Thank you! I was wondering when I'd need to move this thread. Ohhh, new members that know how to use forums. Cool. lol P.S. Car sounds cool 8)

Not if it only happens whilst the head unit is off...
-
Is the buzz only there when the stereo is off? It's caused by a bad earth which picks up the whine from the alternator. If you do in fact have an amp, either your phono cables are too near the power cables and/or your amp isn't well earthed. Both however should in fact happen whilst its on too. If you pause the CD, can you still hear the noise? Could also be a fault with the headunit. You can get adapters which plug in-line of the phono plugs and remove buzz too, but they can thin out the sound a bit and you lose a bit of bass, etc. Better to fix the wiring if you could.

My best mate has a Jag XJS V12 and a XJR (4l? flat-6). The V12 sounds mental, and the XJR has a proper Sport button. Drives like crap until you press it then it totally flies! But, certainly more old man than my Passat! And he knows it. lol They're both proper old man cars too cos they're Autos. At least I save some grace by having a manual. And lots of buttons. Old men would get confused lol
-
I wouldn't call it quite pipe and slippers. Perhaps mid-30s middle-management rep car - but pipe and slippers? Not exactly a Jag XJS or something is it. My grandad drives a Honda Jazz, gran a Nissan Micra and my other nan a Ford Focus.. Old people can't afford big powerful cars anymore :) They wouldn't be able to get the clutch down for a start - its pretty heavy!

'VW Driver' banner in my sig goes to pics.

Probably some how lol Think its a normal panel filter, so will have to see if I can get a K&N panel filter when I sort out some extra ducting for cooling in there.

Yup, it's the Daddy, and yup, £30k new base price. Which, of course, mine isn't as its got some nice extras ;) But there's not a lot I can do to 'mod' it, most Passats you mod with the W8 extras... which, erm, I've already got now! :) Don't want different wheels (why would I?), don't want to lower it (ride is too good), don't want to bodykit it up, don't want to change the lights, etc... s'all good already! 8)

Fuel consumption is about 26-28mpg. Can touch 30mpg on the motorway. Could probably get 32+mpg if I didn't use the Cruise all the time. Because all the torque is so low down, you just need the slightest of throttle to get through all the gears. You can accellorate away in 6th from 30mph quite easily. There's only 73 (I think?) W8 estates in total, so finding one of those in manual, with the toys I like & cream leather, that's for sale... might have been a big ask. Least I had 3 times the number to choose from for the saloon variety. I paid £8k for her - which maybe slightly on the high side, but I got £300 extra in part-ex for my car than they wanted to give, plus another £100 knocked off the lifetime warranty, so all in all it was really £7600 + £500 for a lifetime (that I own the car) warranty. Considering changing the thermostat is £250 for the part, and £500 to remove the engine (yup...) then I thought that was worth it.. ;) And yeah, I lurve the buttons!! Lol. Is a very nice place to be with driving, so comfortable, and so easy. Driven 150ish miles today... It's more effort to drive the g/f's Fiesta to the shops than that! Definately a car for soaking up endless miles on the motorway. Wafts along gracefully :) Thanks for the nice comments! I'm still dead chuffed with it too!

Yup, peak torque is at 2750rpm. 8)

Not going to mod this one, no. (Famous last words..) I'm going to do a little work on the 'soundz' - got an USB MP3 player fake-cd-changer coming which is compatible with the Gamma and daisy chains off the 6cd in-dash one, plus a Sony-Ericsson carkit, and some parking sensors. Other than that, it shall remain how God intended :) Wouldn't mind piping some more cold air into the airbox, since it does suffer a bit from heat soak on a hot day. And perhaps get it mapped, which should push it to around 295bhp. We'll see. No rush. There's not a lot you can actually get for the W8, so limits the mods somewhat :) And yes, it is uber-smooth. Motorways just waft along in a calm near-silence.

Some of you may have noticed my sig and avatar change recently. Last Saturday I chopped in my V6 Syncro B5 Passat for a B5.5 4.0litre W8 :D Nice uber-rare car (probably about 300 in the UK) and all the spec I wanted. Some geeky W8 specs for those that don't know about the beast. It's basically 2x VR4 engines side-by-side (forming a sort of W) sharing a crank. Kicks out about 275bhp and similar torque lb/ft. Only available in '4motion' - but 4motion on a Passat actually differs to a Golf's 4motion, on the Passat it is still a mechanic 'Quattro' system, unlike the Golf & TTs which are electrically controlled. Unique to the W8 variant of Passat are: -- 330mm front discs with twin-pot calipers, shared with the Audi A8 -- unique HID headlamps. A snip at only £750 a pair, if you can manage to find some. -- differently designed dials, with a speedo which maxes out at 180mph. They are electronically limited to 155mph, but are known to hit 170mph once this is removed -- BBS split-rims as standard -- twin dual exit exhausts. System £1500 to replace...! The extras I managed to find on this model are: - electric fold-in mirrors - electric heated memory seats (can be linked to keys to change seat position & mirrors depending on key used) - Multi-Function steering wheel The only option missing is the VW MFD Sat Nav (not that great anyway, and I have a TomTom) and the electric rear window blind (bothered!). I actually haven't driven the car all week, due to waiting for the 1st to get my road tax (it's been an expensive month and didn't want to loose 3 weeks of tax also!) but tomorrow morning I'm off to the Post Office to get her on the road ;) Pictures on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/10959006@N ... 709011733/ (Can you tell I'm a litle bit happy with this purchase!!!)

Experimenting with McCulloch HID lighting system
Andi replied to corradog60stage4's topic in Exterior
Do you often submerge the front of your car into water? Least you know your HIDs will be ok now ;) -
Fancy selling them? I'll get round to it at some point! Would be best going to a Blackberry owner, since they're all ready sprayed. Anyway, no selling in this bit of the forum ;)
-
Yes they do exist! I have a set all sprayed for a Blackberry rado in my drawer.. never got round to fitting them.

Covered so many times... have a search and add to those threads about on the forum, please. search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&keywords=%2Buprated++%2Bheadlights++

If you put a subject which actually made sense of what your thread is about, you might get some more views.. Edit your first post.

Pah, we'll just debadge 'em as the first mod anyway ;)

Shortest. Thread. Ever.

Hehe, erm, not quite! I used to like lifting the back wheel on the C and did have it sideways a few times. 4wd does help me quite a bit nowadays! I lurve roundabouts now ;) Plus the fact I've done 10,000 miles on the current tyres, and they still have shed-loads of tread on all 4, look almost new. I'd be bare on the front 2 on a fwd, or the rear 2 on a rwd... I'm not light with my throttle!
-
On the flip side, I've gone from a VR C to a Syncro Passat, and doubt very much I'll go back to FWD again. My driving style does suit itself to have more stability though, as anyone following me in my C would testify!

Think you're all reading far too much into this! There's loads, and I mean loads, of laws that aren't religiously enforced, but are there for 'when needs must'. It's just so that when 6 Novas start laying rubber in car parks, the Police can actually do something serious. Having chatted with coppers who come to organised meets, they have nothing against sensible people getting together. In fact if they're in Traffic, they're normally more interested in the cars and there to ensure people have a good, safe, time. The police force is still filled with human beings. They're not quite all been replaced with Robocop just yet...
-
Oh god, don't give Phil that idea! You need a clipboard and to be shouting "Easy left over crest!" with the rate he drives!!
