1. Had some time off this week so I thought I'd dig out the bargain Shrick VGI I bought and dismantle it, checking over before fitting. I bought this VGI on eBay advertised as incomplete. But the VGI itself seems to be spot on, no bits missing. I've managed to buy an RPM controller, solenoid and vac reservoir, so all ready to go. As it was when I got it out of the box (original Shrick box) and dismantled. Then I went on to degrease it, clean and paint it. Then I sanded and polished the SHRICK text to a polished finish. Just waiting for some gaskets and then I should be ready to fit.
2. I had a problem in that the wiring on one side had been messed with by someone in the past who had fitted a new wing. The wire was chaffing on the bodywork and when I removed the bulb and replaced, it was resting in just the right place to short out. You'd have to remove your arch liner to check.
3. Awesome project mate! You are doing a great job with this and obviously have some bottle :)
4. Been wondering if I could get away with swapping mine over for yours without the Mrs noticing, stick my private plate on and she'd never know :) just nee to work out WTF I'd do with mine!
5. Thanks chaps, she's ok for a 144k car ;) should have some time to get back on the case with it now the charity rally is done. Need to get the VGI powder coated and running, got a BMC sorted, just need to fix my sunroof at it broke at Stanford hall :(
6. Sailed the MOT today, tester said it was a credit too me. Also let me have a good look underneath while on the ramps for corrosion and he was saying it is mint, no rot.......awesome!
7. BMW 728i "Individual" massive spec and very unique! BMW 728i "Individual" special order 2.8 190bhp engine (good economy for a 7 series) with M sport electric grey leather memory seats, multifunction M sport wheel, 18" Style 32 wheels, Tow bar, dual zone climate, 6 CD changer, Cruise Control, M- sport suspension, Auto box also has sport and sequential manual mode, Brembo brakes. Was over 40K new and everything still works. 158K on the clock and 5 months Tax, 2 months MOT. Will need a windscreen (cracked in the corner) and maybe control arm bushes for next MOT, I know as I've already fixed all the other advisories from the last MOT (3000 miles ago) I bought this car to do a charity rally, 2000 miles to Le Mans and back (Twin Town Challenge) and we've spent a good bit of time and money on it with a full respray in satin Military paint, and refurbed the wheels in Black. It has had a new thermostat housing, water pump, belts, front disks/pads, rear brake lines, brake fluid, Fuel lines, rocker cover gasket, full service inc plugs and a lot of general tidying. It drove the 2000 miles last weekend without a hitch and has plenty of life left. Wheels and interior alone are worth more than 500 but I have no time to mess about getting this car moved on. I am located in Newcastle upon tyne. 600 firm and the money will go to the charity, Special effect. List Date: 5/28/2014 Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom For more info, click here to view the original listing: BMW 728i "Individual" massive spec and very unique! -------------------------------------- SOLD -------------------------------------- Mobile friendly version: BMW 728i "Individual" massive spec and very unique! 8. I totally second what Nick is saying. I went Vortech charger and it wasn't nice to drive, all power under 4k rpm was flat, then a quick peak at top end and it's over. Went back to standard as it felt much better to drive. Dot waste your money, for 2k you could just sell the C, put that towards the pot and buy a faster car....or save up and go Turbo.
9. Need them gone folks, been too busy with work to sort out selling them. Make me a reasonable offer someone :)
10. BIG BLOG UPDATE Car is 99% finished and ready to be judged by Jeremy Clarkson today! Check out are blog for more pics http://atomhawk.wordpress.com
11. Too much chaff on eBay, advertised as mint but far from it. eBay is great to "roll of the dice" bargain bangers. Like the 728i I bought for £500! (Tax and MOT!) Good stuff tends to be on owners clubs but prices are firm as most people know when they have a good one. Auto trader is good for those hidden gems, husband dies and minute left in the garage for 10 years gets put on there by the wife or a friend :)
12. I'd be a little wary about the outer door window scraper seals. They are almost impossible to get off without damage and if you try to paint around them, you can't lift them enough and inevitably get paint shrinkage that leaves a line at the top. The seals are about £50 each from vow classic and I would remove the originals before paint and put new ones on. Rear quarters should be ok, last respray I had on the C, we left them is and lifted the edges, worked fine. Same for the windscreen. Rear hatch seal may be tight to lift, only a couple of mm on it. I would also remove the bumpers before hand to see hoe much rust, if any, you have under them as some of the other C owners found some horrors under there. Luckily mine was good. Looking forward to seeing the pics :)
13. Yeah, that looks to be about the same as mine too. Best balance of low but not too crashy
14. Hmm was about to fit one to mine too but having second thoughts now :) notice any performance gain?
15. Not a bad deal at all mate! £1500 seems a little too cheap for the respray though? is that full glass out? normally for a decent glass out job you are looking at £2000-2500
16. Not had much time to look but pm me a price and I'll let you know if its in budget. Cheers Ron
17. I've pm'ed John saying ill take them but no reply yet.
18. Afraid we ran out of time for lowering it. Although it has the standard BMW "sport" suspension and so is lower than the average 7 series.
19. Blog updated again and features my innovative new way to remove paint from alloy wheels in prep for a DIY refurb :) http://atomhawk.wordpress.com
