Hey dude, these wheels look sh*t hot mate :luvlove:

Oof thats a bit tight on the old caliper, reckon you need to be looking at 2-3mm clearance in the least to allow for bumps/ knocks from the road and general flex and G- force pressures from driving. Be a bit nasty to hit a pothole and feel a clunk clunk clunk from the caliper mashing the backs of the spokes :gag:

From your pics showing the front and rear wheels, now you've said that the fronts are 11mm wider than the rears, you can notice it. Is there anyway to lift to back to allow for some spacers but not be too high for you? Would you consider going back to standard brakes to run with these wheels with no spacers?

Keep up the good work mate

Thanks Matt!! Yeh the last thing I want is for the caliper to befriend the alloys in a disastrous circumstance!!

As said, when I pick up these (4x) 13mm spacers tomorra (well, today now), Im gonna make sure they fit the fronts 1st with a decent 2mm or so clearance, see how it looks, then fit the same on the rears (at the same time raising it a bit), then mix and match by maybe lifting the front up a bit to compensate (I love the sight of a car being level, Im not keen on the front being slightly lower than the rear) :D

I would definately not go back to 280's tho, I think the system still needs a bit of bleeding, but there's such a difference between the 288's and 280's without this that I wouldn't wanna go back!

Thanks Jake mate! Haha, nah the Scooby wheels were all good man, was gonna try and get some of these Scoob Speedlines:

scoobyspeedline.jpg[/attachment:ijvoy0oh]

After thinking of getting Robert's rims from him we wasn't sure if the deal was gonna go down or not so these were a backup (Normally hate gold rims, but after the new ones for some reason I wanted to try a gold wheel ) I think it goes well with the green!

Anyways, picked up the spacers today from my mate, 4x 13mm FK Hubcentric ones. Was suprised that all 4 haven't even been taken out of the packet so that was a bonus!! Funky fresh :thumbleft:

Whacked them on the front's and left the back unspaced, for now. In this hot sun and with the game coming on, and going to a local rock festival in the evening, I really couldn't be bothered to raise the back up and space it out!! So the front is 13mm wider than the backs atm. TBH I just really wanted to go for a spin in the sun with my new rims for the 1st time!!

The clearance now is about 3mm, which Im happy with. There was a little rubbing on my side, and with 4 people in there was a bit more rubbing from the front, but none from the back which was pleased about.

New pix to follow soon with all 4 new rims on (previous pix only had them on drivers side!) :D

If you want to space out the back best way is to use stub axle spacers, theres a guy on clubgti doing them fairly cheap. Keep the bearings from getting stressed more than they need.

Wheels look good although if it were me the gold would be long gone.

Well, I proper failed at getting any pix of the new rims up - apologies! I didn't really drive the car much with them on, was having nasty rubbing issues at the back (at least I assume it was rubbing, there's now cracked paint on the N/S/R arch :( ), juddering at high speeds, and juddering when braking at high speeds with em on :(

I EVENTUALLY decided to have a look at what was going on, the spigot rings that came with the rims didn't fit nice over the spacer locating ring, they were too tight but didn't realise this when I put them on as I just put the rings into the rims, and bolted the wheels to the car with the spacer on the hub!!

So I bought some new ones, and they fit fine and spin freely around the hub ring. Anyways for some reason I assumed it was just the spacer that the spigot rings were fouling on, so only swapped the front 2 spigot rings around - d'oh!!

The juddering continued to annoy me til I was back at my mum's one day a couple of weeks ago where I keep the Speedlines, and decided to swap the rears for the Speedlines. Couldn't get the Speedline on, why? I looked at the hub and the spigot ring was wedged right on, with a good 1-2mm gap between it and the hub! So I got the rear speedies on, took it for a spin and suprise suprise the high speed juddering had gone away! :D Braking juddering was still there so to rule out the wheels causing it (the front's were spaced out remember) I put the speedies back on the front too, went for a spin, brake juddering still there!

Got some new discs in the post from GSF as the others had only been around 1k and assumed they've warped, but I think they're ok as I've used them a bit since and it seems to be getting better? (car hasn't been used much since they've been on mind :confused4: )

I also managed to pull a muscle in my neck/right shoulder area when lifting the wheels up and down my mum's many steps upto the road and into the back garden etc, which didn't come on for a day or 2, but when it did I gotta admit that's the most pain I've ever experienced in my life, not being able to turn my head or lie on my side to sleep or anything! :( Because of this, I didn't put the rims back on with the new found knowledge of my problems.

