I've noticed that while the MFA is displaying the temp it logs values and smooths them out so it doesn't change rapidly, but that log (running average) is reset every time you rotate through the settings. During warm-up the oil temp will fluctuate a fair amount as the cold and warm parts are circulated. So, I don't think you have a problem (other than having a car you don't use enough to notice its quirks.. ;) ). A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

They are notorious for this, you will likely find that you need to mill the faces of the manifold and the inlet runners so they're perfectly flat - otherwise as you torque it up it pulls out of true. As others have said, the flap is the whole point of the device, without it you have an expensive paperweight. Tell your mate that with the flap closed the inlet runs as two separate narrower airflows which improves torque (massively) at low-mid rpms using resonance (+8 psi I am led to believe), while with the flap open it runs as a single wide airflow which promotes top end power. The "flap open" configuration matches the standard inlet manifold almost completely, only then addding offset inlet runners to even up the inlet length between the front and rear cylinder banks - but this only adds a few hp at the very top of the range so you probably wouldn't even notice it.   7. I guess they are "rare" now. I got a working pump for my VR6 for about £35 ten years ago now. Still working.. I'm sceptical a sticky valve can be cured by stomping on the brakes though, it does a self test every time it starts up which includes cycling all the valves. I suspect that at best it might kick the problem down the road six months or so. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
  8. Two options: used pump or refurbish yours. There is a firm who can do a renovation job and a very good one at that, but you'll need to send it away for a while. (You'll have to dig around the forum I can't remember the name off the top of my head.) But you may as well buy a used pump. Check the part number, search eBay/breakers and you're sure to find one for not too much cash. It'll either work or it won't and you have a spare to refurbish. In general they are very reliable.   11. Should be able to do a couple of miles like that. Nice thing is the vr has an oil temp sensor. Watch that like a hawk. VW still sell the hoses. I doubt the failure is related to anything else, it's just brittle with age and heat cycling, and it's a point which flexes. A new hose will last the same amount of time again.   12. That is usually the first pipe to fail on a VR6. It will go just above the green clip where it flexes as the engine moves. Get a new one. Mine went most impressively and ****ed brown water all over the underside of the bonnet.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
  13. Interestingly my black 95 vr came with a brushed chrome Corrado badge on the rear and red VR6 badges front and rear. I bought some silver ones, but have to admit I leave them off the car so no-one gets tempted to nick 'em.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

  15. If the supply voltage warning comes up AND you do NOT have a bad battery then you either need to clean up the abs connector plug or you have a dodgy relay or a dodgy ignition barrel perhaps? The rest points to a bad abs pump unit and obviously the sensors themselves, but work on getting rid of the voltage one first. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

  18. I *have* caught a borderline crank sensor issue with vag-com, but you have to keep the engine running, dash in the house and get vag-com and plug it in. The moment you stop the engine the code gets wiped because of the "no signal" code. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

  20. Much as I'd like to be right, please ask, quickly, if they have scanned for error codes while the engine was stationary and seen "engine speed sensor: no signal"? This needs to be verified when the engine is *running* and in fact should be diagnosed with an oscilloscope, otherwise the above error always comes up. If the crank sensor suffers a hard failure then the car won't start at all; but the sensor signal can start to degrade when the engine is very hot if the sensor is borderline. An expensive mistake, from VW they are about £140 iirc. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

  22. 13.2 is only a little bit low, it's enough to charge the battery, hence no light on the dash. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
  23. More common is the blue "exciter wire" which runs from the battery to the regulator and provides its reference voltage is getting bad. It only takes this wire going a bit high resistance and the regulator no longer knows what voltages to apply. When it gets really bad you'll find it stops charging full stop, and the battery light on the dash stays on even when the engine is running. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
