Thanks for the replt Fend anything that saves the coppers is more then welcome as the VGI is still on . -
So about a month back whilst driving I lost all electrics on my Rado. Pulled over and after investigation I discovered even though the battery was only a couple years old the battery contacts were greasey and grimey from Engine bay grime. A good wire brish I was on my way all solved. Original battery case is now obselete and wanted to protect the battery. So fitted this today and chuffed with the quality and look , also keeps the crap away from the contacts !!! Good little bargain and tidys up the engine bay, make sure you check your battery size first though . £20 included delivery from Germany. Just got to get VW decal for it now to finish it off. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Batterieh%C3%BClle-Batterietasche-Thermotasche-Batterieschutz-Akkutasche-60-Ah/182867184364?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

MAS sensors are not cheap and Im a sucker for BOSCH parts if possible but I just went for JP Group, and by all accounts looks well made very happy with it its Danish and cost £65. Im changing the cat and exhaust soon and have a new Bosch lambada sensor , I reckon this will really finish off the smoothness of the engine. One thing many people over look is the recirculation system in late VR6 which incorporates a breather tube from the petrol fill cap area then onto the carbon canister which releases gasses to a light blue solenoid (connected to ECU has a socket and plug)located by the by the airbox , if the solennoid jams open this can also lead to some of your symptons. Also the PCV vavle, so many possibilties, but the way I see it are most of the parts are very old on the car so any part replacemnt for the car is a huge benefit and not fitted in vain. Be interested to hear what you discover after your investigation. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-JP-GROUP-Air-Mass-Flow-Sensor-1193902400-Top-Quality/192493486795?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 -

After changing the MAS, PCV Valve and hose, FPR , Cam Sensor , ECU and fuel pump relay and Crank sensor my car is starting great and running smooth, it had new leads and sparks last year alongside battery also getting a new starter next week as making an awful squeak sound on start up. However taliking about the ECU my car had a remap in 2003 in conjuction with a BCA air filter and Shrick VGI, not sure wether I need to got to Stealth and have it remapped as I have now fittd a Stock air box which does not suck in as much air also how much they would charge. Reckon an older car would benefit hugley from the injections having a professional clean. Have you had any error codes to do with mixture ? -
Be careful using that German company off ebay ,I ordered some parts from these lot for my SL Merc it took about six or seven weeks, at one point I thought they would never come, look at their feedback for a start ??? They also trade under several different names. Heritage do original and some aftrmarket ones that are cheaper, personally I would only use an overseas company if it was the only option after my experience, nightmare sending something back if its damaged or wrong part sent out. These aftermarket ones are the same and the last digit of the part number is aftermarket but rest of the number is the same as stock VW, they should be on the Corrado parts list Because they are 226mm x 10mm same as Corrado , I have a set at home waiting to fit and Hertage confirmed they are the same . On special offer at the moment half price set £18 bargain !!!!! https://www.vwheritage.com/191615612dr-backing-plate-for-rear-discs-mk2-golfjetta-gti-88-92-right-vw-spare##

Thanks all managed to get the sensor in today had to put the O ring in the housing first and then it slid in fine with the plastic spacer another job off the list !
-
Bonus mine came with these all ready fitted.

The one side of the car was jacked up on the subframe and I just thought that it might of put some tension in that area , I'll get it up on a ramp and have a good look when I get the chance, the old one was really tough to pull out and was lodged in, to be honest I think the hole just needs a good clean of any pitting or muck , it is a very tight place to work in though so need a ramp really as have hands like a JCB Bucket. Also I have a new sump to fit so will do that at the same time .
-
It might be that that the surface of the housing has slight corrosion on the surface making it a tighter hole, at the moment the car seems to be working fine without the trim its still sticking in the same length as srew is flush, I think the plastic round trim just gives it a bit more support in the housing keeping it lodged , I will be revisiting it at a later date when I can get it on a ramp.
-
Silly question but I jacked the car up when I changed it that wouldnt put pressure on the crank sensor housing would it making it hard to put the sensor in it ? Had the car up on one side a good eight inches as was installing some new 70 L stainless steel tank straps on at the same time.

Yeah I rubbed my finger round there and couldnt feel any debris the supicious thing was the old one was a real bugger to get out to and def got the old o ring out still have it, maybe there is a bit of casing left . Might well be that circle housing has distorted over time god knows Im a bit annoted with the whole thing to be honest , I was going to leave it to VW with other work I was having but they wanted 100 or so quid for labour, they must have mystic meg working for them ha !
-
Thanks for the reply was it an original VW part you used with the plastic surround trim same as picture ? Cheers.

Wow fairplay that does sounds one hell of a mint car and that !

Hi all, VR6 Rado Today I had a bit of a nighmare changing the crank sensor. The Alen bolt came off fine and I thought this seems easy but then it took me about an hour to get the old one off it was an aftermarket part and all black and plastic. The surround of the sensor broke off in the round housing but I eventually managed to wingle it out with much effort and grief. I fitted a VW part 021906433A but it wouldnt go in to the housing fully and was on the slant when doing up the bolt because of the black plastic circle trim that sits between the brown O ring and end of the circilar metal made it impossible to go in and when doing the bolt up would make the sensor slant towards the bolt side . In the end I just put the sensor in without the plastic round trim/ spacer but with only the brown rubber O ring. P.s the black circular trim came off the sensor easily it just pulls off with ease. Question is has anyone else encounted this problem ?? , I have attached a picture of the part. Im quite worried about taking the plastic trim off hope its goint to be ok couldnt see no oil leaks after starting the engine. .

Yeah I know what you mean I cant stop buying parts for mine it addicitive ! I was even looking at a new power steering reservoir earlier and expansion tank which is no longer available from what I can see. Was also driving today and there is slight hesitation and judder in second gear in low revs so sort of thinking did the last owner buy some substandard plugs and leads he fitted a couple of years back , more than lightly and more exspense ha !

What is the story of you motor chap how come it has not really been in use since 2000 ?
-
It is ashame its very lucrative business there is a company that strip R129 its all they do and for a panoramic removable roof they ask for £2500 well it was only a 2 k option from the factory new. Personally I will always look for new part if possible first as there is no guarantee of a good life span of a second hand part. Also as we all know the 2.9 engine block is desired for resale alongside the leather interior.

You can look at the website and it shows each quater what is sorn and there is no major difference in number of vehicles sorn in the winter and miles from half Sean. I think its good for a car to breath after storing cars, car covers etc and the lack of use because all the crap you have to do to get them out just for a drive. Also there are some really nice sunny days in the winter and enjoy a drive out. I use aqa wax and keep the car clean and never take it out in around salty roads, i aslo have under wax oil.

Yeah you need the right guy to do the job for sure, Ive taken mine to a specialist and he said the spray job was actually really professional and all good. When I first saw the car it had solid mud under the arches the lad lived in flats and didnt really look after the car to be honest and got a few other dinks and dongs from mutiparking at the flats. The refresh is good as you can get it to a point that your happy with the overall standard of the car and afterwards just repair something when it happens, also if selling you have good documentation as evidence you have been a good custodian of the car.
-
Well most of the ones I see off the road Sean in the UK are rotting on a driveway , however yes there are some owners that will Sorn it over the winter but personally I wouldnt be arsed to sorn a vehicle for 6 months for that small savings of money
-
It is difficult for some owners as you can have a bad run of major faulures and just end up cutting your losses. My Rados last owner had a spray job four years ago, in the last couple of years Heater matrix . timing chains and a new radiator and was also fitted with a Shrick VGI and black leather interior and sunroof + spoiler working perfectly so I thought it was a good honest car to spend some money on. At the end of the renovation including body work as the rear arches are starting to blister !, complete new supension and all bushes and mounts on car, new catalitc and Milltek Catcback, new sump , oil cooler, tank straps. discs pads and backing plates . 5 or 6 sensors and plenty of other bits and bobs, my outlay with purchase will be up to 8k and more I imagine and that is MK4 R32 territory. Lucky for me Im a sucker for the Corrado box design . Just popped on some splitrim anniversary BBS wheels for her yesterday and tyres would of rather original silver but came with gunmetal centers still like them though happy with the look. Good question below is a link to a website called how many cars left. its linked to the DVLA and will tell you what is sorn and taxed in the uk of each brand of vehicle. I do think the Corrado is now at the turning point that in the next 5 years where the only ones left will be the cherished ones and will enter the true status of a modern classic. I also have an R129 SL that is at this stage now to. However the classic car market is not doing that great at the moment but I own my motors as a bit of a hobby more then anything and messing around in the engine bay of course. From what I can see there is 901 VR6 on the road and 1118 that are sorn , each year there is an average of a 100 extra VR6 getting sorn so a 100 less on the road each year. I imagine alot of the sorn ones will be rust buckets, catastrophic engine failures, eventually broken or absolutley modified to oblivion and wrecked. There is 30 million cars in the Uk so 902 is not a lot of vrs. https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/

Yeah but I imagine most end up in a breakers as worth more in parts if its a damaged one therefore no longer on the road.

The large majority would be cat accident free as insurance companies would rather write them off due to a lack of body parts and because of valuation.
