holeinmk1 0 Posted April 22, 2014 Been getting a bit sentimental after having a photobucket clearout, so thought i would share my car history with you, feel free to post yours up to! where it all started - 1985 Polo Coupe s(not my car, sadly there all on print- not my image) this was my mum and dads car when i was growing up so its where the vw bug bit i guess. next up mum and dad bought me a 1996 polo hatchback(again not my image but here for completeness) as my first car, i took it for granted really and did'nt treat like i should have done. it got wrote off in the end. a boulder in scotland killed it(who left that there?) Next was my first 'proper' Vw, a mk1 golf 1.1, i loved this car, it was cheap old smelly and broke down(at first) alot but i loved it. it was 100% mine. i later sold it and think it went on to feature in pvw? next was my first 'grown up car', a audi a4. whats to say? good car did what it said on the tin, except for bloody folding down rear seats...trips to ikea where never the same. I then managed to persaude the missus to let me buy a second car, another golf. so i bought this little beauty for £500 next up came my first real project, a 1981 GTI, it never really got off the ground as a project because i was in between training and work(stupid time to start a project but there you go...) ended up sadly selling in bits. still i could sit in it and make engine noises. We then got rid of the GTI and ditched the audi and bought...(fanfare)...a corrado! this where my Corrado love affair begins. a 1991 1.8 16v in diamond silver, we nicknamed her Betty. Betty's engine packed up and we did'nt have time or funds to patch her up so i sold her as a rolling project and bought sid, a 1992 2.0 16v, next i bought a golf vr6 because i'd always fancied a big '6' haha then came pearl, my present Corrado. i think she may be a keeper. and lastly, my daily driver feel free to tell me i'm a boring sod for sharing. all good motors with some really good memories attached. JonnyG60 10 Posted April 22, 2014 I then managed to persaude the missus to let me buy a second car, another golf. so i bought this little beauty for £500 500 quid!? one of the most original and clean Mk2 golfs i've seen!

Portent 0 Posted April 23, 2014 Some lovely VW's there. My history is the following although I don't have many pictures to hand: Golf mk1 1.3 Driver (black 3 door) - My first car and I loved it. Golf mk2 1.6 GL (black 5 door) - I found this a little boring but it was much better condition than the mk1. Scirocco mk2 GTX (light blue/silver) - My first proper car and I really loved it. Golf m2 GTI 16v (Atlas Grey but 5 door) - I sooooooo loved this car and probably the first one I couldn't stop looking at as I got out for petrol). Golf mk3 VR6 Highline (black) - I can still being amazed how good this sounded but sadly it was stolen. TT mk1 225 Coupe (silver, pre-facelift) - Owned for a month before rejecting it back to the dealer for a full refund for having the wrong stereo :D) TT mk1 22 Coupe (Moro blue, facelift) - My only ever new car. Owned for a year and then sold back to the dealer for almost asking price as I was hardly using it. Great car though. Golf mk4 V6 4Motion (Indigo blue, 5 door) - I owned this for over 8 years and selling it was a bit of a mistake really. It was 6 months old when I bought it and was in better condition when I sold it than the mk6 that replaced it. Golf mk6 GTI (grey, 5 door) - Wonderful to drive and a fantastic family car. Currently owned. Corrado VR6 - Love it :)

joebloggsVR69 0 Posted April 23, 2014 Here's my history: 1988 Fiat Uno 45 Fire, 1.0 - It was my first car, and was dreadful. The heaters never worked properly, and it used to cut out at traffic lights all too often... 1988 Golf GTI 8v Campaign Edition - Bought when I was 20, loved it. The build quality was leagues ahead of the Fiat, and I kept the car for about 11 years. 1995 Corrado VR6 Storm - I always wanted a Corrado, so bought it at 26 and still have it. 1991 Corrado G60 - Bought this with a blown charger for £400! Got it fixed and it put out great power for a standard car, 188BHP. Never really liked it that much though, it always felt lacking compared to the VR6.. 2002 Golf Mk4 1.8T Anniversary - My daily driver, love it. Totally standard, drives well and has all the comforts of a modern car. Some other bangers I bought on Ebay, for road trips across Europe: 1986 Golf GTI 8v - Driven from London to Madrid, and was given away to a couple of random girls 1989 Honda Prelude, 2.0 4WS - The best handling car I have ever driven, 4 wheel steering is just incredible. Was given a DIY black paint job, resembling KITT. Driven from London to Italy, and back. Ended up in a scrap yard after a mate took ownership and didn't look after it.. 1990 BMW 520 auto - Not fast at all, but a very comfortable cruiser. Drove like sitting on a cloud, and made me a fan of lazy autos (must be getting old..) Took this from London to upper Sweden and back to London, before another mate took ownership. It ended up getting scrapped, after he didn’t pay parking tickets.... :(

