Is this something that the experts should do or could i get a second hand screen and retro fit? is the sealant hard to remove without cracking the screen?
-
the fibre glass and filler have done the trick getting the shape ok, not sure how its going to hang up strength wise but the finish of the sanding and everything im really happy with.. its just the painting. I can't afford to get it professionally sprayed (or buy new panels for that matter as there are parts of each panal that need work done on them, i'd have to buy a whole new set! :gag: ) so I'm using aerosol cans... and with all the rain we have been having its made the air wet and the shed I'm working in is full of dust... all leading to really crap finishes on the paint. I haven't lacquered yet so there's still time to correct the errors in the paint. but without a clean, dry dust free environment to work in I'm stuck doing nothing at the moment :( The only reason I keep going back to her is because i want to save her from the eternal scrape pile in the sky... at the rate ppl are braking these cars there wont be many left soon

She aint going so well.... A lack of funds, bad weather and high levels of humidity have come together to produce a crap finish to the areas of the car I've been painting... I'm currently looking at getting a pal to come over and give me a hand. I realy wont the body work done so i can prime the underside of the car and get her propped up on supports ready for the winter but at the moment its not looking at all like its going to happen before October/November  Im going to get some pictures of the affected areas up asap. any suggestions would be welcome...

I saw a black VR6 driving past lidle in Cupar, Fife at about lunch time yesterday... anyone know who that is?

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! dont do it no benefit at all bottom end is the bit you would change to get more bhp i know you can swap over the block from the 2litre and keep the G60 head and injectors for a BHP gain but alot of ppl on here seem to think its not that reliable. Also i'll need to do loads of work to the block to make it work with the charger. Didnt know about that head kev, but it would be easy enough to find out the valve sizes. And im not doing anything to the engine just now so i have time too investigate. Thanks for the help!

as per the title, is it possible to swap heads from the g60 and use the 2litre 8v? My pal is doing something similar to a 8v Porsche he has as hes been told it will increase the BHP by 30 or so. I assume ill need all the usual stuff? gasket, bolts, skim etc, as with any time you remove the head. But what else would i need and would there be any benefit from doing this conversion? Baring in mind that i have a fully functional G60 block now with no faults other than it needs a clean, don't really wont to have to take the head off unless its worth it. I think ill need a injection system from the 2litre? am i just being silly and can it even be done?

Did some more work on the C this weekend. Only being able to work on her once a week is becoming frustrating esspecialy as i have a million other things to get done. But at least she is under cover in a garage now instead of in the road. Saturday was working on the wheel arches 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00078.JPG[/attachment:1h9nos1x] this was one of the holes. Its a little big for ip38 alone so I firstly sprayed a few coats of Hamerite up into the gap between the two panels to kill any rust that might be hiding. DSC00079.JPG[/attachment:1h9nos1x] I then went on to re-sand the metal and fill the hole with fibreglass on both sides, at least 5mm below the finished paint level. I repeated this process on about 4-5 other spots round the car, the biggest hole being approximately the size of a golf ball :gag: just as i finished however it started to rain so i went in for the day. Next Saturday is sanding down the filler and spraying

Is there much benefits in getting the injectors cleaned (VR6
Alex_G60_Fanatic replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
 That seems like a hell of allot of money. My Dad drives a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder X-type Jag and it only cost him about £100 to get the whole injection system cleaned (Fife auto centre in Glenrothes) It certainly improves your performance but id check out some other places for price first -
Looking at taking my G60 there in a few weeks for a chip and re-map. does anyone have any horror stories i should be aware of? vr6storm seems to think they do a decent job but my pal (whole lives in Star) tells me they dont have that good a rep. Whos right? http://www.starperformance.co.uk/

well that IS good news!

