  2. Thats rolling road time Walesy - you have to appreciate the overheads but I think thats a fairly standard charge for a 16V WUR mod and setup, it might have taken over an hour but it sounds like it wasn't far off to start with. Stealth are the 16V daddies!
  3. Your going to need to grind thru the nut I reckon if the CV is not attached to anything...
  4. Welcome to the forum! Fuse's are the best place to start - have you noticed anything else not working? Not sure which one it is but doesn't take long to check them all, fusebox is located behind the lower dash tray near the ignition.
  5. Rear dampers were £19 each 3 years ago but they are now over £40... it's the springs that will be really expensive... Probably the best place to get the bits would be vwspares.co.uk
  6. G60 engines tend to need conrod bearings at around the 100k mark... usually rattle though not knock which is a bit worrying...
  7. When was the fluid last changed?? The original slave cylinder was black painted - new should be alloy and unpainted... if it's never been changed then i'd do it anyway.
  8. Having said that, a search reveals it's a 30mm spanner (according to my own posts)... I'd get a large adjustable
  9. It's imperial dude - maybe 1" 1/4 or 1/8 - take the battery out to get to it...
  10. I think it's best to get everything replaced you want to do and take it do somewhere that will do full geometry including thrust angle... Elite in essex will do this and it's about £100 including the rear axle shift if needed. Also anywhere with a Biessbarth machine will do this (ie Stealth, AMD or VAG dealers) A good setup makes such a difference to the way a car drives!
  11. Try an ECU anyway - even if you have to buy one second hand and it's not the fault it's useful to have a spare as they are in such a bad place for water damage... You will need the right car though - Teves 04 is traction control I think.
  12. Hello mate - hopefully Yan may have some info from the factory manuals about ABS fault finding?? Couple of things - is the battery a good one? and charging circuits ok? - Ignition switch changed for the newer (black 6N) part - Have you checked the ECU for water damage? Maybe try known good one - Has the car ever leaked water or blown a matrix - this could take out a relay.. - Is there an aftermarket alarm fitted? (I have seen alarm fitters use the chunky ABS wiring on more than one occasion!) If you have been thru the above then it's probably worth a trip to an ABS specialist to check out the ribbon cable on the valve block (a repairable fault)
  13. Yeah basically - it's mechanically driven (the pump) from the engine but I am not sure if it runs at a constant rate as it's a fairly complicated bit of kit... There are valves inside so maybe one is sticking causing the over pressure?? Maybe try changing the fluid first if it looks old - should be a transaprent green synthetic oil.
  14. Syntha Platinum replaces both Syntha Gold and PD diesel... It's £15 for 5 Litres via TPS but they are also doing the gold for £12 to get rid of stocks (PD oil is a tenner!)
  15. Yeah - it's so they can actually move I think... You know when you try and move the slider on 4 rather than on zero - there is a fair amount of air pressure there!
  16. I think you've answered your own question there if he has re-used the original shocks!! If your going to do them make sure you change the upper spring plate as these rust and become very dangerous Parts are cheap enough from VWspares.co.uk
  17. Yeah good idea - especially after the weather we've had... I'd bag the brakes with a strong carrier and some gaffa tape then clean with hot soapy water first then use white spirit to remove old wax if you want to go back to paint...
  18. They should all be covered mate - the holes are just there to help the flaps move... You can buy new flaps with the foam on, I was in the same position so used some felt stuff to repair - must not be too thick though as air needs to get through...
  19. Jesus! - thats what you get when K&N's don't get re-oiled... They are cack anyway - I'd replace with a standard paper one tbh...
  20. Front left ABS sensor (G47) - most likely and open or short circuit - unplug the wiring at the suspension turret to check resistance.
  21. Yeah gaps are always preset these days... £100 is a bit steep - would have been cheaper to get those bits from your VW dealer!
  22. Get the Peter Russek manual for the VR engine - £6.49 from WH Smiths.