seanl82 23 Posted April 23, 2014 Please don't laugh, I didn't pass my test until I was 25 as the missus was preggers, so decided I needed to learn really! With that in mind, I missed the whole growing up first car thing, and didn't get into it properly until about four years ago. 1. Citroen AX GT. Bought off a family friend for £300 when I was 17, and was supposed to give me the incentive to learn to drive. Alas, it sat on my parents drive for over a year before my cousin bought it. 2. First driven car - mk3 Astra 1.6 Duo! It was a duo as it had twin airbags! Remember the wife was pregnant so needed a reasonable sized car that was cheap to insure for a first time driver! 3. Saab 9-3ss 2.0t Vector Sport. Only 9 months after passing my test, it was surprisingly very cheap to insure! MOT had shown the Astra to not be financially viable to keep on the road, so got this and really loved it! Unfortunately after 18 months, fuel prices rocketed, I had a heavy foot so fuel consumption was shocking, and the missus off work on maternity meant I was struggling to run it. 4. Pug 307 1.6 Rapier. I absolutely hated this car! Fault after fault, and shockingly poorly made. Lasted five months. 5. Mk5 Golf GTTDI 140. Great car and wish I'd kept it longer. Zero problems, but I was kind of getting bored again after 18 months, so sold it privately for the exact same price I bought it trade! 6. Mk2 Focus 1.6. Dull dull dull. Didn't like it so sold it to my sister six months later. 7. Mk3 Golf GTI 8v. I was in a real cushy job but the novelty soon wore off and I was bored. Saw this locally for £200 with no T&T but looked solid to me, so bought it as a project. Still had the focus at the time so wasn't needed for daily duties immediately. A few problems along the way, but I owe my knowledge to this car. Lots of tinkering and an engine swap, introduction to forums and their wealth of useful info, and local VW meets - which led to my love for the Corrado! 8. DBP Corrado 1.8 16v. As above, a white Corrado was following me from Plymouth to Exeter in convoy for a meet. That's where I fell in love really! Couldn't keep my eyes off the rear view mirror and 'had to have one!' As Sig, it was a great car and cemented my love. Unfortunately rear ended whilst Sat at lights 9 months later and written off. 9. Skoda Fabia 1.4 8v........... the missus had learnt to drive a year earlier, and had already had three accidents! So I put my NCB on the line and bought this, putting her on my insurance to try to keep costs down. Was a good wagon and served it's purpose very well, but was slower than an arthritic snail! 10. Current VR. After the valver I had to have another, and it had to be a VR! Read my members gallery if your interested. 11. Saab 9-3ss 1.9 tid. Really liked the first, unfortunately this hasn't lived up to its predecessor. Chuntering on though I suppose and at least now it's reasonably reliable. Had a few in between as stop gaps, mostly Corsas tbh as they're available in abundance, and easy to sell on afterward. Never lost a penny on one either. And that's that. emu 0 Posted April 23, 2014 I bet I'm forgetting something but since 2001 I had - Fiat 125P - Seat Inca - Corrado 2.0 16V Blue - Corrado 1.8 20VT Gold - Golf MK3 2.0 8V - Passat B4 - Astra 1.4 - Golf MK2 - Corrado VR6 Blackberry - Audi S3 on GT28RS - Corrado 20VT Black - Audi Allroad 2.7 BiTurbo - Corrado VR6 Green - Golf MK3 Estate TDI - COrrado VR6 Blackberry - Golf MK4 Estate TDI - Passat B5.5 TDI - Passat B5.5 Estate 2.0 Petrol - EVO 6 371 PS - Passat B5.5 TDI - current daily around 180 PS It works like 20 cars in 13 years. Jim 2 Posted April 23, 2014 My car history is as follows: 1 ) Peugeot 205 Trio (954cc!) - Classic first car. Lady owned shopping trolley. Was a great little car but indescribably slow and almost comical body roll in cornering! 2 ) Corrado 2.0 16v - Where the love affair started.. 3 ) Citroen Saxo VTR - Dumped the Corrado as it was a bit beyond on my budget at the time. VTR was a fun little motor! 4 ) 1992 Corrado G60 - Was a fantastic Corrado. Enthusiast owned for years, had everything done to it. Great car, but again, got very expensive very quickly! 