Hello all! I became a member here almost a month ago but I've still to post pictures of my C. I've been waiting for the sun to come out so i can work on her without fear of rain (as when i first bought her i didn't have a garage to work in!!) and i thought I'd better wait for some in-progress pictures before posting as she looked a mess when i first got her! I kinda got diddled buying her. Completely Std charged G60 with Tax and MOT (but with nothing left on the brakes) and 160k on the clock for £1800 :brickwall:  I had my heart set on her though and i couldn't find anything similar to her within 150 miles so i bit the bullet and bought her... 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfcorrado 010.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] corrado 013.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] There was rust everywhere but at the time i saw it as minor, Fox alloys ( :pukeright:) were scuffed and almost dead but again who cares... they where cheep alloys anyway!. Also, the boy I bought it off had a receipt from G-works for the charger being ported and with a new 68mm pulley about 20k miles previously so i had a good 15k before i had to worry about that but otherwise it was all standard, which was fine. At the time i was looking for a car to concourse so i didn't mind she was standard. But then some bad news... Driving her home from work i noticed she was pulling to the right, so on a quiet bit on a B road i "jiggled" the steering from side to side to try and gage the problem... The problem soon became apparent when my OS tyre collapsed and I flew off into the hedge :pale:. Subframe had been completely torn and the wheel had just shot straight up into the wheel arch.. I seriously considered saying Bu**er to the G60 dream and scrapping her there and then when i stumbled across this forum. With all you happy chaps talking about what a shame it was to loose a rado as they aren't that common. And at the same time i came into possession of a shed! :norty: So, AGAIN i said bugger to expense and scrapped the EARTH trying to get a new subframe, wish bones and anti-roll bar. Finally managed to get some in Perth second hand from a I-plate rado (rip :salute: ) and got them fitted for me.. £300 notes later I now have a Corrado with the same problems as before but at least she could be driven without a tow rope! Anywho, that was 3 months ago when i finally found a GOOD subframe and had it fitted. Since then I have been concentrating on the body work as i decided to get a second car for when i started working on the C (l.4L Polo) so i wasn't really well off. Also, a shed is one thing but i needed a dry place to work on her out of the rain, and until 4 weeks ago when i got a shot of my GF's garage she was just sitting on the drive. So on to the cosmetics! :afro: stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf2009 211.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] ETKA Corrado.pdf2009 212.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf2009 216.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] This is her last week, I had just started to remove the flaking paint where the rusty bits where. You can see that most of the cills and arches where going from the areas i've done. Corrado92.pdf2009 215.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf2009 227.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] and to top it off i went and found this on the OS rear wheel arch climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf2009 218.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] :censored: So, tomorrow is finish sanding off the arches, bonnet and cills, then get in there with some Krust (or something!) before patching up the hole with fibreglass and smoothing off that and the rest of the car with some isopon P38. then off too do my alloys. You may have noticed one of the alloys has the bolt cover missing. That's because im currently respraying the alloys (the one with the missing cover has been done) while also experimenting with replacing the FOX badge with a G60 one. Dont know how best to proceed though. Might have to be HAND PAINTED, but then i DO have a GCSE in art you know! :camp: Jan 2010 Gunna be keeping a list of problems and mods with pictures to follow in the thread when i fix/fit them. Cheapmods G60 Project - 1.8T or G60??
Alex_G60_Fanatic replied to Cheapmods's topic in Members Gallery
What the "some C**t has nick me wheels!" look? Nah, that primer looks good but i think you'll be happier once you put a lick of paint on her... it just looks good because the paint is all one colour again! Nice thread by the way, your really sticking in the effort :thumb right: -
How to make 1 key open all 4 locks - cheap!
Alex_G60_Fanatic replied to Kevin Bacon's topic in Exterior
I know what you mean! My favourite part of my car is my key Chain!!! -
You'll have to look at the efficiency of the LPG then. Because your running a high performance engine i think any saving you'll make at the pump per litre will be off set by the fact that LPG gives a reduced MPG. You'll end up having to re-fuel every five minuets!
-
if you going to put a tank in the back make it a tank of NOS and get some more horses out that G60 :norty: :norty: :norty: :norty: :norty: I did find some good news though... this is good evaluation of the general chemical differences. It describes LPG as having a much higher octane level... and the g6o does love octane rich fuel... i still think that the charger will suffer from the increased temps and top end torque as well....
-
tiss true, burning LPG produces less heat and less expansion. That leads to lower crank pressure... but LPG gives of its heat "quicker" because its a gas at S.T.P. while petrol is a liquid and forms droplets in the cylinder while combustion is taking place. That means that the engine actually runs HOTTER (which is never good with a charger that's fed off the same oil as the engine!) Also, (generally) LPG runs similar to petrol until you reach high revs at the top end where it drops off. A seeing as this is where most of the G-Chargers power comes in id say that the drop in performance will be turning your 252bhp car into a little "gas guzzling" girls car. And finally, i know LPG is much cheaper, but you wont have much of a saving when you realize your averaging 12-15mpg. Because of the lower combustion temp the engine needs to push more fuel through the injectors to produce the same acceleration. I you may make a net saving at the pump but it wont be much... I'd more inclined on converting you Passat work horse to get me the bigger saving on the old fuel

How to make 1 key open all 4 locks - cheap!
Alex_G60_Fanatic replied to Kevin Bacon's topic in Exterior
To right! i had to go in with a can of WD40 just to get the ignition key to push in!! I'm so used to having the wrong key and working central locking that i don't think i've used to the key in that lock since i got the car! :gag:
