back from Germany) and after removal of a sieve that I've fitted in the bosst pipe leading to the intercooler (to prevent a potentially blown up Lader to spit its guts into the intercooler and engine), my Rado spat out power and torque values again at correct revs, so the verdict was: The Rado's healthy as can be, everything's fine (timing, CO, boost of 0.68 bar=10psi), and nope, the ideas of selling have died a death, now that I also have a nice shiny new 70 mm pulley courtesy of my mate Dirk in my luggage from Germany (the one thing bloody customs didn't take away from me, after they'd refused to let the Lader go through ) Tempest Tempest
  14. Try Lidl in the UK, they have Lebekuchen aplenty. Still i n D, had some Glühwein, yummee :-) Loads of pinball sessions on real 80 and 90s pinball machines :-), courtesy Dirk´s toys Tempest
  15. Sober again, well at least I think, but we´re off to the Xmas Market in Karlsruhe in a few minutes :-) The Audi Coupe did tempt me again, oh yes, the sound of that extra pot is addictive :-) Let´s see whether I have space left to tkae stuff back, a G-Lader perhaps ? Piccies should follow shortly :-) Tempest
  16. ... for a major piss-up tonight, struggling with a German keyboard, but already having driven my mate´s 5-cyl. Audi coupe, nice roar :-) Still sober as well   Tempest
  17. Oh well, after having read Hammond´s book entitled "What cars to avoid" or similar at Stansted Airport today (on my trip to Germany), where it said in the section on classic cars that the Rado was worth keeping, too few had been made, I suppose I might as well keep mine  Tempest
  18. Yes, that's the one, owned by Springer Verlag, same people behind Bild and Autobild in Germany. Not highly rated as their style is very tabloidish. Tempest

    ELSA

Yup, Chris aka RW1 is right. A mate of mine over in D and me managed to get the programme to run eons ago, but then soon realised that there is indeed not a lot of interesting stuff in there for Rocco and Rado-owners. Tempest
  20. Thanks for your opinions, but I'm not leting her go for just 2000 or even 2500. The fact that it's a LHD putting people off amuses me somewhat, as surely say in the upper market sports cars section (Porsches and Ferraris) people wouldn't care, as as long as a car is unique, different to what's available otherwise, then that, i would have thought, already drives up the price and makes a potential future owner get used to where the steering wheel is located. I for one also initially disliked the fact that my Storm Rocco was RHD (being a LHD-user, having done my license in D, being used to driving on the right hand side of the road with LHD cars etc.), but very quickly got used to it, as my desire to own a Storm Rocco was definitely bigger than my fright or whatever you want to call it of having to cope with a RHD car. The same can be said for say TVR in Germany. Someone over there, who really wants one, doesn't really care where the steering wheel is. Nope, as there were about 1000 US-spec Rados sold in Germany, 500 of which were sent back from the States, and 500 never even made it across the big pond, all because of failing to meet US strict emissions. My US-Rado has in actual fact been sold and driven over in the States, making it quite unique and genuine. But yeah, would have to agree that the 2nd hand car market generally is in a slump at the moment. Oh well, will have to keep her a bit longer then ... One of the reasons, and I then had this feeling that Jim must have had as well, when he sold his: Wanting to have a more sensible car, that you just throw petrol into (and possibly a bit of oil ), that does not cost much in terms of time and money, don't care whether it looks nice or handles well, as long as it gets me from a to b and back again cheap (i.e. a reliable banger, more from a utilitarian definition of the word car). But unlike Jim, I would then still have 2 toycars to play around with :-), where I obviously apply totally different criteria (and am willing to further sink money into :-) ), but both my Roccos meet those criteria admirably :-) Tempest
  21. No, I just spend time driving up and down the country at the moment for work in the company white Escort van with a whopping 55 bhp  The thing pulls away reasonably well, even in higher gears, but as most non-turboed diesels do, it runs out of steam, and certainly won't pull away from stand-still in second gear, unlike the C and my Storm Rocco :-) Tempest
  22. Bump! Anyone any idea, or am I right in thinking it's shot my vacuum sensor? Tempest
  23. Is the display permanent, i.e. does it display this value even when idling or when the engine is turned off (still need to take the MFA in its diagnostic mode, of course)? If so, you may have a leak somewhere in the vacuum hoses or more likely the vacuum sensor is shot. Tempest
  24. Oops, yeah forgot, just under 106K, 1990, G-reg. Alpinewhite. Deal .... NOT! That sounds promising :-) Any more opinions? Tempest