TBH, due to there being no juddering when driving fast, I don't really care Im quite glad to have the trouble-free speedies back on

BUT, they will come back on for the dry season next year.

(well done if u've read this far, LOL)

Anyways, got back from ed38 today and Kempy took a quick vid of me going past on the way home :D

I had a similar problem year ago on a Mk2 with some alloys. The wheels bolts came loose as a result though. TBH I prefer it with the Speedlines on.

man i've had this before, i couldn't move my head at all either, even lying in bed hurts.

i'm a fan of the dark speedlines, but definitely try different rings or spacers next year, as the green/ gold combo is sweet looking too 8)

Hey mate. Every time I see this thread your car gives me huge inspiration! Such a lovely example, I really admire the OEM+ look you have achieved (intentional or not). I love the speedies, but as said above the green/gold look is also really good, tough choice!!

I've been back through to have a look but I can't seem to find the info, have you got 288's on the front and mk4 callipers with standard carriers on the rear?

Going for red callipers was the right decision IMO, they look amazing in the video drive-by posted above!

Nasty, at least my bolts stayed on, I guess. Although to be fair I didn't cover many miles at all...

Yeh definately, I had to sleep sat up lol!! Yeh Im thinking of raising it a bit in the dry weather next yr, and spacing out both the fronts and backs. I know the rings I have now fit fine so that's all good :)

Hey dude, haha thanks mate I appreciate your love for it! :) Yeh I think both sets look pretty smart, but I was always gonna put the Speedies back on for Winter, just a shame they went back on earlier than planned!

Yes bud, 288's on the front from a late mk3 VR, and mk4 rear calipers, the carriers don't actually fit on the Corrado, as I found out  I painted them all up, re-furbed the slider pins, new seals, nice new grease, took em to DG and because the mk4 discs are slightly thicker than 'rado ones, the carriers are offset slightly so they don't line up lol! So don't make that mistake bud, u gonna get yours done then?

Thanks man, one of the reasons I did 'em red was due to the amount of time and effort I put in 'linishing' all the brake dust and crud off them with my cord drill, I wanted to be able to see the results of what I spent all that time on  Besides, red and green does look good as u say :D

New shoes are looking smart mate.

I have to say one of the nicest green rados ive seen.

Also, think you said peter north or somehting, basically how much did you pay for those recon-ed calipers, ive ran my pads down to the point that i looked at why my break fluid was leaking and found out there wasnt a pad in the caliper anymore....

I need a new caliper, wandering how much they are etc...

Cheers mate

Peter North? Isn't he a porn star?

I got the front's (288mm's) off ebay for something stupid like £25 delivered and got the rear mk4's off a mk4 forum dude, then totally grinded the $hit out of them until they were pretty clean, then painted them up and fitted the rubbers - biggred is the place to go to get re-con'd calipers :D

Thanks tho for the compliment dude :)

ahaha sound mate.

Not sure of the porno guy but i just didnt really bother reading it then in my head made up a random name....

Cheers for that anyway mate but im 4x100 ay it so id need more funds in order to get that 280 kit...

Im basically having to buy a new caliper at least so i figured i mayaswell see what else i can get for around the same price, well cheap as chips really.....

Only reason i polished those wheels is because they looked crap and i had no money for bbs etc ...

I have to say i do notice on here, if you dont have split rims and a walet that pulls your trowsers down which youve invested into your car then, no ones botherd.

Bit sad really, i like to see both budget and show car style builds, is always good when you can see time has been spent getting your car how you want instead of asking some todger to do it for you, then hand some paper over.

Not entirely sure what's involved with upgrading ur fronts to a 280mm setup, but I think you can get 4x100x280mm discs so ud just need the calipers/carriers/new discs and pads...i think. Lemme know if u decide to go through with that mate I got my old 280's sat here (which had only covered around 63k)

I dunno dude, I like to think everyone appreciates everyones motors on here - I mean there is a few that have loads of money spent on them sure, and a lot that kinda haven't, but I think this forums quite easy going in that respect and understands people's finanical limits/experience etc!

I mean I haven't got BBS' and I've had a few compliments :) And the only serious money I invested in my car was the initial purchase and suspension, which I still haven't paid for

I think on this forum everyone has their own opinions, and that is great IMO. You got the OEM people, the 'scene' people, then there's OEM+, all go no show, etc etc. Such a great mix, but best of all you don't get all the stupid/offensive/flaming comments that are prevalent on other forums for not conforming to the latest fashion. I love this car, I think it's OEM+ and it is basically how I want my car to be - minus a turbo :D