5 ) MK4 Golf PD115 GT TDI - My only eBay bought car.. comfortable, economical, and surprisingly quick. Great stereos in these as standard too. 6 ) Corrado 2.0 16v - The flash red one I had for years! 7 ) Mercedes 200 TE - Freebie from my parents. Ran it alongside the Corrado for a year before trading it in for scrappage for my then girlfriend to get a deal on a new Micra. Regret that a bit now! I love big German cars, especially estate cars. Wasn't quick at all with a 2.0 4 cylinder engine and was rather uncommonly a manual gearbox. But I loved it. Angular early 90's Merc styling, memories of family holidays, and whenever you saw another you always got a wave like you do with Corrado's! 8 ) Corrado VR6 - Had it for four years now.. and my current car :) 9 ) Fiat 500 1.2 Pop - Sweet little motor, and the newest car I'd ever owned - only had 786 miles on the clock when I bought it! Got bored quickly though despite it being really good fun to drive, and being loaded with gadgets. Took so much abuse from people at work too for it being a bit of a girly car! 9 ) Skoda Octavia VRS MK2 - Awesome car. Really quick, really comfortable, looked excellent. But decided I didn't want to run two cars any more and went back to just the Corrado as my daily. 10 ) 1967 Daimler 2.5 V8 Saloon - not got it yet, but will be picking it up in the next month or two as an extended loan from my dad. A classic he bought when I was 11, and it took about a decade to restore. But he just never uses it (done about 500 miles in the last three years!) and wants me to put some miles on it and enjoy it. Which I will! By all accounts it should be cheaper to keep on the road than a Corrado too...

Wullie 1 Posted April 25, 2014 Got me thinking this and I really couldn't give a definitive list as I have got through so many. I used to buy cars from auction, run them for a while and then either sell on or scrap them and off to the auction again. Here's a kind of general list. Mini Morris Minor (Split windscreen) Another Mini Morris 1000 Another Mini Citroen Light 15. 2 year project, stolen after two months on the road Rover 2000 Mini Clubman Ford Anglia Estate Fiat 124 Another Mini Datsun Cherry Austin 1300 Vauxhall Viva Triumph Dolomite Austin Allegro Vauxhall Chevette Talbot Horizon Mini Metro Went to Canada Toyota Corolla Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (Barn find at Farm Closure sale bought for $200, partially restored and sold on return to Scotland for $10,000.) Volkswagen Rabbit Returned to Scotland VW Polo 1.3 CL Formel E VW Scirroco Scala VW Corrado 1.8 16V
martinb 0 Posted April 25, 2014 Ok, here goes...As far as I can remember, although the order may be a little off... first car - Beige '82 Metro...shown after my first "off" when I was 17 mk3 Escort 1.3 with obligatory XR3i alloys and Peco big bore 4. I ended up rolling this car (18 at the time I think)... mk3 Escort XR3i, think I bought its for £50..discovered a buscuit tin riveted over a hole in the passenger side footwell.. mk3 XR3i again, I didnt learn! Much sweeter engine than the previous one but a total rot box.. Black XR2, a lot of fond memories of this car: 1600 Jetta, first VW, got bored very quickly I'm from Essex, naturally another XR3i was next: Series one RST, very cool, very fast....VERY unreliable! Almost cost me my job due to making me late so often! Ropey RS1600i...no pics at this point but I'll come back to this one.... Not sure what I was thinking....pov spec mk4 escort: White 309 GTI, my only French car ever, put me off french cars for good. No pic. Back to Fords with this XR2, always parked on a hill as rarely started in the mornings Then yet another XR2 fitted with mk3 XR2i front bumper, looked scary, possibly previously been in a crash as even scarier handling: BMW E30 318. My only RWD car but sadly without the power to enjoy it: The RS1600i I mentioned earlier? I sold to a mate who was kind enough to restore it for his wife. She hated it, I bought it back. Favourite non VW, would have another (alongside the Corrado) but rare and expensive now: Orion 1600i Ghia , bought so I didnt have to run the RS1600i daily. Drove approximately 2 miles before a deer ran out in the road, the modern volvo in front stopped, I didnt. This probably does not look great for someone who works in car insurance.... Back when I had the S1 RST, on one of the many occasions it was broken a workmate lent me his mk2 Golf GTI. I enjoyed driving it and it felt much better put together than the Fords which by now I was fed up with but wanted something a little more modern than the mk2. Sadly met its end in another collision with a deer (which also met its end).. tbc...
