VR6 Compression Test Results (Head Damage Pictures!)
Supercharged replied to VRTrickster's topic in Engine Bay
Did you test it again? -
Lets clear this up, The FEBI stuff is the older G12 not G12+ which is a superceded part with better anti-corrosion properties, G12+ can be mixed with G11 or G12 fine without any 'gel' effects... (do not mix G12 and G11 tho and G11 is what all Corrado's came with AFAIK so it's very important you get the G12+ and not the older stuff, even if the coolant is currently pink it may not have been flushed totally when last changed) The other classic place for a leak on a VR is the thermostat houding underneath the aux pump, look for white deposits... For now i'd just top up with mineral water until you find the source of the leak, get your self 2 botles of G12+ and a new (blue) expansion tank cap and change the coolant before winter. 2 bottles = 3 litres = 33% (30% in an auto) which gives the best compromise between cooling and antifreeze for the UK climate.

Yeah change them both, the Portugal will be genuine but they had some quality issues... on a VR I think both relays come to about £30
-
Trimsport do them and they are Metal ones but the chroming is not as good as the VAG ones for the MK3.5 cab and mk4 etc... Saying that they are only £20 and metal is better than plastic!

Just stuck a pair on a mates 16V, first impressions are they seem to bed in well and the noise isn't too bad (not like the zimmermans), used Pagid FR pads with these... The coating looks good but it's too early to tell really altho it has rained tonite so i'll go and have a nose at his car at work tomorrow... The other thing is the price - £26 from GSF for the pair which is good even if they don't last as long as the VAG ones - I assumed they are priced individually too but they came as a boxed pair, unfortunatly they don't do G60 ones...
-
No, I thought it was a 'Hartley' conversion
-
GSf don't do VR ones, ECP do but VW spares is cheaper even after postage...

It's still blowing fuses I take it? It's unlikely a relay will fail in such a way that it will blow fuses, usually will just not work or leave something on... Check the lambda plug wiring before changing it
-
Oh easily - should be £150 ish... VAG would probably do it for under £200
-
From the info I have this looks like fuel pump and lambda probe but check your instruction manual as the 16v may be different... (i'm looking at a book for a late VR) Either the fuel pump is struggling maybe because of a blocked filter or there is a short in the lambda wiring, most likely where it plugs in near the rear engine mount.

You need to look at what is blowing the fuse first by looking at whats on that circuit

Bottom right... 80 If it''s not made in germany then get a new one!

What would your million pound car garage be?

I don't think Dr_Mat and bcstudent have quite grasped the concept with this one! -
You might want to get the bits from VAG yourself as ATS will probably use Unipart rubbish... Rear discs, bearings, ABS cages and Pads should come to under a ton if you get a bit of discount... then maybe 1.5 hours for a VW specialist to fit...
-
Make sure you get the right one tho as they won't take the 65A as an exchange for a 90A - I think the surcharge is £50 too!!
-
When was the fluid last changed? It's worth borrowing an ECU from someone to test but the valves do seem to go if the fluid is not changed reguarly - It's worth speaking to Steve at C&R enterprises as they offer a service to refurbish them
-
I'm afraid your banned from any future forum RR days due to new health and safety legislation..

Advice on lumpy, erratic 2.0 16v - being a bit crap again..
Supercharged replied to Jim's topic in Engine Bay
I think it's the one the other side of the plastic flange at the side to the one we changed. A long shot but you never know - it could smooth the idle and up the MPG figure... -

Jim, as the water temp guage was out I reckon it's worth changing the other one too as this one feeds the ECU and on ETKA it says 'idle stabilisation'... -
Are you sure it's the correct cable as there is an asterix next to the chassis change on ETKA - if the pedal has a hole in it then the cable should have a hook at the end...
-
The hoses needed are late Mk3 Golf VR6
-
£30 is still £30 tho but any parcel should be insured up to this amount thru RM...
-
It's in the Bentley that i've not got here but I would check it as it's critical....
