Geeba 0 Posted June 21, 2017 Nice report... and tidy garage.. been meaning to do our garage floor for the last 30 years. Cheers mate! ;) - it doesn't usually look that tidy :D has anyone ever bought these kits off ebay? if so are they any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FEBI-SUSPENSION-UPDATE-KIT-CORRADO-VR6-GOLF-MK3-GTI-VR6-2X-ALL-ITEMS-LISTED/263045784297?_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3De00cd84086ab4f27805d2efc628b9fe2%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D263008721266 Or do I get mine blasted and painted? then install something like R32 or TT bushes? I would think Febi would be OEM?
seanl82 23 Posted June 21, 2017 The guy that sells them is on the Golf GTI forum. If you join and pm him, you'll get 5% off. Not a great deal but every little helps!

Geeba 0 Posted June 21, 2017 Car was looking sorry for itself when I passed it on the way to the station early yesterday morning. Ahhh yes - it was parked up on a stand with no front end installed... my Mum isn't best pleased with the appearance, I suggested a cover, but she's not keen. Hopefully once I can get rolling again it won't be too long before its mobile again. ;) Have you ever purchased front suspension arms for that Corrado you're building in the loft? ;) - I cant make up my mind... blast and paint the originals and use R32 bushes or just replace the lot... hmmmm
delfinis38 1 Posted June 21, 2017 Tell you mum it looks fine on the drive. It's quite hidden behind the gate and bushes.. No not done my suspension arms...
GlosterOx 0 Posted June 21, 2017 Personally I would get your OE Arms blasted and powder coated with R32 rear and standard front bushes - Lemforder are better quality replacements for Bushes than Febi in my opinion. Ian.

Ian. Cheers Ian. I guess the R32 rears just tighten it up a bit more? does anyone know if they are still available from the dealer? Would there be any benefit to using them in the front as well? OE look and slightly stiffer? or are they too much?

There's no voids I the R32 bushes so theres less deflection making geometry remains more stable
Geeba 0 Posted June 21, 2017 There's no voids I the R32 bushes so theres less deflection making geometry remains more stable OK to use them up front? or will it rattle your teeth out? I had them on my MK4 Golf but unsure of them impact on the VR6.
seanl82 23 Posted June 21, 2017 Front right still available through Classic parts https://www.vwheritage.com/1h0407152-wishbone-right-hand-corrado-vr6-mk3-golf I bought a pair last year and both were about £36 iirc so the genuine one has gone up in price slightly, but still pretty good value I think considering the standard bushes are in place. I got the Mayle one advertised on heritage as well, and if I'm honest, the quality is right up there with the original. Its just as weighty, but I obviously can't tell if the bushes will last as long as the OE one.

Ian. Right got it... when you say rear, you mean the rear-est front bush press with R32 and use the standard on the pivot bush! ;) Out of interest has anyone tried the solid cast wishbones from an R32 or TT?
seanl82 23 Posted June 22, 2017 Yeah it's the rear front Wishbone bush. I'm not sure if the R32/TT wishbones fit, but I have heard of people seam welding the standard ones so that's another option
Geeba 0 Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) Right wishbone bushes R32 Lemforders front/front and front/rear's, SNR wheel bearings and Pires Hubs 'check' Still stripping the running gear and gathering parts just wondering peoples thoughts on H&R springs on standard gas shocks? my car appears to have reasonably new Sachs Gas shocks on it. but I need to sort the altitude out so was thinking H&R -30's These look to be the same shocks at EuroCP's http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_2.9_1993/p/car-parts/suspension/suspension-and-steering/shock-absorber/?635442150&1&7b7a991fc29529ca0db07f9ae8cf19b02c373101&000925 It wasn't good on my MK4 GTI... but the standard suspension was dire on those so I did put Koni's on it in the end. Did notice this on the H&R site... "H&R Sport Springs are the ideal solution for the enthusiast who appreciates race-bred components designed for street use. They are suitable for use with your original dampers or will work with aftermarket sport dampers." - just wondered if people have had experience with that setup? Geeba 0 Posted July 3, 2017 Is there any preferred brand when it comes to chains and tensioners? I've seen the Euro ones are Febi? anyone know who made the originals?
Cressa 44 Posted July 3, 2017 I've got the H&R springs on standard shocks mate. Car certainly looks a lot better because of this. But they needed the earlier spring caps Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Geeba 0 Posted July 3, 2017 Cheers Cressa Still cant make my mind up on the ride/suspension yet.. One other thing I noticed when stripping my engine down is the water pump has a plastic impeller... this was a no-no on the MK4's are they let go when you least wanted it to... is this the same for the VR6? stuarttaylor37 13 Posted July 3, 2017 I had a Corrado on lowering springs and standard shocks, it looked good but was a very harsh ride. Circoli brand at ECP is a metal finned water pump.
Geeba 0 Posted July 6, 2017 Just so people are aware - the Airtex water pump from ECP although it seems like pretty good quality also has a plastic impeller, I'm sat here holding one that turned up today... I guess I have no option but to go with that and just expect to change it in a few years... rubbish! why do they do that! :(
stuarttaylor37 13 Posted July 6, 2017 The circoli one which is the cheaper option is metal finned
Geeba 0 Posted July 13, 2017 Well the clutch spring has turned up... not quite what I was expecting.. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?
Geeba 0 Posted July 14, 2017 Arrrghhhh spring is wrong! Should look like this :( Has anyone got one?
Geeba 0 Posted July 18, 2017 Sorry, fat fingers, should have been 02J - its the later MK4 onwards improved shift tower on the VR6 02A gearbox, MK4 cables and shifter mounted into a Polo housing so it fits the tunnel. Hotgolf on CGTi lightened my flywheel for £80 inc return P&P - he now trades as Gas and Gears LUK or Sachs clutch kit 3.68 diff is what the Americans got to pep up their 2.8s (184 BHP against our 190BHP), fitted to our MK3 GTi 16V, so the diff goes in the VR6 gearbox and gives quicker acceleration and a better spread performance wise. I have most of the above (and more) sat on shelves waiting for me to get my finger out. Hi Dox - just a quick question... do you know roughly how much weight comes off the flywheel? Dox 23 Posted July 18, 2017 Hi Dox - just a quick question... do you know roughly how much weight comes off the flywheel? I posted it at over 10kg and weighed it on return as 6kg, the weight is machined mostly from the outer edges for less inertia
