.... but PayPal are not a regulated financial institution, so they can do whatever the hell they like. Their terms and conditions, that you agree to every time you sign in or use the service, mean that you don't have a leg to stand on. Anyway, I believe that as part of European (and British) law fraud regulations require them to watch large fund transfers. I would ask you what you bought/sold that triggered their fraud sweep? And why the hell is your *driving* license relevant? A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Hmm. My passenger window has been like this for years... Never once got any damp inside the car. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

I'm sure I remember one bank runs hotter or something, or the fuelling has to be different for some reason. "Use the search, Luke." Regarding your problem, have you scanned for faults? A failed cam position sensor can cause it to go flat at the top end I believe. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Heh, you'd have to be going down a very big hill, or pulling very big power to actually hit 150 mph.. :) A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Not to mention flashing blue lights in the rear view mirror.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

The 2.8 is a bit more torque and a bit less top end, by standard, and I believe that's a combination of the inlet manifold design and the camshaft profile. Though as others have said you wouldn't really notice on the road unless you're constantly pushing it past 5k rpm. To see 200bhp (for bragging rights alone) you'll probably need camshafts. The 263 degree cams are a good buy. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Yes I did have a faulty MAF for years, I could never get better than about 28 or 29mpg on the motorway till I swapped it. Even with the new one, no idle change when it's unplugged.. mine is a '95 coil pack car. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Worth checking but it's not conclusive - unplugging the later hot film MAF while the engine is idling has NO IMPACT, whether the MAF is alive or dead. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Idle valve sticky is my guess. Have a search.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

They piston slap when new, don't worry about it unless it's burning a **** ton of oil.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

What happened to the gearbox? 2nd gear synchro broken? A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

That's not chain noise. Chain noise is worst at 1200 rpm, it's barely noticeable at idle. That sounds heavy. That said, mine sounds a bit like that sometimes, sounded pretty rough this morning and the chains are less than 40k miles old. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Unless you verified it was ok visually I'd bet your timing chain tensioner was well screwed at 254k .. It doesn't always cause a problem, but could. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

The squeal will likely be the aux belt, yes. Does sound a bit more clattery than I'd like though how does it run when it's properly warmed up, and what oil do you have in there? A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

I would agree that within the VW scene the Corrado is still well respected, but step outside that and you quite often find people who have no clue what it is (they've heard of the current Scirocco obviously, but often they didn't even know that's a remake). Talking of which, the latest facelift Scirocco. Is it just me or is it quite ugly? A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

You'll see a bunch of duds before you find the one you want, unfortunately, but they are still a great drive and a bit of a throwback. The balanced chassis and steering feel is a complete joy compared to modern boredom boxes, and the throttle response on a VR is totally electrifying compared to literally any car that has a turbo. Well, I would say "noisy" is subjective. It will sound different, is an objective way of saying it. Some people don't like the different, some don't care. Laminate doesn't behave quite the same as engineered oak with often very lightweight ply backing, as you are no doubt aware. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

I have no complaints about your use of the extra height to even the room up between the "tiled" and "non-tiled" section. I read it that you planned to add *another* layer of CDX on top of *that* across the *entire floor*, which you would nail down, then glue the engineered wood on top. It's this additional layer I don't see the point of. Assuming this is what you meant. Essentially if you don't glue the whole floor you will get a noisier floor. I've seen some installers use piles of glue like stand-offs and stuff but particularly with 16mm flooring it will sound lightweight if you don't full face glue it to something substantial. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
-
We full face glued. Can't see much point in making it more complex than that. Your subfloor already has a pretty random mix of levels and materials, what's one more..? Adding another 16mm of floor height also seems counterproductive, particularly if you have thresholds to other rooms to deal with. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Owning a performance car or classic just becoming difficult
dr_mat replied to corrado_sunderland's topic in Off-topic Chat
Unfortunately the ICE is responsible for distribution of pollution to our homes. Continued use of it also precludes the use of clean or low carbon energy, and it's also no longer the best drive system for a car - that is now by far the brushless electric motor. Lots of reasons it should probably be phased out, and no reasons why we should keep using it. (For new cars!) Classics will always exist though, as will petrol heads.. :) A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT. -

I suppose the point to bring to this conversation that is a little more on-topic is that one of the things that's hard about running a performance/classic car is that it is likely they will be banned from certain roads before too long because of environmental concerns! On the other topic, people mentioned unreliable new cars - agree hugely. We have a 2013 golf family car and it threw a bunch of dashboard error codes about the braking system (I mean like five of them), all because I'd left my camera resting on the "auto hold" button.. wtf?! And woe betide anyone who waits for the TPMS to alert you on a tyre pressure issue, because it threw no less than twenty or so *totally unrelated* error codes from loads of different engine and general car modules at the very specific moment it also realised one of the tyres might be a little flat. Touchy. Can't wait for it to get properly old. I will need to program an AI to work out which error message is the real one. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT. -

Nice idea, but it's still a hydrocarbon so to obtain it in large enough quantity it would need to be industrially obtained from oil. (Unless anyone fancies bringing that huge interstellar "beer cloud" from space they found a few years back...?) And obviously it would also still cause CO2 emissions and the usual internal combustion engine problems: particulates, unburnt fuel in the air, etc. If pure it would remove the issue of nitrogen by-products but putting anything that pure into the tank would be prohibitively expensive. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT. -
Friend of mine has the same 1.2 TSi and it's putting in 65mpg on a cruise (he's known for a light right foot to be fair). Looks like nice little cars. I say "little", they are the same size as the "family" golf was when it was a Mk2 and have the same wheelbase and running gear as a Corrado.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Owning a performance car or classic just becoming difficult

Hydrogen has one problem: massively explosive, much more so than petrol. Also, orders of magnitude more difficult to store and transport than a liquid fuel too. Agree there will be Teslas hitting the scrap yards with a battery that needs recycling, but that's a once per lifetime operation (it seems), so if other manufacturers get their electric vehicle tech into the current generation we should all be able to buy an electric car with a lifetime battery pack before too long. I hope no-one thinks electric cars will be cheap. They should be promoted by reduced taxes in the medium term, in order that people pick them up and they become more common, but ultimately the energy they consume is still a huge amount compared to what people are used to paying for household electricity. (Ironically perhaps this will finally make people realise how big a deal taking the car everywhere is?) I'm sticking with the VR6 as long as it's legal to drive on the road.. (and it hasn't died of tin worm)... but an electric commuting car starts to make more and more sense... A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT. -

It's certainly difficult keeping Corrados going given how rapidly the parts are becoming unavailable. I have to say (the conversation about electric cars); I think you're wrong. The internal combustion engine has simply had its day. It's progressed, a bit, over the years but it's a constant drip drip of improvement, it just doesn't do anything really well apart from excite petrol heads. And if you'd driven a Tesla (the car!) you'd agree the future isn't that bleak. Ok it's got no steering feel, but no production petrol car has either, and it *obliterates* any production petrol/diesel vehicle on the road for performance, handling, safety. As for the batteries they already have 200k mile cars out there that have lost around 5% battery capacity, and they estimate half a million miles will be an easy ride. These are almost zero maintenance cars. Yes, the big issue is electric power distribution, but hell we've had a hundred years to work out how to get petrol to end users and we've only been doing electric cars for five minutes and it's already viable, even if you have to do things a bit differently. So, sad as it is in a way, I think within our lifetimes the electric motor will take over from the internal combustion engine, and for the sake of all our health and the environment I think this will be long overdue.. I accept this is a tough statement to make on a car nut forum, so I accept appropriate flames ... :) A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
