seanl82 23 Posted October 17, 2014 Finally, after 10 weeks she's back in the workshop ready for re-assembly. Workmanship is very good, although there are a few minor imperfections but not really in noticeable areas. I've got to take it back to them to do a few bits once its back on the road that they missed, and they've agreed to sort. I'll explain shortly, but I don't want to get negative about it. I've got to remember its a 2.5k paint job not a concourse job, yet still very well done. Anyway, it started raining lightly on the way back and as the sunroof mech was out, I needed to get it in asap. Photos are therefore of it indoors unfortunately, and phone pics too. Its times like this I wish I had a decent camera. Anyway, You may have seen, there are a couple of areas around the door shuts that are a little rough, so could have done with polishing/sanding slightly, although its not as bad as the pics suggest - most of it is just sanding dust. Its just the hard to reach areas really which as I said, a concourse car would obviously have done. There are one or two areas where there are pig tails from sanding under the paint, but its very minimal. There is one slight run on the lacquer on the edge of the tailgate which they've agreed to put right, as well as this below. I think they've been a bit lazy with the slam panel, as they masked the parts which won't be visible, and didn't do the top of it. I know its there though, so it'll really bug me. They've agreed to sort that too, so I'll remove it and give it to them to do. They also didn't do the underside of the bonnet either which considering they top part was bare metal, seems a bit daft. Other than that though I am quite pleased, and I would use them again. They've given me a touch up pot too in case I have any accidents whilst installing everything! In other news, my splitter arrived from Heritage today, so I'll plough on with installing most of it Monday.
robrado974 1 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Looking great Sean . I have a few imperfections in mine too , very small tiny ones . It's not a factory machine spray , no filler was needed from new , so there will be a few niggly bits . My costing was 2.5 k as well . What you have turned this car into is amazing really , when you look at the first pics . Also it's very hard when you have a freshly painted car , you notice every speck of dirt and fuss over it lol . I have a couple of small stone chips and a scratch on the drivers door . Tbh , now I think , oh well it's there to be driven not sat on a show stand . Well done for everything you have done so far mate . Edit . It's my birthday on the 23rd , on my list was a splitter , you better have not nicked the last one lol Edited October 17, 2014 by robrado974
sexybourbon 0 Posted October 17, 2014 Looking good bud nearly there it will look fantastic when it's done , how come they didn't do the slam panel then did they just forget
mic_VR 3 Posted October 18, 2014 Looks great Sean, got to be happy with that! There's always little bits that you notice, that's part of being obsessed with these damn cars! They didn't do the slam panel on mine, and I guess that was a time/cost thing. axcel01uk 0 Posted October 18, 2014 Looks fantastic, the imperfections can be easily sorted, like others have already said when u look at the unloved car in the first pages of this thread and then look at it now , what a transformation. So good seeing the car turnaround like this, superb and work hats off to you.
seanl82 23 Posted October 18, 2014 Thanks again guys, appreciate the positive comments. :thumbleft: I'm not sure why they didn't do it, I gave them a list of bits I wanted doing as I know some would cut corners on as it would be easy to mask, like shuts, inner door and tailgate, the bottom part where the windscreen sits, and I'm sure I put slam and underside of bonnet. Maybe they did forget but most likely it was them running out of time (they quoted 2-4 weeks and it took 10 though, so I think it was an inbetween job). They're sorting it at a later date for free though so its not the end of the world. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in getting it back together though! Just need to keep the itch at bay over the weekend as it's "family time"
Tigerfish 10 Posted October 18, 2014 Does look very good. Will be awesome once it comes back together. Whilst I love my C, I won't ever love it enough to spend that kind of loot on it, so I'm glad there are those about that are willing to do it. Well done :)
seanl82 23 Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) Quite a productive day today. All exterior trim is now on, including wing mirrors and splitter (not pictured) and all red rears. I've stripped the dash out, and removed almost all the interior looms. I've also replaced the entire ABS sysem loom, and made good a few bits with proper soldering and heatshrink. I'll get some close ups of some of the looms. Honestly you've probably never seen anything like it in your life! Absolutely a fire waiting to happen! Re-wrapped most of the new looms too, and roughly put everything back in ready for routing around the dash when it goes back in. I've had to take the fusebox mount out and sraighten it up too as that was bent well out of shape. I'll then have the unenvious task of plugging it all back into the fusebox, whilst trying to keep the wiring tidy behind it. Once thats done I need to change the ABS pump, then fingers crossed I'll have a working system! I've got some Kunifer pipe and a proper flare nut spanner so I'll be able to do the 288mm upgrade that beat me the other day, as the hoses didn't want to part with the hard pipes. I think I'll then be almost there............. Pics. :) My speaker wiring! I've also found out I need a new set of wiper stalks which luckily Goldie is bringing down with him as well as a new set of dash undertrays, as the connector plug clips had snapped off, so whoever it was decided it would be a good idea to glue them in! :censored: Edited October 24, 2014 by seanl82

Hairyarse 10 Posted October 24, 2014 That looks really nice. Loving the all red rears ;-)
seanl82 23 Posted October 24, 2014 Thanks fellas! Rog, it'll be a good example come the end.... whenever that may be! The problems I've had is that I've had to spend a fortune on things that generally don't often get touched and are out of sight or not often noticed. Whoever has owned it in the past, whilst obviously very enthusiastic, they must have just had a lump hammer and a blunt spoon in the tool box because everything is bodged, cracked, or simply not working. It's these things that have really taken the time and effort to sort, where most cars that have just been left alone or left to the pro's are already at that "normal" level. The only parts of interior loom I haven't had to replace are the tailgate looms and the headlight switch loom strangely enough. 10 hours trying to sort it today and probably that again to finish. seanl82 23 Posted October 24, 2014 Excellent, thanks Rob! :thumbleft: Funny you say that, my rear tub was painted body colour before, but when I took it off for the respray, it cracked as it was bonded on good and proper! I think I preferred it body colour actually. Hmmmm
