  1. Hi folks..

See attached screenshot. Pulling my hair out trying to work out which is the ECU temperature sensor.. #8 is the single pin connector that feeds the temp gauge and #36 is the thermotime (only used for cold start apparently) - so WTF part is it?

Going to VAG in the next few days for my next round up parts purchase and would like to get this at the same time if possible! :)

    Cheers.

  2. The standard fuel pump on the valver is capable of pushing far more fuel into the engine than it actually requires - I think I read that it can supply something up to 8 or 9 bar quite happily so that certainly doesn't need changing. As for the FPR.. well to be honest I really doubt there are any gains to be made from changing it!

  3. Indeed. I'm not sure what causes the dreadful fuel economy but I think the 2.0 16v is well regarded as not being an entirely fuel efficient engine. Having a KR cam in there doesn't help much either. Tend to get anything from 20 - 24MPG for my trip to work.. :(

  4. Well I seem to get anything from high teens to low 20's in stop start town traffic. Its pretty dire. Overall though if I drive carefully, I can average about 28MPG - thats worked out from the pump, rather than what the MFA is telling me!

  5. This has been asked before. Lots :) It tells you inside your petrol filler cap!

95RON is fine. You should see slightly better running from 97RON like BP Ultimate or better. I personally run my car on Ultimate as often as I can, but there is no reason why you shouldn't just use 95RON stuff.

  6. Hm... sounds weird... I had the exact opposite when my wiper relay was playing up - I only had max speed but intermittent and slow did not work. Worth just pulling the relay and reseating it as that sorted it in my case!

  7. Rotor arms were glued on by VW from the factory. It makes them a complete and utter turd to get off.. best thing is a big pair of mole grips to crack them off but you have to be careful putting too much force on there as you don't want to bend or damage in anyway the shaft into the distributor. Changed the rotor arm on two 2.0 16v's (well, Supercharged did my most recent one.. but it sounded like it was being a PITA :D) and they've been welded on there proper hard both times!

  8. Its been suggested that my suspension is possibly one of the reasons for my dreadful, ongoing handling problems.. considering getting it changed as and when funds allow for something nice, new and shiny.

Does anyone have a reccommendation for a good, basic, set of coilovers - they don't need to be ride damping adjustable (have it atm but never use it!), but ride height adjustment would be nice. Want them to be ideally suitable for 95% road use and 5% hoonery :) Ride wise I would prefer something fairly in between - I don't mind a firm ride but don't want crashy as the roads round here aren't exactly in a good state! At the moment the Weitec kits sound nice as they're more affordable than the Koni and KW type stuff.. anyone have experience of these sorts of kits? I will start skimming through this thread at some point but at 14 pages I need to set aside a bit of time!! :)

  9. Its weird. I used to periodically get this on my G60 but never found the cause, and never had any side effects from it as a result. I'm sure it was identified and discussed on here some time ago as its definately not the first time i've heard of this :)

  10. I think, to be totally realistic about this, that police will only enforce it when they actually need some powers to break up a troublesome "krooz" or similar.

I just don't expect to see roadblocks for convoys most car enthusiasts provided everyone is behaving.. if however you end up with burnouts and generally wreckless behaviour down at the local Asda at 2am then the laws are there for the police to use.

  11. You should try using the search a bit as cam discussions come up a lot on here.

One of the best (and cheapest) for the 2.0 16v is the KR inlet cam - gives a very nice increase and can be found 2nd hand nice and cheap on here (or other VW forums) on a regular basis.

  12. The injunction carries a maximum two year jail sentence for anyone found breaching the order and will remain in place for two years before review.

Insanity. You can spend less time in jail for far far greater crimes than that.

What about classic car enthusiasts? I went to a pub last weekend where a load of old boys get together with old classic motors (with the blessing of the pubs owners I might add), drink half a bitter and then toddle off home again! I can just see an overzealous copper coming after them as they depart.

Really.. how tragic this country is getting.

  13. 954cc Peugeot 205 Trio..

To be fair it was really reliable (careful lady owner prior to me) but I treated it like crap. It wouldn't go any faster than about 80MPH and cornering on it was frankly terrifying. But if only all motoring could be as cheap as that! Was superb in that respect! :)

  14. HIC!

PM martinb on here for some contact details (he works for em and is an all round good egg!) and see what he can do for you. Got my best Corrado insurance package through him this year :)
