  1. Even I have a mint set of refurbed Speedlines tucked away and as standard fare they're OK although a little limiting for those wanting a brake upgrade. Seeing as I run 312mm brakes which themselves are modest compared to some of the monster brakes on here i'll just have to settle for second best and run on one of my sets of RS 301s, if only I had limited myself to a 288mm upgrade  Oh well BBS it is

  2. If you keep your eyes open you can get some good qualty preowned coilovers when people sell their cars or change up. For instance early next year I will be changing my coilovers and will be selling low mileage FK Koingsport coilovers, they retail at approx £620 and i'd be looking at approx £250 far better than cheap poor quality set ups

  3. Apologies for the late reply Critical Mass. I must confess mines a perfect fit and never given me any problems but at the time off fiiting we used a small jubilee clip along side the rear most rubber hanger to keep it from moving side to side and the rubber itself is very compact to ensure the back box sits well up. I hope that is some help.

Critical Mass I see you have KW V1s fitted, could you let me know how you find them?

Chris I understand you have had a little work in the engine bay recently how do you find it?

  4. Great to see a Campaign getting the love. I think the thing to do with the leather would probably be the pick a new hide in a very close color match and restore the full interior. The original will be aging now anyway, I just had my Recaros retrimmed and they look better than factory fresh.

I helped set up the North Lancs meet many years ago and stayed involved for a number of years but it pretty much dwindled away when Dave Freeman stepped down as host. This meet has been taken over by the NWVag meet at the Leaa Gate, Preston and the Unplased H2O meet at the Boatmans, Riley Green

  5. Everthing you say confirms my experience with powdercoating the RS. Think I might as well try for the factory finish BBS silver. Just wondered as they sell it as paint weere they originally wet painted? Either way that seems the route I must take, but no more messing with colours silver it is!

  6. Zak the car looks simply sublime on the rebuilt RS. I have just bought back the black set of RS 301s I built with the dishes on the rear the same as yours making them 8x17. Whilst they still look great in black you can't beat the factory fresh look of bright silver so I think they may be due a redo. I've had several previous attempts with powdercoat, all failed too much product meant the front and rear dishes wouldn't fit up properly and the threads on the centre cap prevented the caps fitting. Was resigned to a paint solution until I noticed your post. Can you let me know how you got on please? Thanks

  7. Just seen this post on Edition 38 and copied it across, the rear axle plates sound a great idea! Any thoughts?

The products we will be offering in the group buy with pricing as follows,

    greatplatesmk4_fu.gif

GREAT PLATES These take care of the age old problem found on VW’s mk2, mk3, mk4 and Corrado models. When lowering the rear of the car with an aftermarket suspension, the rear trailing arms begin to swing toward the front of the car pushing the rear tires into the front area of the wheel opening. When this happens, tire clearance is severely reduced.

GREAT PLATES sandwich between the front trailing arm mounting brackets and the body to relocate the entire axle approximately 13mm rearward. Installation is very simple and can be completed in the garage or driveway with a jack, jack stands and a few hand tools in under an hour.

Each kit includes pair of GREAT PLATES (L & R) and new Grade-8 hardware!

  8. I never had my car rolling roaded as being a pessimist where cars are concerned I knew it would drive me mad if it didn't produce factory figures, and it seems you are now worrying unduly too. Then first thing Ben did when he bought my car was put it straight on a RR and it showed 200bhp.

However as already stated all rolling roads seem to give different readings and it often more enlightening to compare to others on the same RR on the same day. The figure of 182bhp and torque 164.5 lbs/ft (coverted) seem broadly balanced with the factory figures of 190 bhp and 180 torque and i'm sure there is nothing to worrry about and you'll no doubt get more reassuring figures on other RR.

  9. Retrim is by Andy Mayer at Snappy Gaitors. Sadly he is only an amateur working part time in a shed at the bottom of his garden. His day job is trimming for Bentley in Crewe :D

As they are part of the VAG group does this qualify as the ultimate source for an OEM+ retrim LOL

  10. Not much to report.

Sold the front Recaro covers following the retrim and rear bench is now at the trimmers for the same treatment having sold the rear seat covers too.

Got my hands on a 3 spoke BBS steering wheel

Considering KW coliovers for next year and always thinking about wheels but there or there abouts now :)
