Keyo 47 Posted June 8, 2021 Just out of curiosity why have people no interest in fitting the oe style rubber hose that has the correct square ending banjo. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362942146476?hash=item548109a7ac:g:bAwAAOSwJepgW-Rw
fendervg 32 Posted June 8, 2021 No issue with the OE hoses, but they tend to bulge a bit under pressure and most prefer to upgrade to braided hoses, which give a more consistent pedal feel and (maybe, but how do you measure it?) improved braking performance. Be aware that the braided hoses still use a rubber core, which can perish and split and is much harder to check than the OE ones.

Keyo 47 Posted June 8, 2021 (edited) I noticed it says on Hel 92 - 98 - thought that was odd - yours look correct there dated from 95. Edited June 8, 2021 by Keyo

The febi set does though.

Dox 23 Posted June 8, 2021 Hold this thought, if you chose MK4 disks and used 6mm spacers to centre the calliper over the disk you'll gain 6mm extra wheel clearance?
Cressa 44 Posted June 9, 2021 If you choose the mk3 route , it does all fit
Keyo 47 Posted June 9, 2021 (edited) Interestingly you can buy x2 callipers ATE 288 mm refurbished (come with new springs to ) for both £134.00 or TRW for similar price. Free postage (100 if you can be arsed to post your old ones to them ) Two (new) ATE carrier £ 88.00 both Slider kit and bolts both £6.00 So its the same price as sending them to Big Redd but the carriers are new- seems pointless buying a second hand set for £50.00 + refurb Big Redd £185.00 (no springs)+ postage Might just go with that instead to be honest seems lot less hassle. Autodoc sell all the above. Free postage. carries 3B0615123 Calipers left 3A0615123 right 3A0615124 https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ate/7004486 https://www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=OEN+3A0615124&supplier[1]=3 https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ate/7014054 https://www.autodoc.co.uk/jp-group/8879116 Edited June 9, 2021 by Keyo
fla 9 Posted June 9, 2021 Or you could refurb them yourself. Its a nice satisfying little project and won't cost more than new seals and, if required, new pistons & slider pins and paint in your choice of colour

However I have to deal with a breaker and pay postage for carriers and callipers - old carriers not nrew and will be £40.00 worse off- autodoc is the best solution if you dont own a set of 288 mm and dont have the means to diy refurb and strip the callipers and treat crusty metal. _Matt_ 32 Posted June 10, 2021 Does seem mad to send them off to Big Redd at those prices. I would refurb them myself however you'd need an air compressor to push the piston out but the rest is just changing over parts. Most rust will come off with a wire bursh and you can use a dremmel or die grinder with air compresser to do the hard to reach bits.
Cressa 44 Posted June 10, 2021 I took mine apart and blocked the bleed and hose off with bolts. I think I removed the piston dust seal and took it my local powder coater. Popped the piston out after or maybe the powder coater did!!!
Dox 23 Posted June 10, 2021 You can blow the pistons out with a tyre compressor or foot pump. idea for electrolysis rust removal?
