Vmax 0 Posted March 27, 2004 Anyone ever heard of an R32 diesel? I certainly hadn't, but just spotted this: click here! on Autotrader. 1 of only 5 made?! Jamie '93 Aqua blue VR6 *Mod edit - Link shortened - Henny*
Phil K 0 Posted March 27, 2004 Never heard of that - wonder how it compares to the petrol one?
dr_mat 0 Posted March 27, 2004 205bhp? Given that it's a diesel this is probably delivered at 4000rpm, so it's probably about as fast as the petrol one, if not faster! I wonder how much torque it produces? Gotta be over 300lbft...
dazzyvr6 0 Posted March 27, 2004 didnt even know they made an r32 diesel, cant even find any info on the vw web site either :?
jedi-knight83 0 Posted March 27, 2004 never heard about those but maybe they were a bit of an experiment as i understand the flagship golf MK5 will be deisel driven
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted March 27, 2004 Diesel ...Naaaaa :? : just dosent sound right "R32 Diesel" ?!!
Vmax 0 Posted March 27, 2004 Would be very interested to hear what engine is in this, anyone think it's a souped up TDi with the R32 body? Had a look at the pics in the magazine, it certainly looks like an authentic R32, no pics of the engine though :? Funnily enough, there's a nice silver R32 parked outside my flat just now 8) Think it's a petrol one though  Jamie '93 Aqua blue VR6
chrishill 0 Posted March 28, 2004 it does say "only 5 ever made"
chubbybrown 0 Posted March 28, 2004 But would it go in a C ? (A decent Diesel ) I know everyone goes on about 1.8T etc but the economy and speed would be a good trade off for me. :D
Henny 0 Posted March 28, 2004 There is someone on here who's done one... It was making around 180BHP with 220lbft torque IIRC... 8) Oh, and 50+MPG! :D
dr_mat 0 Posted March 28, 2004 Thought it was more like 280 lbft torque? Even the current 150bhp TDi Golf produces torque in the high 200 lbft range.
dr_mat 0 Posted March 28, 2004 Sorry, it's 280Nm torque for the 1.9 PD, and 115bhp, so if you've got close to 200bhp I'd expect to see close to 400Nm torque.. Which is um 285 lbft! :)
stormseeker 0 Posted March 28, 2004 At the Dubsport RR day in Jan there was a Seat Ibiza TDi, which made 269lbft
Henny 0 Posted March 28, 2004 Sorry, my bad, it was a typo... should have been 180BHP and around 320lbft...
Timo. 0 Posted March 29, 2004 At the Dubsport RR day in Jan there was a Seat Ibiza TDi, which made 269lbft  when they floor it you cant see anything for 2 minutes. Black cloud!!! 8) timo
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 29, 2004 when they floor it you cant see anything for 2 minutes. Black cloud!!! 8) timo Not any more! That's a legacy of NA diesels and non-common rail technology. Modern diesels tend to give a slight puff when booting it. If you get major black clouds then the tuner is a muppet because they're cramming too much fuel into the engine. Follow a BMW 330 D driving quite hard and you'll see what I mean....that is if you can keep up! Can't find any info about the R32 diesel online anywhere, so the engine remains a mystery but it's very likely to be a tuned 2.0 TDi 4 pot, or maybe the 2.5 V6 TDI out of the Passat, but that's only 167bhp. chubbybrown 0 Posted April 7, 2004 So Techheads would it be an easy transplant ? cheapo 16 valver and drop in a 6 speed pd engine I wonder if it would make it heave on the front.......... :?
Henny 0 Posted April 7, 2004 no engine transplant of that magnitude is easy, but it has been done by a couple of people who have posted on here.... It's supposed to be a very good conversion with bags of torque and plenty of BHP as well as returning 50+ MPG!
