  1. Due to the broken ankle, and not able to drive or really go anywhere, had to resort to the local (i.e. very local, about 2 mins walk) gararge for the looming MOT.

Having never used them before, I was a little ominous, but they were happy to come pick the car up, as I couldn't drive it myself for its MOT.

Just had the call - and all is fine!

Sailed through the MOT without a hiccup.

I will finally have properly aligned headlights too, as they were a little low since installing the AEs!

    Happy days. 8)

  2. Does the speedo move if you try and accellorate in gear?

If yes - driveshafts are moving, therefore CV joint has popped off (and the diff puts power the route of least friction)

If no - go down your more expensive clutch route ;)

  3. I pretty much solved the needles problem on mine by not removing the front lighting, and putting dark red filters in the strip across the top.

Doesn't affect anything else as the amount of light is quite low in comparison to the black light, but the needles then glow red...

  4. Do you mean the main headlight, or the actual angel eye rings have gone?

    The headlights are H7 bulbs.

The rings... erm.. dunno! Not sure if they're easily replaced :?

I never did figure out if they were bulb or LED powered. If bulb, just need to find where it shines into the prism. If LED, it's more likely wiring that's gone than the actual LEDs within a year or so.

  5. Stan 24v, the clocks won't work without the ECU AFAIK - so depends if you're using a hacked Mk4 ECU or some custom jobbie.

But essentially the head up display is triggered by a suitable cable which connects between the head unit and the clocks.

  6. So let me get this straight.... to fit the "new" style GPS system i would need a Mk4 engine as well?? Or is that just to get the head up dial on the MFA display?

If you wanna just fit the double-din unit, that'll go in any car..

If you want the head-up display, you'd need a Mk4 engine, or more importantly, a Mk4 ECU and clocks to make your life a lot easier..

  7. The actual headunit is 'just' a double-din headunit.

You might need to jiggle your dash about a bit, but as Phil's pic shows, if you loose the cubby and move the air controls down it should fit fine.

As for the MFA, you'd need Mk4 Golf / Mk5 Passat clocks installed.... It would be easier to install a Mk4 Golf engine and use the clocks than retro-fit them to a Corrado engine ;)

Then it's just a cable that goes from the back of the headunit to the speedo cluster.

  8. Been thinking about doing that in the Passat, as you can also get the instructions displayed in the MFA display.

You can pick up those headunits for about £300-400 on ebay.

Or a little bit more for the new version as fitted in the Mk6 Passat and Mk5 Golf.

  9. B5 Passats are indeed bomb proof and fantastic comfort.

    Loving every second of mine!

They're so cheap 'cos they've just been superceeded again, making them 2 models out of date - but as the B5 Passat is the same of the Mk4 Golf, they're not that ancient really.

  10. I don't think the actual 'good' stuff about the Black Diamond discs is the fact that they are black... Whatever they are made with, and when with BD pads - they seem to just last forever....

One less thing to worry about on the C!
