  1. all advise above should see you through; its easy to measure the diameter of the disc. The 256 disc is for the 2.0L corrado. However it is possible for the previous owner to have fitted the 280mm G60 discs, and therefore carriers too; therefore 256 calipers would not sit correctly to the disc. Therefore, measure up. 256 is a good bet though. KR and 9A are both the 2.0L. The KR is pre-CAT, pre 1992. You'll know which yours is; it'll be a 9A I bet. Being a 9A, it shares a lot of bits with the Passat of a date. Worth buying the Pink Haynes manual... honestly!
  2. Lee, a harsh ride is exactly what you should be expecting, lol. You've forgotten to mention that you've also go non-standard wheels and tyres on the car, thus making the matter worse (or better depending how you view it). If you like the ride and you're sure that the shocks are standard, I'd swap the shocks for somthing better. If the springs are old or cheap, then replace those too, by buying a total set. Using a standard shock is just wrong and thus will result in you needing new ones sooner than usual - although vw shocks are extremely good. The rebound will be wrong, with your current setup.
  3. Im sorry I cannot say how to reset the abs light, but is it possible that the problem lead to there being an actual fault? Therefore a sure fire way of finding out if there is a fault is to plug the car into VAG-COM, hopefully you can find someone off here or a local back garage that will plug you in for free. Alternatively, can a fuse cause this - worth swapping about?
  4. Jon and Griff are spot on. Did you fix it yet? Just one point to note when you do this job too; when you undo and do-up the bolts that hold on the carrier, they screw into the sliding pins - these have a nut head on them; hold this still with an open ended spanner while you undo the bolts, so as to prevent twisting and tearing the rubber sheaths (which if torn will cause the pins to rust and sieze up). Can clean copper slipp off the discs with meth or petrol - keep off rubber.
  5. just trying to help, its always best and easiest to poke about your self for free, rather than a garage charge you. Hope someone can give direct answers to your queries, but some suggestions could be: - yes, drive shaft can definately be wrong. Does the VR require stiffer springs? Just that some folk say that a low ride can knacker your shafts. - does it make the noise when on lock, or just a straight line? - noise happens under accelleration only? - all wheels are on tightly, no debris in engine bay, wheel hubs on straight too? - also note that you're sat in the front of the car. Anyone listened out in the back? If you're handy with a spanner, the shafts and joints aren't too bad to take apart. otherwise go see a friendly mechanic.
  6. well you've done your screen wash and will keep doing it. Its a good time to change your RAD fluid. Halfords stuff will be fine. See container for instructions. Brake fluid - Dot 4
  7. tiny tip too; as I found once I scrubbed up the existing pins and put on new rubber sleeves; remember to hold the pin-head-nut with an open spanner when you tighten up the screw. As it can often rotate and the rubber snarls up / splits - lets water in and back to square one. However, this probably wont happen when putting new on, because there will be so much lube splurting out - dont let it hit the pads/discs.
  8. dont worry about it - when are you going to get done for it? I see endless people going into work with no hands on the wheel on the M6 - no wonder theres a crash every day. Mob-phones, breakfast, makeup...
  9. would love to help, but have no C to take apart. Have had the pins out before mind. Are you looking to buy some Mk4 pins or already have them (pins normally come with carriers)? The originals are just a very snug fit, just enough space to fill it with lube. If anyone does measure them, just be mindfull of the flat spots. racking my brain... I might have some spare front ones (with carriers of which are no use to you) ... these maybe the same? It's length and diameter you'd be worried about. Sorry to not be of more help.
  10. can you refuse to pay the fine? I know a lot of bikers who stick thier disc under the seat, as its so easy to steal it out of the holder and edit for use in casual inspections.
  11. ie running on choke. Are getting a different mpg? Are the revs particularly high at idle?
  12. no spark - ie you've unscrewed a plug, put the lead on and turned the ignition? No spark on any plugs? Any chance you just nudged the dizzy cap on the cover replacement exercise? Not forgotten to reconnect the battery? Sounds silly but can happen.
  13. I'd be happy as long as oil tep reaches 98. Come summer you'll see everyone complaining of high temps. I've noticed modern bike water temps now run at 73 - forget it; as it seems a new thermo stat would not stick open.
  14. G ... C... corrado.G; revised body in 1992? -- anyone confirm? Not sure about bumper, but bonnet certainly changed.
  15. my VW tends to do next day by 12 noon. Where abouts are you, as some specialists have them in stock, much cheaper sometimes and still have the VAg sign on them. GSF not stock 'em?
  16. when plod said about, well the sign can't be seen, so the 40 still applies - am sure thats wrong. If no repeater signs are shown after a certain distance and no street lights are about, then national applies - or so I've been told. Funny hyped story.