martinb 0 Posted April 25, 2014 Next was the car that got me into VW's big time, my mk2 8v with a diy Turbo conversion using the turbo from a pug 306 turbo diesel. Actually went really well and kept for over 3 years (which was a record for me at this point): Finally my first Corrado (around 2006/2007) - came up for sale local to me and had to have it. Was originally an 1800 KR but ended up putting a 2.0 16v ABF. Really loved this car and kept it even longer than the mk2 turbo: Thats not me btw.... Bought a couple of mk2's for silly cheap, the black one was sold on quickly, the red one was claimed by my wife who kept it for over a year: With Emma driving the red mk2 I decided I needed a sensible family car and bought a Bora, again got bored quickly: Swapped the Bora for an Oak green mk2 with almost 200k on the clock. Good car which I kept a couple of years and ended up looking like this: Also bought a mk1 to play with as well as the Oak Green mk2, sadly turned out to be very rotten and although it could have been saved I didnt have the time or resources at the time and broke it. Made a decent profit breaking it which helped getting the mk2 looking how it ended up: Again decided I wanted a modern car, again got bored quickly. Remapped A3 T-sport was very quick but no character: Really wanted another Corrado by now and a deal was done with the A3 for a red 16v. Loved the car but was somewhat unrealiable and really needed painting to get to the condition I wanted so sold it about 18 months ago: Which is when I purchased my current G60. No plans on changing this one anytime soon.

Goldie 2 Posted April 26, 2014 My History.. Mk2 Ford Fiesta 1.1 Mk3 For Fiesta 1.1 My conclusion from these two was that the Mk2 was loads better and fueled dreams of RS this and Cosworth that.. Never had one so far.. 1999 Ford Escort 1.6 16v, good car at the time, had 20k on it.. 2002 Seat Leon TDI, suppose this is where the VW bug started for me (was 6 months old) 1995 Corrado 16v (Aqua Blue), talk about buying the first one you see, it was dreadful, i regretted it from the moment i started the drive home. 1995 Corrado Storm, went and bought the best car i could find to smooth over how much of a pillock i felt for buying the valve 1989 Mk2 Golf GTI 16v, Oak Green on small bumpers, great car, used as a daily and sold with minimal loss on the pocket 2 years later. 2003 Bora TDI, competent family car, very little room in the back and electrically fragile. 1983 Golf GTI 1.9, glad i did it but turns out I'm just not a MK1 man 1989 Mk2 Golf VR6, project that never took off so sold (found out later the guy who bought it wasn't insured and it was took off him and crushed) 2001 Golf 4mo, great car, underrated.. 2003 Saxo VTR, surprise one in the list. 48k, 1 lady owner and standard for 1200 quid. 2 years later and 2 MOTs walked and 25k miles it just does the job, nice to have a car i really don't care about.. Its also surprisingly good on the juice. 1994 Corrado VR6, the current one, having the above Saxo allows the often lavish spending on this...
