1. was about half way down the cable... Can this be used?
2. Thanks Guys! It's not been an easy road to travel, but when I sit in the car for the first time in 2 years and drive to mull for my holidays... I'm hoping it will be worth it! Last night was spent fitting the rear suspension. Allot less faffing about than the front but still tricky by yourself. New top mounts went on with these... even though the old ones didn't look to bad to be honest, but better i change them now i reckon. The same however couldn't be said for my rear oem suspension that came off... Thats right... thats the spring in bits... It just fell apart! I can't believe this wasn't picked up in the last MOT i had, it must have been coming along for a long time.
3. Item 4 on the image bellow.... Can some one tell me the part number? TAH!
4. 1. Once when i was working on the car I tried to remove the starter motor. Spent the hole day removing the alternator instead... I have no idea why i thought the alternator was the starter motor but i didn't twig until I was about 30miles away at my flat looking at a alternator on my dinning room table. 2. Drove the car without tightening up my front engine mount bolt... Was wondering what that slamming noise was, the engine jumping up and down in the engine bay! 3. Driving along a very dark road at night and at speed... lights not uprated so was trying to drive by candle light. drove along and saw a turning to the right.... turned out to be a farm track and the actual road went away to the left... hit the track at 60mph in the pitch dark!!! Lukily nothing serious happened! I bought my up-rated loom a month later though! 4. Tying to solder the sunroof arm to the mech after it broke (don't ask...), ended up soldering a screwdriver to the mech instead... I decided to get a new mech after that!
5. I had a friend on face book say this the other day.... "Not trying to be negative dude, but are you sure she can be/should be fixed? Looks like extremely long, drawn-out, painful life-support..." This after I had just spent £1500 on parts... :(
6. hmm If I can use it I'm happy enough... It's £20 for a new one from VAG, it's pretty badly torn thou, from the look of it, it may have got damaged during transit. The way you had wrapped it meant that the ring where the banjo bolt goes in was rubbing against the braided side. I'll take a picture later tonight so you can see for yourself. Maybe give me a discount on some other things would be nice though :D Like £5 for your Steel lower support bracket and bolt delivered?
7. PM's Sent! :) ---------- Post added at 10:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 AM ---------- I've had allot of PM's regarding these extra rollers and I'm wanting them gone soon. So I'll wait until tonight. If the above folk haven't paid then I'm offering them to the other folk who have pm'd 4eyes, got your payment fine, Cheers!
8. Just to let you know mate that pipe arrived today! It looks torn though, was it damaged when you posted it?
9. I recently bought a bag of citric acid!! used it to make bath bombs! £5 for a kg, so about £4 cheaper! will have to keep that in mind! Nice article too, might give some of that a go! :)
10. would you like the 3 spare i have then? These being obsolete, I'm unlikely to get any more for some time....
11. Yeah, I've got some of that stuff too... I'm just lazy! But i think your right. Might get a brass brush angle grinder on it too.
12. Hi there all! Anyone got any tips on cleaning hubs? I was thinks of submerging them in this: http://www.carnaubawaxshop.co.uk/detailing/89/bilthamber-deoxc-1kg They are second hand hubs but have new bearings in them. Will getting them wet fudge up the bearings??? Advice please :D
13. I did the brakes on my mk4 polo a few years ago. It's dead easy, just like plumbing! Get onto bealUK and get yourself some male and female unions (a few quid for a tub full) and a flaring kit (about £20, less than halfords anyway!) it will take you about a day to change every pipe and you'll need to bleed the brakes when your done. If you've got a abs system on your car I would get a garage to bleed it though, pressure bleeding at home isn't fun.
14. Lol, well that's them all gone now!! Sorry to any one else who wanted any! The ones who got in 1st are Domvwells27 Chrisvw419 VR6Pete 4eyes2wheels You will all get pm's tomorrow with payment info. :) _meth... If you want the 3 spare then that's ok for £9 but that's all I've got sorry! Let me know.
15. I have 4 sets left is anyone is intersted. (4 in one set) I also have a further 3 spare that'll cost £9 to post. :)
16. thing is the car is up on axle stands just now and trying to move the engine out on trolly jacks sounds a little hairy... do you think my idea is plausible?
17. I considered this, ive seen the tool in the bently manual and thought it looked straight forward enough to fix a few timber CLS planks across, I'd have to go buy some structural timber though. I've been considering having a go with a few trolly jacks too! It's the subframe I need out. Was going to have a go tonight at sitting the whole engine on the front mount and raising it up at the back, supporting the car chassis via the front cross member..... Then undoing the rear engine mounts and dropping the subframe from underneath. Not sure how easy that would be though!
18. Some more pictures of the front cross memeber. These where taken on my mate Ali's phone and show the TRUE colour of the rad panel and cross member.
19. Hey! sorry about not getting back to anyone! my car has been absorbing all my time recently! I have (I think) 2 full spare sets still lying around. I'll dig them out and post them to who ever wants them.
20. Yeah, i realized how much time i spent on here after i couldn't log on any more.... Like an addiction
21. just to keep you happy Supercharged.... OLD NEW HAPPY!!!
22. They look ideal mate! Have got a loan of an engine hoist and will be hopefully dropping the sub frame this weekend (so long as the weather holds...) to get the second hand PAS pipes and rack i have fitted. Then it's on with the new hubs and rear suspension. QUICK QUESTION: would it be stupid of me to submerse the rusty hubs I have in this stuff? http://www.carnaubawaxshop.co.uk/detailing/89/bilthamber-deoxc-1kg Am I right in thinking this wont do my baring any good? ---------- Post added at 01:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:55 PM ---------- Ran as a daily in Edinburgh. Did about 70k miles on cold salty town roads, also kept outside next to the sea (firth and forth estuary). Then (as i described to Yan) when my front suspension collapsed due to a broken subframe i don't think the garage i used replaced any of the bushes, track rods, top links,ARB bushes etc... they just slapped the old stuff back on. And then it sat idle for almost 2 years on my drive (6 months of which was without a car cover). At one point it was under 3 feet of snow. Sooooo, it's not had the best life so far!
