1. i noticed after a quick look at the weekend a couple of tiny hex type nuts/ bolts at each side that look like they connect the glass/ mechanism, are these the adjustment you're referring to?
2. Thank you Dave :) As soon as brembo, kone, kw, h&r, halfords etc start campaigning so will I...
3. lol i've read the entire proposal and all the annexes, i make a point of doing that before spouting about stuff! There's nothing in it that worry's me at all, its actually pretty commendable.
4. A petition against a proposal that aims to improve road worthiness, save lives and doesn't penalise modifications, it's absurd.
5. manuafactures are making it downloadable, others are copying it and posting it on ebay. maybe its time to start a CF Standards Thread with downloadable content for the common upgrades?
6. 'characteristics' is a deliberately loose term on its own, if it said something like 'components must maintain the exact design and performance characterists established at first registration' i'd be more worried, not only that but the further approval mentioned is the roadworthiness test! the government aren't happy because they'll be required to ensure testing competence, provide training, ensure testing, start roadside spot checks and ensure equipment compliance and calibration of every backstreet MOT/ roadworthiness check garage in England/ Scotland & Wales (NI already has centralised govn't testing) - this will cost them a fortune! Ireland doesn't even have a mandatory MOT, or at least its not heavily enforced historically, this legislation targets that base requirement. annexe 3 doesn't say coilovers are illegal, it doesn't even mention them by term, it limits defficiencies to those that adversely affect the cars safety - i.e. chopped springs, missing bolts, weeping shocks etc. if this threatened the aftermark modification market we'd be reading about it on every manufactures website and every scene magazine, i'm only reading about it on enthusiast forums!
7. http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=COM:2012:0380(51):FIN:EN:PDF this is annexe 3 which lists and rates the 'deficiencies' brakes for an example - check out footnote 8 of page 41. in fact checkout footnote 1 which says only modifications which adversley affect road safety are deficiencies, everything else is couched in the term 'inappropriate'. its pretty specific on 'illegal ECU modifications' though....!
8. /\ exactly vornwend, I've half read it and it's very open to interpretation, you lot need to calm down lol.
9. not fully read it yet, but an interesting post from a local NI forum member, hope he doesn't mind me pasting it. I occasionally buy old accessories or parts items from Europe. I've noticed an emphasis lately by sellers (particularly German ones) on whether or not the piece being sold comes with it's original TUV approval papers. These papers were originally supplied to show an item passed safety tests so I'm guessing they're gearing up for this legislation. In fact you'll even find sellers offering the papers alone for older parts, presumably to buyers wanting to replace lost or missing proof they're items were once approved. These TUV tests have been required for decades and paperwork was always supplied to prove compliance, it's only lately that formally proving this has become an issue. My understanding is legislators aren't trying to prevent future cars being modified or past cars taken off the road, just ensuring the parts currently being sold or previously used meet or met with safety testing requirements. If you can produce proof to show a given part was approved at some point you'll be OK. Established and reputable makers of after-market accessories or parts in Germany already recognise older cars will have non-standard items fitted for which this proof is missing and are now listing downloadable TUV documents for long since deleted items they've manufactured or sold to assist owners pass future tests. I can only see this trend continuing or even being made compulsory. If he's correct then its emminently sensible, no more chopped springs and 3" wheel spacers etc etc and more importantly, no reduction in tax revenue from reputable suppliers to the governement, no loss of jobs accross a large industry and continued extension of older vehicles life which is sustainable approach.
10. lol. netsky's a class producer, there's a clip on you tube somewhere of cruiser boards passing cars on a downhill section in California. Found it, look up blue suit bombers, class video too.
11. you've gotta be on the wind up? the space race was driven by the cold war - who had the better scientists, greater investment, technical know how, astronauts, training etc etc. given there's f'all there and its damned expensive to do, if you were in charge would you try and convince taxpayers already suffering the worst downturn since the great depression that its a good idea, not as an issue of national pride, but to prove a point to nay-sayers lol. political suicide, so why bother. and its not that people don't believe these events aren't possible, everyone knows about asteroid strikes, ice ages etc, its because joe average would rather put the chance of a catastrophic event to the back of their minds than sit there worrying about their kids, family, friends etc - what exactly do you expect people to do? sit their like gibbering wrecks trembling about an impending doom they read about on the internet, or saw on TV, one which ultimately they can do frig all about to stop or influence lol? personally i'll crack on with life!
12. agree with this, its madness not too have a few for the price of them in every car, and keep a big one in the garage as well, i had to use one when weld spatter ignited dust/ hair/ fabric/ rubbish which had gathered between the inner and outer panels, car filled with smoke and could have ignited the seats/ lining so I emptied the whole lot down the cavity! my car was on axle stands so I couldn't roll it out, it could have taken the garage and contents with it :/
13. I find Occams approach to be useful in assessing most competing theory's, doesn't mean it's always the correct approach as black swans do exist! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam's_razor
14. Here you go, not my car!
15. thread ressurection :) just fitted a moon roof from a passat with the 43R-001090 number, but I do have a sizeable gap especially at the rear. now the seal is very tired and perished looking, no felt left on it at all so I was going to buy a new one, but VW are quoting £61.51 exc VAT - which is bordering on extortion given what it is, anyone else bought one for cheaper or from somewhere else?! at that price i feel a 2nd hand purchase coming on....
16. i'm lame, only two - vr speedlines and vento cups. credit to wheel whores, i'll never have the energy for the chopping and changing!
17. Looking great, black hole is superb stuff! Just started using it on my new paint, delivers some shine. Only used it with collinite, may try that purple haze stuff soon.
18. Wouldnt have made any difference, he seemed pretty keen to cover his nuts with them no matter the condition  If it helps the OP, then seeing him stood in my skids was my queue to leave.
19. I wish this sort of technology was around when I suspected my flatmate of wearing my pants, rather than actually having to confront him whilst wearing them lol
20. 1 that's too high 2 again no not normal too high 3 are the hot vents directed there? 4 no the bearing is internal, only caps on the rear Get reading the definitive vr6 cooling thread for solutions and preventative measures!
21. aide

What is this?

The window mech rollers only half solve the rattle, a new window slot seal helps as well
22. keep it, you only need the garage for the clutch as you don't want to do it, a friendly local mechanic could push out/ push in the front bearings for you. drop links, arb bushes and gaitor are easy if you're prepared to redo/ blead brakes. take your time with it, if its been four years you're in no rush.
