  1. I think you just wanted to rename the whole place "Swompy land" description: "Swompy and all his bitches..." Good job i stopped you in time...
  2. nope, he's emailing me back tonight. But either way i'm having it... I could resell it for £150 and make some money on it if all else fails!
  3. Sorry, Does this mean my g60 (pulling 180+bhp) may get a little sluggish in 5th? well I knew it would get a little slower but i wanted the box for improved fuel economy. Would it be better to try and up the power at some point to get more out of the gears? ---------- Post added at 10:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:31 AM ---------- Ahh cheers Monkey but my mums pub has 3 workshops, I'm sure she can stuff it away somewhere!
  4. yeah i know you numpty! it was you who changed the name of the map to Swompy
  5. WOW! really? cus if that's the case Ill just get them to do it now thanks pal! ANy advance on £30!
  6. I've just used this to look up members in cornwall.. A useful conclusion to a thread i started and it only took a year! lol PS I added you MJCP ;) ---------- Post added at 10:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ---------- is swompy messing with my maps???? :( ---------- Post added at 10:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:16 AM ---------- I think i see a problem here... You need to use the BLUE markers ON THE MAP to add your location. Zoom in to the area you live grab a blue marker from the top left hand side of the map screen and drop it in the correct place. you can then fill in your details. DON'T edit the map name/description!
  7. Ive just bought a gearbox from Cornwall..... :bonk: I need to eventually get it to Dundee but for now I'll need it shipped to Swindon as I drive down there to see my folks every now and again. The gear box is located in Delabole, Cornwall. I know it's a long shot but my ideal question would be: Can any one pick this up and drop it off in Swindon for me? I can offer some money of course for petrol and your trouble. You'll need a relatively large car or van and you will need some thing to wrap it in too. The second and more realistic question is could someone who lives nearby go and collect it and take it back to their house. If you could store it for a few weeks It would REALY help me out! I will arrange a courier to collect it from your house at your convenience and again will reimburse you for any problems this may cause. Failing those two options, advice on good couriers would be most welcome! :thumbleft:
  8. I'm going to try and get it to Swindon... That's about 2hours away and that's where my Mum lives... she can hold on to it for a bit until I drive down to visit. I'll pick it up myself then.
  9. brilliant response mate thanks. I do hope it is the CTN box, as you say I think my little engine may struggle pulling away untill i up the power. But that will be happening over time :D I just have to find a way of getting it from cornwall to Dundee now... :bonk:
  10. then you have no excuse.. your mpg is rubbish!
  11. ok ok.... will this fit? I'll buy it now if it will! I have someone in cornwall that can pick it up for me! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mk3-volkswagon-golf-tdi-gearbox-may-fit-others-/230616393392?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b1cee6b0 I'm wanting to put it on my 91 G60. It looks like a 02A box but how can i tell if its an ASD or a CTN? I'd rather have the CTN... ---------- Post added at 05:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:13 PM ---------- well your all too slow... i bought it! If i get it then it will mean using money i had been saving for coil-overs but still, nice to have i reckon!
  12. done! ---------- Post added at 05:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:28 PM ---------- I've bought it but not paid for it... I'm going to get them to confirm the box type before I pay for it. I'll also have to talk to a courier on cost of shipping... :pale: If it's a CTN box then i'll get it. The ASD might be a little to highly geared for my poor little G60
  13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/mk3-volkswagon-golf-tdi-gearbox-may-fit-others-/230616393392?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b1cee6b0 just maybe... this will do? I know it's 500miles away but i have a friend in cornwall who could maybe hold it for me... :)
  14. Sooo, because its the same casing then it will fit in the same place using the same stuff.... I don't have to worry about things like the golf box having a cable clutch or anything like that? If so that's good news! I'll be looking to buy one if i can get a low millage second hand one! ---------- Post added at 05:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:00 PM ---------- ahh sorry monkey, i just got the 16v ones I had galvanised.
  15. the pattern parts often need trimmed down from experience to get them to fit properly. I don't blame you for wanting to get original second hand.
  16. Thus my point with the gearing.... That fabia must be at 4000RPM at 70mph... a larger 2-3 litre skoda could have a longer gearing and so lower revs. ---------- Post added at 04:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ---------- btw alot of modern engines turn off injectors under light loads. My Dads x-type for instance...
  17. I'll second that, take a wire brush to the hub before you re-attach the wheel, get off all the surface rust/imperfections then grease it up with copper grease or something.
  18. you could try heating the rim up with a hot air gun? alloy expands at a different rate to steel so should just fall off if you get it hot enough.
  19. Bigger engines squirt less fuel to maintain the higher speeds because of the gearing isn't it? not necessarily engine size. Bigger car has longer gear ratio
  20. I've never really looked into it in great detail as I'm not very good at the mechanical side of automotive engineering but as far as I'm aware from searching the G60 would benefit greatly from having a new gear box fitted. NOW... I currently have a gear box oil leak somewhere on the car so a new gear box could actually be on the cards as i'll need to get the existing one off anyway to replace seals and stuff I reckon. If this is the case then a CTN golf mk3 diesel gear box could be just the ticket! I'd like some advice though before I rush off and spend £130 on a gear box. I've glanced over the info I could find but I still have a few questions: Will my car cope with the longer gear ratios? When my car was last driving around she was pulling around 180bhp. Will she struggle to get going? I want to increase the power eventually but not for a while... need to get her road worthy first. What do I need?! People have mentioned in other threads new clutches and various other components that you need but then others have said you don't need them. Confusion then sets in... So what is it that I need to change my gear box over? Is it easy... Bare in mind im a retard with a spanner. If it's a simple case of removing the gearbox and fitting a new one then i should manage that but if there are different mounting positions, clutches need changing etc. then i may not be up to it I'm sure these questions have been asked before but the amount of literature on the CF alone makes me shudder. If anyone can point me to particular threads or simply answer these questions i would be very great full! xxx :thumbleft: ---------- Post added at 12:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:01 PM ---------- PS. Ive looked at this briefly... but i don't understand most of it... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?31273-best-gear-ratios-for-g60-gearbox/page2&highlight=ctn+gear+box ---------- Post added at 12:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:04 PM ---------- Again... sorry for being dumb but how do I discover the code for my existing gear box on the corrado? I know it's a 02A but the G60 has 5 different box codes by the look of it.... Book1.pdf I'm just so confused!!!!
  21. That's where most of the savings will be made i think... at 2000rpm you'll be little more than ticking over. I was thinking of getting the 5th gear swap described in the wiki but this gear box swap intrigues me...
  22. That doesn't say much for us now does it! Poor fella, i bet he was dreaming of a little sticker or something saying "yes... this is a heated seat" and for one of us to kindly point him towards it. Instead he gets boost monkey to the face :thumbleft:
  23. OR... more to the point, 10-1 there will be a switch for the seats in the car. I think apart from the wiring loom they're identical to look at...
  24. take a hatchet and cut them like a suckling pig... Rip out their foamy innards and see if you can see the heating element.
  25. Oooo good to know! you shouuld star on "Top Tips" or "Trade Secrets"
