  1. Thanks, I'll try the local VW dealer and see if they have parts or can get them. The body shop I'm talking to contacted their supplier, but they could get any. 18 months is not that long ago, so hopefully... Also how do you figure out if VW classic/heritage has parts? I'll get some picks up but TBH it's quite hard to see as the screen is still in place.
  2. Thanks for that. How recently did you have them done?
  3. I've a cracked windscreen. Prior to getting it changed I had a look at the condition of the body round the screen behind the seal. The NS A-pillar looks good, there's a bit of rust (NS and OS) where the roof channels meet the screen, qbut the OS A-pillar has some nasty rust including a couple of holes right through. The exposed outer is OK and inside behind the A-pillar trim is good too. I'm sure this won't be the first time this has happened. So I'm looking for some advice on how to repair it. I'm looking at it being repaired by a bodyshop as I realise it will need some welding. Can you get any replacement panels? Is it straightforward to cut out the rusted parts, cut some new steel and weld it in? I'm thinking of repairing even although it will cost a lot compared to the value of the car, but it's probably less than the depreciation on a new car. Any comments or advice received.
  4. Thanks for the feedback, guys. That'll be a new screen then. I've had a lppk and there isn't any evidence of an impact, so possible frost. Not sure if it's the original screen, but it's been in for the 2 years I've had the car. A good chance to get the leak at the top of the screen sorted at the same time. D
  5. Came back to the car the other day and found a crack in the windscreen running from the top near side corner of the screen towards the middle of the screen - about 4 inches/100mm long. It's on the outside of the laminate, can't feel the crack on the inside of the screen. Am pretty sure it wasn't there when I parked it and I doubt it would have been 'attacked' given where it was. Anyone else ever found that happen? Clearly need to change the screen, but just checking in case this is a sign of something else being wrong. Also I suppose the windscreen repairs don't deal with this type of crack. Any thoughts? D
  6. I had a set of Holefrauds-style aero wipers on the car before I moved to the Lupo set up. Previous owner hadn't got round to fitting them and had left them in the boot when I picked up the car. They worked fine, but I had to do the above mod with them too. Probably why the previous owner hadn't fitted them. I only changed to Lupo when one of the arms broke...
  7. Hi I'm not sure if this is picked up in the wiki but the reason that the blades don't touch the screen is that the arms are sitting on the stops at the hinge point. If you lift up the arm and look at where the spring attaches, you will see 2 bumps, one either side of where the spring is located. You need to file these down so that the arm can move closer to the screen. I had to do this and only knew because someone else asked the question in a thread somewhere on here. Hope that is clear enough and not too vague D
  8. I can see us dropping our landline once 4G is up and running properly. Get a 4G dongle and run a wifi route off it even TV and broadband.
  9. HI - late entry to this thread. We use Telephone Preference Service. All you have to do is register your number and (somehow) that gets back to businesses to tell them not to call you. If someone does get through, you can just say that you have signed up to Telephone Preference Service, and they usually immediately end the call - that'll be because there is a complaints procedure. Even if you are not signed up you can tell them you are and they disappear sharpish. What you have to be careful about is companies you have signed up to and which boxes you've ticked. I was getting calls from British Gas frequesntly asking me to switch to them, and each time I'd tell them to stop calling me. Eventually got someone who checked and on my gas boiler maintenance contract I had ticked the 'you can contact me by phone' box. I got that unticked and they don't call me anymore. http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html They say... The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service. It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.
  10. Other than Lupo wipers, uprated headlamp wiring, reconditioned ABS unit... I think that my favourite is putting a 'Halfords' flat blade/Lupo wiper on the rear. a better wipe and better looking. But best of all was free as the wiper was sitting in the boot when I bought the car.
  11. Green C on Telford Road Edinburgh pasing McDs. Xxxx ECK I think. Just caught a glimpse
  12. MOT and service. £189. MOT straight through no probs. Done 5000 miles since last MOT. At the last MOT had to have new rear shocks and sinfe then have only rebuilt the rear spoiler and put a new connector on the speedo sensor cable (thanks Easypops). Not bad for a years motoring.

    BBS wheels

Try Easypops. He had a set of 4 recently powder coated RS771s with tyres. Really nice with polished rims.
  14. Blue Aqua Jxxx ODU. Stoneywood Road, Dyce, Aberdeen Tuesday 28th 14.25. Looked nice
  15. Spotted a Green Storm Mx FRX in Broughty Ferry East of Dundee on Brooke Street. Lowered on body colour centre Solitudes. I thought it was green, but the pic I took looks blue in the rear half D
  16. Cheers for that. I may come over after the Grand Prix - will drop you a text before a move. Will you be watching the tennis? Should I wait till after then?
  17. Hi Looking for a quick bit of help here. Last night was driving along and the speedo stopped working. Today went to check it out as I know there is a bodge connection in the wiring at the speed sensor on the gearbox. At some point someone has had to do a mod where they have put bullet connectors onto the wiring side and jammed these into the back of the 3 pin connector. This has worked up till now although they occasionally have worked loose and had to be pushed back in. They have usually come loose after driving on some poor road surfaces. So today i assumed that this would be the same and would just need to be 'pushed home' again. When i opened the bonnet to disconnect the connector at the speed sensor I found that the wires were all out of the connector. I have tried putting them back in but no joy. I am now beginning to wonder whether I have got them in the correct positions since they had all come out. There are three wires - black, a white/blue and a brown/green. Could some one tell me on their car what order they are on the plug? I think that the white goes in the middle and looking into the connector with the 2 grooves for the sensor at the top of the connector black is on the left and the brown on the right. Is this correct? Could someone have at look at theirs and post a picture? Thanks in advance D
  18. Not quite today or yesterday even, but last weekend service the spoiler and its lifting and lowering smoothly once more - thanks to Dragon Green for pointing put the how to
  19. Brilliant - followed instructions and I have a happy spoiler again... The motor was dirty and the grease for one of the 'raising rods' had some corrosion showing as though the inside of the tube had rusted. Plenty grease and all back together. Thanks again
  20. Mine is N757 YMO - Moonlight Blue unmolested VR6. Spent most of its life in England between the south coast and Birmingham - now in Scotland for the last 16 months. Been looked after, so previouis owners needn't be embarrassed.

    Car Wax?

I'm using Angel Wax that came with Octane magazine. Nice polish that seems to be lasting through several washes and rubbish weather. Says it can last 6 months on the tin - also says do not eat. It does smell like something you would want to spread on a nice scone and looks like butter.
