Castle Combe VW/Audi day 14th july
captainredeye replied to captainredeye's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
yes mate there should be a space for us in the paddock will be getting there sometime after 9. Me thinks a damp track might make things interesting tomorrow. -
Yep dry test only as the compression was good, have quite a bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust when I rev the engine. I may just do the head and then replace the lot when I have a decent rebuilt block don't want to whack another block straight in as most are high mileage and likely to have some sort of problem crop up. ---------- Post added at 5:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:15 PM ---------- Oil control ring I take it that is one of the other 2 rings on the piston

Well all cylinders are bang on 12 bar except number 4 which is 12.8 so really no problems there. I have found the front row of spark plugs were all slightly oily and my other concern is I have found oil in the intake manifold which I think has come from the cam breather valve, is this normal?

Castle Combe VW/Audi day 14th july

Well i have given up on washing the car, that R stuff is going to be heavy later on in the day so might be ok for the early part. -
Iam testing compression later today in the vr as its been using alot of oil, there is some seepage around the gasket on cylinder 1 and 6, now talking to my dad he has suggested doing the compression test if it fails then spray some oil into the piston chamber to seal the piston if it still fails he reckons it could be a valve seal in the head. Cams will be going in soon and i have a ported head so thinking of doing a head rebuild so will do the head gasket then, i am though worried about having bore wear to deal with and a lot more hassle. Any thoughts on this? could i use wd40 instead of spraying a little oil into the piston chamber or just not bother?

Ok dokey, for those that are coming i m getting a sarnie and a coffee at the wetherspoons at 9am in chippenham, will be parking in the lower car park thats goes along the river next to waitrose on gladstone road. -
Think if you get caught again in a certain time frame something like 12 months they will whack you with the 3 points and then the 3 from the second offence meaning the money you paid for the course is lost.

:( Head gasket gone. Sell for parts or fix ? need help please
captainredeye replied to Crispy Squirrel's topic in Engine Bay
Ok it was me that pipped up about the vr, re wrote my original post and didn't correct properly so sorry for that! Cash and space restriction your having i would suggest taking it off the road or selling as a none runner, it sucks but the way you have put it, it sounds like you need an engine and gear box overhaul and that wont be cheap! -
Hows that then? granted with the schrick you have to remove a small section from the bonnet and im guessing with the vsr you still have to cut into the wires to fit the control box , i found installing my schrick mani it slotted in just like the standard manifold, i have a concertina section but that didnt seem to need any persuasion.

Just get it fixed. 1500 in total for a vr with a head gasket you know has just been replaced ain't bad. -
Talking about this in a previous thread and just found this though it would be quite handy for any one wanting to change ratio's. http://teammfactory.com/gearcalculator.php

Little update, i have the passes for the main paddock there is still a few spaces for any straglers and need to confirm numbers by end of wednesday, to miss the main traffic its been suggested to arrive at 830-900 but any time after that is ok. I can send out the passes via post or we could meet up before going into combe circuit was aiming for about 9ish. -
Standard gaskets are the way forward and toying with the idea of arp bolts while im at it , confused mainly about the tappets as you can get heavy duty ones and different makes of valve stems, springs and seals. I take it you can only find out if the bores are worn on visual inspection when the head is off? quite tempted to just get a second block and build engine number 2 and drop it in. Yes Combe is still on i have the passes for the main paddock i will update the thread in a bit.

The vr is using oil quite rapidly there is some white smoke from the back on gear changes but quite a bit of seepage around the head so I have decided to take the plunge and do ahead rebuild, I have just nabbed myself a tsr ported head and have shimmel cams on the way so it's worth replacing everything in the head while I'm at it. Do i stick with oem parts or source some supposed uprated bits?
-
Gutted for you Jake! If its for the best it will help you part with the c no end but the main thing is its not your first corrado and a sure bet its not the last.
-
It's a good price just a case of the right buyer coming along, as said can take a little time. Even the schrick manifolds can hang around and when several come on the market they get snapped up sharpish.
-
Could you move the battery then shield the area off from the radiator to give you space for some cooler air to be sucked in. I was wondering when you were going on The rolling road love to know what mine is putting out or isn't.