  17. Newly Passed I love this bit... "Once you have passed the driving test you will be able to drive on your own. This will provide you with lots of opportunities but you need to remain safe." You mean newly passed Tom is likely to now be able to 'Get Some' now that he has his own motor, but must remember to wear a rubber? ---- "if you are driving with passengers, you are responsible for their safety. Don
  18. ok, Jay2, now there really are some new rules, lol. Thought some people may wish to discuss/joke about this topic. There may even be someone who has found which are all the new rules. Not read it all yet, so not sure what the implications are; I am sure if it was important stuff it would make bigger news, if not warrant letters to all households. Got as far as rule 148 safe driving. Presume the reference to CD player is new? MUST NOT smoke in a public vehicle, presume taxis, and vans for work etc. MUST NOT use mobile phone and similar devises.... like Sat-Nav? Turning off the engine in stoppages likely to be over 2mins - can foresee a few dodgy old motors not getting started again, lol. I know the news has picked up on the stuff about you need to be sensible and not allow mates to distract you - is this a sorry reflection of what new drivers tend to be at fault for? One of the lads in our office seems to have been to too many funerals and told stories of chatting/racing etc - its just wrong. Rule 159, is that a drawing of an Aprilia RSV overtaking an Astra ? And Kev's pet peeve - Overtaking - how often do you see people adhere to 168? Had a bloke in a Focus speed up as I overtook him, after following for some miles at 50 on a National limit; twonk !
  19. hmm, hard to tell Jim, not keen my self. Run of the mill as someone else said... http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autob ... kgp.ed.jpg like a volvo... or nice..
  20. have to feel sorry for anyone in that situation. Sorry to hear it. £250 is cheap. Make sure they do a proper job, as its a claim, and it gets back to 'as before'. Ensure the colour matches. I know a place that does £250 per panel including blending into the panels either side - your door seems to be dented too? A better place still I know of would want to spray the whole side of your car and would be more like £900+. Good luck and be thankfull you weren't on a bike (although in that case you may have given way to her)
  21. Jim, you're just buying the wrong cars. All the bikes I've had I've lost no depreciation and only had running costs; its harder to do with cars, but you can set achievable targets. The Corrado has been my biggest expense, while depreciation was low, the continuous parts added up - I spent nothing like what some people do on my corrado, and yet still managed to spend £2k on it. Versus the gf's old fiesta, think that has £0 spent on it, lol, but its as safe as sleepwalking down the M6. A good example in hand is the missus Megan - here he goes again I hear you say. Bought 1.5 years ago and probably depreciated by £1k to £1.3k at worst in that time, but mostly due to the 20,000 miles per year she was doing. Was bought with over a years warranty left on it, so peace of mind was achieved. Yes, non mechanical items have gone wrong a couple rare times at no cost - since then, touch wood, nothing. Now would be a good time for her to sell it. Check parkers/autotrader for selling prices and check what you can get for 2.5 years old versus new. Dont buy the rep cars, boy racer cars etc if you're after a reliable daily driver. Im finding with other peoples cars that servicing isn't so bad with the right car; but have heard horror stories too (bmw's etc - but again depends on the model I bet). You could've bought the Mk1 TT last year and barely lost anything on it by now from the prices I've seen. Each to thier own though, just posting a different oppinion. Somesones gotta buy new.
  22. crikey, where did this old beast of a thread come from? Its been over a year now. He went ahead and bout it. Yes he's spent a fortune on sensors , lol, now needs a clutch; cambelt is a huge job at a dealers as they take the engine out - but a local place does it for well under 300 quid. Looks aside, as I prefer the meaner looking Corrado, its a decent car. Oh yeh, and ignore the wallowy ride as Im sure the 'new shocks' are pants, or maybe it is just the chasis. However the 20v T pulls incredibly well and its the revised motor too. The Brembos pitch yu through the screen when you jump on the brakes. Only tricked up cars see it off. Most likely on par with a VR6, but with better brakes.
  23. I dunno Jim, prices in recent years seem to be great bargains, but today they seem to be going up again. £10k is a lot of money to spend; with £10k I'd be buying a higher spec car 2nd-hand as said. Guess those little 500's will be down to £5k in 3 years time though. Certainly a clean looking car - but aren't all new cars. They soon become one of many. Just nice to have a car that stands out sometimes... sometimes not. Couldn't sit on the fence more if I tried.
  24. everyone has different tastes Jim. I appreciate its close resemblance to the original and all. But thats about as positive as it gets for me; how much are these things? How well are they spec'd? Auto Express suggest £11 to £15k - but 150bhp sounds a bit angry for a leightweight. Rival the Mini? Who'd buy a £20k+ Mini? Been in one and hated that - tiny inside and much louder than a Corrado. Much rather a 2nd-hand TT or S2000, or Z4. Just be aware it seems Trannies seem to like them...
  25. is there a wiki for this job? If not, it'd be a good idea, as its a tiny bit tricky if you dont know to remove that cover beside the flywheel. Also having correct tools to get those 2 nuts out too helps.
