  1. kevHaywire, 21" will fit on the Lupo windscreen, hence Bosche listing them as such. From Halfords, the Lupo ones are a 21" and a 19" combo - which just fit on the C actually, as I had that on mine. (I have the driver+passenger arms on the C - not the double-passenger option).

Just ordered some Aero blades for the Passat, and within 10 mins my phone rang and they double checked the order with me, and made sure I'd ordered the right fitment (retro-fit Fusion instead of the Aero-arm fitment).

    Quality :)

Informed them their Passat listings are wrong too.. '97-'01 is labelled as Mk4.

  2. It's ironic, but when this site started - the best advice we could give was to get everything from Eurocarparts and GSF to save money....

Few years on, and all those parts have already failed, giving us all the lightbulb moment of that OEM, which lasted the 7 years previous, is actually better... It may be 50% more expensive, but lasts 200% longer.

So it all depends if you live your life one pay cheque at a time, or want to actually fix your car and not have to do the job again.

  3. so when u starting mini cabbing andi

You can laugh, but I have parked in a Taxi Rank already and a cabby stopped me and I just said I didn't have my plates on and need to pop in somewhere and he believed me :)

    Can't do that in a Corrado ;)

Anyway, Skodas are for cabbies now! :)

  4. Yup, my Passat Synchro is essentially a Audi A4 Quattro with a Passat shell on the top.

The 30v engine is Audi's creation too.

Quattro is just a brand name for the Torsen-diff-linked 4wd system - as is Synchro.

    So yeah, it's a proper 4wd ;)

And apparently to marry up to the Synchro/Quattro system you have to have the engine inline and not transversely mounted. Whereas the 4motion system can be driven by a transversely mounted engine if required.

That would explain the different (Audi 30v) engine instead of the 'usual' 2.8 24v VW one.

(I've been doing a little reading... hehe)

  5. Synchro is permnament 4wd, with Torsen diffs. (Audi Quattro style)

4motion is via Haldex, which only puts power to the rear wheels when the front wheels slip - 4motion is essentially FWD until it needs the rear wheels to help with grip.

Synchro is heavier than 4motion but is true AWD where as 4motion, despite the name, isn't. Kinda. ;)

  6. Timo., as an engine it's not as 'spirited' as the ol' 12v, but the torque kicks in a lot lower, and pulls a lot firmer through the rev range.

Motorways are where it comes into it's own - sooo easy to drive and pulls through to naughty-mph without any effort at all!

Better mpg too. Done over 500 miles since purchase (busy Easter weekend) and average 31mpg on the motorways.

It's £50 to fill up to the C's £60, and I've been getting 400 miles to a tank to the C's 300... so a lot better in that sense! Though I do drive the Passat a lot more relaxed and did tend to hoof the C around all the time ;) No need to rush in the Passat at all. So relaxing and comfy in there! I've even got Classic FM as a preset on the Radio... ;)

The C was on 208k miles and the P (!) has just clocked onto 85k.

  7. Well tonight saw the end of an era...... (but for those pre-empters out there, not the forum don't worry!).

    Yes, I've sold my Corrado.

My intention was to just garage it for a few months then decide, but a mechanic mate of mine, once he heard I'd bought another car was straight in and said he'd give me whatever I wanted for it.

I decided to let her go for £3500 with the condition of removing the stereo, sub, angel eyes and a couple of other little bits.

Current bad bits were the rusting rear wheel arch and driver's door and some other minor issues (ABS hasn't worked for a couple of years now, but light does the on-off thing for the MOT ok!).

I've picked up myself a Passat B5 Saloon in dark red with cream leather interior, gamma radio and 6 cd changer, climate, rear spoiler (woo!) and the best bit: 2.8litre V6 30valve engine on 84k, and Synchro/Quattro drivertrain -- all for the bargain price of £3k.

Will post some pics up at some point.
