Well given that they're all the same I doubt you have an electrical fault in one of your sensors. That doesn't mean you don't have a mechanical or magnetic fault. Read the ECU, it'll probably say something like "implausible signal" for one or more sensors. My guess would be that your meter was auto-ranging in the kOhm range, so those values are ~1000 Ohm, which is perfectly reasonable.

It's actually because VW were too cheap arsed to fit a proper drum brake mechanism for the handbrake like many other companies have been doing for years. There's nowt really wrong with your brakes, you just assumed that VW made thoroughly engineered cars.. ;) It's worrying - they only just pass the handbrake test on the MOT time after time, despite me knowing full well they're working absolutely to specification..

Why didn't VW make any more supercharged cars?
dr_mat replied to Alexander's topic in General Car Chat
I think that as technology has moved on they are now in a position where the ECU has a LOT more control over a turbo charger than it ever would over a supercharger, so it makes sense to stick with it. It's actually easier to hook into the engine, too, as it only needs to be placed in the inlet/exhaust ducting, rather than needing a belt drive from the crank. I can see it has many advantages in this context that superchargers don't. Look at the breadth of the torque curves they can generate on a 1.8T/2.0T engine - there's no way they'd get that out of a supercharger! -
Schrick purchased the designs and the right to manufacture this product from Pierburg (who made it for VWMS). You would have to purchase the rights from Schrick, and probably get agreement from Pierburg aswell!

Don't think that kit will fit on the OBD1 12v engines. But anyway, yes that's the "improved" variable inlet design that VW used on the later cars. The plastic insert isn't very reliable tho, and even when it's working I hear that it tends to rattle ..
-
Not just the boxes. It's the inertia that the wheels/driveshafts/hubs/brake disks etc etc have to absorb too, which gets proportionally greater in higher gears.
-
Those numbers don't look unusual. Regardless of what it *should* be that's about what most people find on the rolling roads.
-
I don't think £180/yr prevents people keeping old cars on the road. I think unavailability of spare parts and new cars being so cheap prevents people keeping old cars on the road... I can't see the government abolishing it, no, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't ... ;)
-
Road tax is an irrelevance now. They should abolish it. It's original purpose was to force people to have MOT and insurance. Now you are obliged to have both of those electronically there's no point in going through the annual rigmarole any longer.

Lacking what? I think you're smoking crack, dude. ;) I think pretty much everyone says the Schrick VGI performs better than the VWM VSR in all respects *apart* from fit and servicing. (But it fits a lot more tidily under the bonnet of a Golf than a Corrado.)
-
Can't you see the wires holding them in place? ;)
-
Um, yeah, which was why they wound up costing £2k in the first place..! Plus there would be significant copyright issues.. The later engines had a much simpler design with plastic actuators (that fail regularly.. :) ) that was much cheaper to build. The Schrick will do the job (if not better), it's just a tad more inconvenient at servicing time.
-
Yes, it *actually fits*. Unlike the Schrick one, which just sorta fits. Kinda. Maybe...

GSF do genuine Bosch units on exchange, can't really go wrong with those.
-
Almost certainly the alternator itself. One of the windings has probably failed.

People have done 400+hp VR6 Ts for less than that. I don't doubt that it's possible. But did they get a garage to do it for them? I very much doubt that.. For the average punter coming into this gig you'd have to be insanely lucky to get a working supercharger setup for that money.
-
You most likely have a faulty ABS sensor. Get it on VAG-COM.

How much is a new windscreen for a Corrado VR6?

ISTR that autoglass charged about £300 to my insurers for a replacement screen. -
Clicking when starting and other various electrical problems

Sounds like the healthy 12.5v at the battery isn't making it to the starter motor. Does it still show 12.5 while you're turning it over (or trying to)? -
Aw, come on don't suggest you can get a supercharger up to 300bhp for £1600. You can't, just not possible unless you fit and tune it all up yourself. The beauty of cams and inlet is the simple fitting and forget-about-it aspect. You'll never have that with a supercharger unless you were born with a spanner in your hand..
-
Sounds serious.. CV joints/diff/drive shafts would be my guesses..
-
Excellent. That means that when some scrote breaks your window to nick 50p out the ashtray it'll cost £300 to get it replaced instead of £150 .. ! The car looks very "american". i.e. long and wide. (For the country where parking spaces are so big you have to drive across them.) Omigod, the interior looks like they nicked the left over bits of leather from the Campaign production runs...!
-
Clearly you need one of these... http://whathifi.com/hi-fi/archive/2008/ ... -here.aspx ".. system able not only to keep a consistent sound regardless of the speed of the vehicle, but tune the sound for any area of the car, or any type of listening material. In the installation we saw, in the convertible Continental GTC, it can also compensate for whether or not the roof is up."

And as for recommendations on a fitter.. it would help to know roughly where you are in the world..! ;)
